Yes, it's the only version with a 50hz option, which is necessary for the Kalebo III shortcut. I don't think there is ANY speed difference between 50hz and 60hz on the PS2.
This is a practice run, if that changes things at all.
HalfMillenium, is there anyway you can record a short video of the first level or something? That would give us something to compare with RJwaters... and it would give us another video to see... maybe a sample of your TELT/RYNO action...
Due to DVD lag with my current set-up (I'll be able to remove it from the finished run), we'd need something where we'd both be taking identical routes to compare it.
I was thinking on the second ship (not including the tanker ship) in Drek's Fleet, starting from being teleported to the ship and walking forward until Ratchet hits the first laser (having taken out all the enemies first). If RJ does the same, they can be accurately compared and we could time it from when Ratchet starts moving to when hhe hits the first laser. Does that seem reasonable?
I've got a better solution (for your challenge mode run, anyways). You've got all weapons, so use the visibomb gun to skip all of Kalebo III, :p :p :p That eliminates the need for 50hz.
The simplest way to compare the two would be to do a fixed action like emptying a weapon or do a high jump and float straight down and land. Things like that should tell us if there is a Hz difference.
Granted comparing two routes is a more direct way to see if movement is the same, but if it's truly the same game frame for frame, just the frames are being shown at a different rate, then any fixed action (like jumping or emptying a weapon) would indicate the 60/50 time lag. I would say just time a cutscene, but I've heard of cutscenes being the same between NTSC and PAL even if the game is different, so we can't count on that.

I'm not sure how that's done, and it might have been fixed on the PAL version. So that I can check, how is it executed?
Using 60hz would also prevent me from using the Batalia vent shortcut, which as far as I can see is impossible on 60hz.
I am almost certain that there is no speed difference betwen 50hz and 60hz in terms of overall speed. Most PS2 games run at 50hz and I can nearly match some of the 60hz NTSC runs on them using 50hz (Metal Gear Solid 2 for example).
Segment 10 done, finally. Way harder than I remembered.
Segments 11 and 13 are quite easy, but 12, 14, and 15 are some of the hardest in the run. (I've cut the run to 16 segments, methinks, depending on my patience)
As it turns out (due to a complete error on my part, sorry) I will NOT get 1:03 on Drek's Fleet. Sorry if I got hopes up.
I did the vent skip on 60hz once. Just shoot the visibomb gun into the button on the other side of the forcefield that separates you and the race guy.
I'm guessing that involves standing right in front of the lasers and launching from there so it passes through them or something, because unless there's a gap I don't know about, that would be impossible due to the doors into that area being closed until you defeat everything in the arena before them.
What's your new expected time on Drek's Fleet if you have one?
No, you control the visibomb over the lasers and explode so the radius activates the button.
I don't have one at this time. But I've decided (since all of the bolts post-Gemlik aren't going to anything really, aside from a 2000 bolt infobot) to buy the decoy glove for the Drek battle. With the decoys, I can stand still and constantly shoot with the blaster or devastator (if I'm out of ammo of the other) when Drek goes into his blue beam of energy shots.
Depending on when you acquire the decoy glove, there may still be a shortcut or two available to you using the glove... let me know when you plan to get it and I'll start looking .... I did some extensive glitching / sequence breaking with the decoy glove last summer.
I'd be willing to use them, especially in a run which uses saves so often.
Another speedrun idea. What about hoverboard races? I'm pretty good at them and if anyone's interested, I'll have a go. My best time on the Blackwater City track is about 1:32:9X, I'm not sure what my best time on the Gadgetron Site track is.
With decoys, you might be able to skip the following (just off the top of my head, and not tested)
~Destroying the sand sharks ~Trespasser (maybe!!) ~If the two above, then you won't have to buy from plumber ~Eudora mission for Infobot (just go through door) ~Exploding the BTS ship (just go through wall to infobot and savewarp out) ~Escorting the Pokitaru guy (just clip through for thruster pack, clip out, thrust open fighter jet door) ~A lot of stuff on Gemlik Base ~Giant Clank battle on Quartu ~Never go to Kalebo III or get its infobot ~no need for hologuise, clip through all robot's forcefields ~Fighter ship battle on Drek's fleet
Think that's about it, if it's possible for those.
I don't have time for a detailed reply, but I can definitely say that not all of those will be possible - it's not a universal ability to go through walls. If you want to know about some of what I found before I can make a better reply, just look back in this topic to where me and Tenfold were going back and forth... You'll know I found something if the post is really long
If it's quicker, I suppose you could skip the Hydrodisplacer and take the route through Blackwater City as if you were going to the hoverboard race then clip to Captain Qwark.
On the subject of hoverboards, would anyone be interested if I were to submit hoverboard race videos?
If you could use the decoy glove to clip through the wall Giant Clank knocks down without dying from the ~20 Commandos and 5 Dropships, which has no chance.
My first uses for Decoy Glove... - Discussion of possible sequence breaks (many of the same that were just mentioned above, though limited to forcefields) - Kalebo III forcefields - Glitched through a thick wall on Aridia to prove it's possible
Hoven shortcut over to Hydropack Upgrade - Glitch through a wall, then float toward the part of the map with the hydropack and pop into one of the rooms - useless for any% unless the route changed to require a lot of swimming (maybe worthwhile for new game+ since many glitches involve "secret" pools)
Edit: This list came together over the course of a few hours, so sorry if it changed or grew without notice... I'm going to bed now - I've read all the posts up to where newmansage began posting his progress, which is where my usefulness began dwindling I think...

You could with the TELT. Assuming you can land safely and get throguh the wall, you could do that.
