I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

I'm planning on making a speedrun for Ratchet & Clank. In this speedrun I'll start out with a all the health upgrades and golden weapons. I might eventually do the other 2 and the 4th one which is coming out this november. I won't start from scratch because it'll be too much of a challenge of gathering enough bolts (aka money in the game) because I'll have to spend it on weapons in addation to stuff you have to purchase to progress through the game.

I'll give more info about this within the coming days including the goal time.

Oh and by the way would you rather have me leave the cutsceans in since this is a really good and funny game. Would it be accepted Radix? Or should I just leave'em out?

The cutscenes will count against your time. Unless there is an in game timer displayed at the end of the game, which takes away the time spent on cutscenes.

Oh, yeah. I vote for skipping cutscenes to as it saves time on the clock.

Although I would enjoy it more if they were in, It's probably best to leave them out. Unless you want them to count against you ^^

Would it be possible to put this if my speedrun is posted on the main site? Speedrun includes cutsceans but is 2:00h without them and 2:30 with them. I want to put cutsceans in my walkthrough to make it more entertaining but as long as they don't count towards my time. Would that be possible?

The run has been going well so far (just praticing). I got to Blackwater City with all missions complete, in 36min Grin

I screwed up several times and did a task I wasn't suppose to (getting the Suck Cannon), so when I fix that it should narrow it down to 25-30min. I'm aiming for a run that's 2:00-2:30 (without cutsceans). But I'm still not sure if their going to be kept out or left in. :-/

Yeah I'm sure he would take it but it'll count towards my time. Anyways I got a time of 3:20; I gonna pratice again and again to get a better time and then record it within a week or two. I'll take the cutsceans out, but if I were to to another speedrun (same game) and leave the cutsceans in would you accept it?

Oh one more thing I have two VCR's and would like to make a copy of it. Does anyone know of a guide that can help me there?

I doubt it very much. Just forget about the cutscenes if they can be skipped. After all, this is supposed to be a site for speed runs, not plot runs. Adding a new seperate catagory for such things would pretty much be rediculous.

2 Hour Any %, No movies
2 Hour 30 minutes, Any %, Movies
4 Hour 100%, No movies
4 Hour 30 Minutes, 100%, with movies.
2 Hour 15 minutes Lowest %, No movies
2 Hour, 45 minutes Lowest %, Movies....

You get the drift.

-Almost- all of the cutscenes in Ratchet and Clank are mandatory, unfortunately. When I tried to run this (lent it to a friend when I started finals, haven't gotten it back yet... *sigh*) I got really frustrated with that whole thing, since redoing segments meant having to watch the same bleedin' cutscenes again, and again, and again...

The only cutscenes I saw that were skippable were the ones at the very beginning, which I almost figure might be able to be included as a seperate (optional) segment, just like the "ending sequence" segments offered for some games.

Unless, of course, someone figures out a trick for skipping the scenes... I know in FFIX, you can eject the CD and pop it back in to skip FMVs even if you're not supposed to, but Ratchet and Clank uses all in-game engine...

EDIT: You know, three of us were working on runs of this... we might want to share information about routes and bolt management and such to help each other out. I want to see the best dang run possible on this site.

~~Sry for the double postage but~~ are you doing this single segment? All in all its a good idea for a run and i might try to runthrough one myself. The normal run i went through just wasn't a speed run bcus of all the bolt grabbing. I'm not trying to steal a run from you so if your doing single segment i could dso segmented or the other way around.

All Cutsceans and in-game movies are skippable. Just press Start and when your ship lands just press X to avoid the landing sequence sceane. Maybe you have to be in challenge mode for it to work :-/

For sure this run will be around the 2hour mark but getting it under will be a bit of a challenge, and like I said before all cutsceans and in-game movies will be out because it counts against my time; and yes it'll be a single-segment. I'll start taping the run next week Grin

Most likely after this I start praticing for Ratchet and Clank 2 then 3. If I do 2 and 3 I'll most likely do Ratchet & Clank: Deadlocked which is coming out in November but don't expect to see the run until the new year because I won't get it till christmas Wink

You can skip the landing and taking off, yes, but those aren't really cutscenes as they convey no story.

I mean, when you get a Vid-Bot, for example... you can't skip watching the vid. Also things like talking to the plumber, conversing with the mayor, etc.

X is to avoid the landing sequence
Start is to skip all cutsceans and in-game movies. (Might not work the first time you play it. Might have to beat the game then it'll work ;))

I'm going to start a single segmented 'normal' mode run to send in. Unless you guys don't want me stepping on any of your toes. If the latter is the case, I would be glad to help out with timesavers and such as I had found quite a few when I was running Challenge mode (2hr 16-20 mins; forgot how much exactly).

Don't worry about stepping on toes. When I get my disk back, it'll be a race. Competition is good. As long as we share information.

It's not good. Just think about it sending in a video just to get it posted on the site first. But what happens if someone else sends in a better video first. All that work for nothing. We should wait for the video's to come in and then start working, seeing if we can beat that record and tape it our bettered speedrun version of it. Wink

That'll be great but be prepared to take a lot of notes of which boxes to break, in order to purchase the right weapons and the necessary items to progress through the game.
2hr 16-20 mins I've been able to squeeze it down to under 2hr.

My run should be 1:50; 1:45 at least and 1:55 at max. I should start taping it on Sunday (this week) and have it mailed by Monday. Expect one soon Wink

Glad to know everyone here is down for some friendly competition. That 2hr 16min run was for challenge mode (good job on sub 2hrs, btw). I've been working on a normal mode run for a few days now. I've got pages and pages of notes and re-recorded VHS tape already and I don't plan to be done for another few weeks or so.

are you talking about ratchet and clank(as in the series) or just the first game. If you are thinking of doing going commando I say don't buy any weapons except for a couple of your favorites because later you need a certain amount of bolts to access some areas(like for an objective to go to the next planet you need 10,000 bolts). i've beaten the game in less than 5 hours(game time) where all I did was use the lancer, the wrench and the gravity bomb(plus their upgrades).

If I do Ratchet and Clank 2 and 3 I'll first do it in challenge mode, but first I have to do Ratchet and Clank and get my VCR setup

You should do a speedrun on it; but try to do it in 3-4hours (if possible). That'll be a really good run Smiley
