give me your eyes!!!
Oooooh I need to get that game.

Yet another miserable failure, this time I couldn't even see the bosses health. Maybe I'll do it when I'm more alert at, say, 3 in the morning...

Blingo!

2nd segment done, with a shortcut I just found (the only one I've found in the game).
35 minutes on the in game clock.

This brings me to a question: since the in game clock only records to the nearest minute some manual timing will have to be done at some point. Now should this include all the 'spaceship' loading sequences or not. I guess if they were then it would give a penalty to having more segments, but what do others think?

This segment kicks lots n' lots of ass, im very happy  Grin

Edit: on a side, I reckon these segments will get smaller as I progress. Just getting through the later levels is an achievement, nevermind doing several in a row or even not dying repeatedly beforehand. These will be compensated by some original tactics though Wink

Alrighty!! This topic falls ever behind but I'm almost done with it.

R&C3
Segment 3, about 17 mins, from zeldrin starport to the 'Assassination' mission on Aridia. Lots of flying through levels and dodging with 2 decent arcade levels.

Segment 4, over 30mins, Aridia to the final boss. Even more dodgong and weaving in an excutiatingly hard segment performed well nevertheless.

Now I simply need to try many many times to defeat the boss and this run is wrapped up! I was aiming for sub-3 hour but it might just be sub-2h30mis, though I'll have to manual time it which will add some.

Any progress with R&C1?????
MGS for PS1 forever.
I'm looking forward to any R&C 1 run because the game was so hard. Right now I'm saved at the final boss. I still can't beat him.
give me your eyes!!!
R&C 2&3 (done quick at least) are far far harder because of the rpg element. my health is excrutiating low, i have very little money and few weapons which is why the last boss will take so long...

R&C1 just needs some good tactics and a bit of luck for the boss, but the rest of the game can almost entirely be beaten with the wrench Tongue
PwNzRd!
The final boss is a pain, if you don't have the RYNO, but I have beat him without it. R&C goes on my list for one of the best PS2 games out there. And the story rocked. The sequels are good too, but as said, the RPG element of them makes them a bear to speedrun.
give me your eyes!!!
I can concur to that, the final boss is inhumanly difficult (well he is a robot), and I use up all ammo getting past the first stage. This is gonna take some practice...
Any advanced tactics will be greatly appreciated.

btw, my segment 4 was actually closer to 25mins.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I find it very odd that people find the last boss of Ratchet and Clank to be hard... I beat him on my second try, without the RYNOC.  In particular, I recall that grinding on the outside rail in the last part makes you practically invulnerable, even as you're pumping away the boss's health with the Tesla Coil or any inferior weapon.
give me your eyes!!!
Ummm, this boss is really giving me grief, mainly because my shock blaster and nitro launcher deal small amounts of damage and the power of anything else is negligible (not much money arggghh!! >:()

However, I have discovered new things and ways to bypass previously difficult areas with relative ease, so I might do a new run incorporating these and get me a flux rifle, hopefully ending up with fewer segments to boot.

I should, Should!, be able to defeat him with them all at level 5 Grin
im rly sorry guys im just a lazyass and am caught up with we love katamari  Grin but someday this run'll be finished. For all you people besides cannibal remember mine is a challenge mode 100% run so i might have to do a normal run after this one so it'll be accepted. I'll get to it eventually...
PwNzRd!
Use the blaster/tesla coil/devastator/anything you can get your hands on and ride the outside rail at the final part. And don't forget about that damn red button.
all i hAve to do is use the RYNO  Tongue takes like 20 sec. But the speed element of the run is still hard. When i do a normal run things will be much more difficult. For one I'll have hardly any weapons because of how long it takes to get bolts in the first one.
give me your eyes!!!
Don't remind me, that fact plagues my dreams o0Oo0O...

I think the 2 segment thing is back on track!! My new tactics and skills are invaluable and could lead to the ultimate R&C3 speedrun. I'll try tomorrow morning but if I fail it'll be a while before I can try again Tongue

There are two parts in the entire game that rely mostly on luck, but if i screw up I won't lose that much time in dying. If I die as is very likely on the last level I'll be so pissed off it'll hurt; it starts all the way at the freaking beginning each time!!!
XXY
The commercials for Ratchet and Clank were awesome. Just thought I'd state that for no apparent reason. I liked this game when I played it briefly awhile ago. What do you expect the final time to look like? Grin
give me your eyes!!!
Hmmm, well I've been playing around with my 2 segment run but I didn't have enough time and I'm going away this weekend.

It requires a lot of bolt hoarding, but time will be saved overall and it should go no higher than 2:45 but no lower than 2:30 unless its extremely good.

The main problem is having to familiarise myself with the beginning of the game again and without the charge boots, but I'll have lots of opportunities next week Grin
i have no frickin clue what my time will be but im going for as close to perfection as possible  Grin I also plan to work on it this weekend so yeah that's all
In the words of Homestarrunner AWIGHT!  Grin ok I finished my second segment of Aridia and Eudora. It took me like 9:05 or something with a total time of 24 minutes. I probably could've done this segment better but i already erased my earlier saved games so oh well. Its not bad though just has a slow ending of Eudora section with a couple of mistakes as well as it takes me awhile to shoot any 10 logging equipment thingies for the skill point. If it were to be improved i could maybe knock off a half a minute to a minute not much more. Anyways my next segment will be difficult because Bts-the next world is my least favorite, and after it is an extremely long one including the first race, twice. Also remember that these still have the stupid ship flying through space things to cut out of it. I'll keep you updated  Wink

-Some of the weapons I could see getting significant use in a speedrun without specific application are: the Shock Blaster (fast fire rate for when you get it; might only be a short-term weapon though), the Flux Rifle (sheer power), and the Plasma Whip (for when those enemies just swarm; if you're just going between spots, whip once and go).

'Scuse me, don't mind me, coming in REALLY late in the run here for no reason other than just putting in my two cents.  Plasma Whip overall is fairly useless because the small enemies are generally easy to avoid, though it was a huge benefit in the Courtney Gears fight, the Shock Blaster gets pretty useless a little while before the Movie Lot stage (It has a nice knockback though which interrupts enemy attacks, so I'd recommend usin' it for speed running purposes since ammo is cheap).  Otherwise, nothing really strikes my fancy because the weapons in this game are so damned expensive!  The Disk Launcher is nice though...

So, Cannibal, you're not going to get ANY weapon at all?  Because despite what others seem to say about it, I'm a huge fan of the Suck Cannon.  It's a one hit kill for the smaller enemies who just charge you in droves regardless, it levels up fairly fast, doesn't require bolts for ammo, and it does very good damage at V5.  Of course, it's a somewhat situational weapon, but it's pretty devestating.  It's immensely useful in the level preceeding the Courtney Gears fight, in Metropolis, the second battle in Blackwater City when the tiny tyrranoids charge the bridge, lots of areas.

No, all I'm going to get is the flux rifle, and upgrade them all to v5. The only part of the game where it is difficult to kill an enemy is the final boss, so I need to inflict as much damage as possible on him.
I can't waste any more money on weapons since the armour upgrades are absolutely necessary, though I skip the first one.

The Adamantine armour costs 250,000 which I only just have by that stage, and if I don't get it then the final couple of levels have 1-hit kills Sad

My original idea of getting two smaller weapons for less didn't work as they were useless against Nefarious, so that means I do a bit more bolt-collecting this time round.

What really pisses me off is that the PDA would solve most of my problems, but it costs 250,000 and getting that instead of the armour upgrade is not an option.

Anyhow if I find Nefarious relatively easy with this setup then it could be single-segment.

I already know where to get most of the bolts and the others can be collected from the arcade games since each token gives you 100 and minor-deviations will give 1000 each, nice!

Edit: sorry I missed one of your comments. The suck cannon is pointless since I completely ignore almost all of the little enemies and it cannot be used against Nefarious due to lack of ammo. Leave it to me and all will be well! (though unfortunately there's no way to make the hacking puzzles any less boring :P)
Don't mind me, just asking for a status update on the Ratchet and Clank 1 run.
PwNzRd!
I have heard of nothing coming from this lately. I have been playing it a lot, and if worse comes to worse I could probably run it, but I would prefer someone else.
I was thinking of giving this a go myself.  It isn't a very difficult game sans the final boss, but these guys made it sound like they found some very serious shortcuts here.

I've been planning a New Game+ segmented or SS, i don't know. It would mainly consist of me blowing everything up with the RYNO. After writing down goal times for each level, my estimated time should be about 1:35, however, I forgot about how there are 2 parts to Orxon. So more like 1:40. Also, I'm not sure how realistic some of my goal times are. It should be at the very most 1:50-2 hour range. I've gotten 2:01 at the beggining of Veldin before. Here are some of my times.
Ratchets Home: 0:01
Novalis: 0:02
Kerwan:0:05
Aridia: 0:04
Eudora: 0:01
Oltanis: 0:03
Gaspar: 0:01
Rilgar: 0:07
Blarg Station: 0:06 (I think that's what it was)
Final save at Veldin for my practice run is 1:31, this should only beimprovable by maybe 5 or  6 minutes at the absolute most. the only weapon I use besides the RYNO is the Gold Tesla Claw to kill the fishies that hop on your ship on Pokitaru. I'm thinking about doing almost every kind of run for this game, but i don't know. For a regular game its too hard to get bolts, whereas in the new game+ i have over 200,000 to start.
give me your eyes!!!
I figured a new game+ wasn't allowed, and the whole RYNO useage may (will) get monotonous.

Still I'd certainly watch it, and R&C3 should be up shortly to see you through this.

Fr1g1d was doing the run but gave up for some reason...

It'd be allowed once a new game run has been performed.  I intend to do just that if I get started.  Playing through the game, I've been able to do quite admirably with using only the Walloper and the Devestator for my long range needs.  The run will definitely be segmented.  I need to go and beat the last boss and see what's possible though.  I'll probably have to pick up the Gadgetron P.D.A. though to pull it off, but everything else in the run will just end up scouring the planet for infobots and... whatever else is necessary to complete the game, ignoring most everything else.
