While it's sad to hear you're dropping this, I'm glad you put the effort into it that you did. Much respect for not dropping the run earlier, with all the annoying things it throws at you (total luck with enemy dodging being the biggest offender). As for verification, you never know until you try right? Smiley

By the way, it's kind of funny how I just played around with the game last night. Nitrodon was curious about some route split mission stuff (and I was curious about Adina/Elena/Lulu), so I downloaded his save and messed with it. The problem was, his team was FAR too weak to handle Cepheid and I didn't feel like grinding. Oops.

Good luck on your next project. o/

Hello everyone. I am fairly new to the speedrunning community. I recently went insane and came about the idea to do a 100% run of this game. I haven't done much planning yet, but I will most definitely get some work done on this very soon, and hopefully I will be able to produce a decent run at some point.

A question: Am I allowed to start a new game plus?
I have been known to suffer from that particular form of insanity myself at various points.  Good luck.

As for your question, I doubt that you'd be allowed to start the run from a new game plus.  However, you will be required to start a new game plus in the middle of the run, in order to recruit all characters from both routes.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I believe if you were to start a NG+ it'd be a different category and not earn the bounty if that is actually still payable, in case you were wondering.

OK, that's what I thought. Thanks.

Does anyone know how exactly Anastasia's payment for the crocogator mission is determined? Is it when you start the file, or when you give it to her, etc.
新世紀進歩的羽扇子 音楽
I tested it a long time ago. My guess was that it's determined when you make the file, since I wasn't able to find any way to affect it (I got the 100g on my run, and just took it since any% runs don't need the 10k), but I admit I don't remember what all I tried anymore.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Wish I could help. Someone on a forum said it's determined either at the beginning of the mission or when you get the item from the crocogator since they saved before starting it and played through many times before getting 10,000. I should play this game...
I see. I'll have to look into it, as 10,000 dagols would save a lot of time as far as I can see at this point. Still working on a basic skeleton for the route though, this is some crazy shit to plan.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Probably going to be even crazier to run.
It is indeed crazy to plan.  If you need any information or other help, I'm a bit crazy myself and tested a few things, so I'd probably be able to help.

Also, if you find a route that doesn't require an obscene amount of waiting time to recruit Claudia, I'll be very impressed.

Yeah, she along with a few others are difficult to fit into a streamlined route >_>
Yo, sorry for the double post, but this would be timed with game time, correct?
Waiting hurts my soul...
My best guess is yes, the game time will be used as much as possible unless it drops seconds when you save. Check this my saving, loading, then saving 10 seconds later, and repeating. If the timer never ticks to the next minutes, then the game timer is unreliable for a segmented run.
Given that the in-game timer includes seconds, I don't think such a test is needed.
I tested it just to be sure, and the timer does not drop seconds. Almost definitely doing segmented either way, it's pretty obvious already that there is too much luck involved in some later parts.
OK, I've pretty much finished figuring out everything before the crocogator, and it's looking good so far. I really have no idea what an estimate will be for this right now, but the more I work on it the better I should see hopefully.
Does anyone know if Jarvis will allow you to wander off to other areas such as Tria Village and Forest Metropolis while you're doing the crocogator mission? I remember being able to one time through the game, but I've heard that you can't. I can check for myself, it would just require me to start a new file <_<

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I am curious if there is anyone around that knows anything about the original run. I've come up with my own route for human story that I've done a few times, but I have some questions about the original run that might improve my time of 5:36.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Spineshark and Molotov are both still active. If you don't get an answer by the end of the weekend, then you can always PM them. Depending on their settings, it might reach them faster than posting here.
Honestly, I think Spineshark is the only person who could really say much about the route. All I ever really did was just point out maps with kickable rocks and ramble about commands (Earthquake and stuff). I know there was a trick to dodging enemies on the dwarf escort mission, but the overall route is not my area at all.

You might want to check Ogu_dai's old RTA reports though. I think they are still linked somewhere in this topic, but you'll probably need to use the Wayback Machine to view them.

Thanks for the reply guys. There are a lot of little things I overlooked when I was planning my route that I kind of picked up from reading this topic that should actually shave off a lot of time. I'll be running the game a lot of times over the next few weeks and I'm looking to hopefully be able to beat the old Japanese time. The only real big thing at this point that I need to work on is how to speed up the final boss. If some of my new ideas don't work and Spineshark doesn't reply here, I'll work towards asking him about some of the things he tried out.

I also happen to own both the US and Japanese version of the game. So if I'm able to get a really good time on the US version, I might start working towards doing it on the JP version. Routing this game has been extremely fun for me and I've actually spent since July working on it.  I'm not completely sure what all is involved in the human story route that is talked about in this topic, but I'm pretty confident that if I can speed up some of the earlier bosses, as well as the final boss, that I can cut down to closer to the 5:14 that was mentioned earlier in the topic.

Anyways, thanks again for the reply. I mostly just wanted to see who my options are for information.

ogu_dai's stuff was on Geocities, so yeah, it's gone. He was doing RTA (which I assume was SS because he wasn't losing enough time to be reloading as far as I can tell) so there's a fair amount of ways to improve over it. Read that for triggers, a lot of the strategies are still effective too.

My run was total garbage and I'm absolutely certain that sub-5 fairy is possible even by game clock (which would be counted when you save a clear file after the credits) which is about half an hour longer than human. I have almost no familiarity with the latter though, only played it once for recruitments and I don't know anything about the triggers and strategies.

First things first, I'm pretty sure at this point (although I've had a hard time completely confirming it) that the prize for Anastasia's mission is based on some RNG that happens when you start the game. This means if you want the 10k (and I think you should?) you need to start game, do the first segment, then play up to that part to find out how much money you got. If it's the right result I think you should be good to go. Sucks but it'll help a lot.

The other source of early game money is the Leprechaun, which is in a chest when you're in the sewers. Beeline that and sell it. Then buy the biggest sword you can. The damage is still terrible but you need everything you can get.

There's very few places where enemies can't be avoided. Buying Flee Balls is probably still a good idea (there's one on the map that you should get as you're passing by as well) but I'm not sure there's any place that you can't possibly avoid fights. If you're serious you'll have to grind this a lot and it sucks. The worst segments in my experience are the caravan escort (which I have on tape) and Algandars Castle (which I gave up on), but I'm pretty sure they're both doable. The poisoning items are much more important, and for fairy it's worth detouring to the goblin village where you can buy them early (don't remember when offhand but it's probably in this thread) since you can also activate the Pig there for later. You'll want them for almost every boss (the one you can get early even saves time on Daniel lol), and usually need them. Natalie and Gawain are both impossible head-on.

The only place to grind is in Septem Cave (?) when you're on your way to the octopus. You can kill the octopus by hitting the tentacles once and poisoning him, after which you can safe spot until he dies. But that takes about 20 minutes, so it's faster to level up in the dungeon until you can fight him legit. Make sure you still poison it.

Things get a bit different after the split. I think you can get a Tsuchinoko Droplet or whatever they're called as you're leaving Radiata City. I think this is worth it against the orb demon, because you're going to be spamming both damage increasing commands and the axe volty constantly. Once you get the Arbitrator from Gawain you can sell all your other weapons. ogu_dai levels up to 29 to recruit Gil, who makes Cross and other fights against a lot of soldiers a lot easier. In segmented you should buy the Earthquake book instead and spam it against otherwise unmanageable enemy teams; the only caveat is that you CANNOT let Romaria die or it will stop working. The earthquake strategy will also help prevent Cross from using his kill move and just killing your guys in general, so while I never got conclusive evidence, I'm pretty sure that it's actually worth healing his guys so you can spam the move for longer. (It costs 4 Volty, so it's meter neutral as long as you can hit 4 enemies.)

Aphelion strategy is to let everyone die and circle-strafe around him. It's pretty easy to block all his stuff, so then it's just slash-slash-slash-move to the side until he dies. You can power yourself up, it's usually better than pressing Volty, especially on Fairy since the 1hand special is so bad.

I'm actually only interested in doing a human story run. I'm not really sure why but I've just never been interested in running the non-human side. (I have played it through normally though.)

Also there are a few places where it's actually faster to use blaze powder instead of toadstool powder. It's also a lot more expensive to do that and in some cases a lot more risky. I also would like to note that you can actually buy toadstool powder from a merchant in the dwarf village. In fact I buy both flee balls and toadstool powders from him before the caravan escort.

A couple of questions I thought of tonight while running the game were; around how long do you spend grinding in septem cave, and around what level were you when you fought the final boss?
I just took a look at the RTA wiki and noticed there's a 4:59 time up there for the human route. I followed the Nicovideo profile to a blog post that explains the route a bit. There seems to be some stuff about the non-human route too, if you're interested. I didn't give a close read or anything, but it might help you, so here it is: blog.

Wow, thank you very much! This is very helpful.
