Quote from Mystery:
I really don't see a problem with this. Is not the purpose of a speedrun to achieve the fastest possible time? If you trade time for laziness, then is it a speedrun?

Going to call you back slightly on this one:
The purpose of a 100 m race is to achieve the fastest time possible … while not using any illicit substances/methods to your advantage. The only question is, what is defined as illicit and why?

I agree with you there.

Regardless of the argument games were meant to be played on console (or pc if it were released for it) and not on emulator that allow you to savestate/speedup and no matter how u look at it emulator runs WILL have a higher chance of being targeted for cheating.  Regardless of the fact most emu's run at a slightly slower framerate that doesn't excuse ignorance of not purchasing consoles to run it.  Use emu if you want to have fun but don't use it if you want to be a serious world record contendor as that is just a blow to the stomach to a ton of runners.
I believe the second post said everything that was relevant.

It's game- and community-specific.

Of course that's about World Records.  SDA is not a records site, and has different standards. Emulators are not allowed unless they're in an official re-release of the game, such as the Wii VC.

There are a lot of emulated runs which are very impressive. I know that I wouldn't have had the patience to produce them. And many SDA-runners give thanks to TASers for finding tricks and certain game mechanics. Good TASes should be acknowledged as well as good runs on original consoles. Just not on SDA.
