Hi,
I am very new to this forum but I am not new to the games. I have been playing them since Quake came in 1996.

What I am wondering is what are the strategies for speedrunning Quake 2? Especially when going through lasers, health management for later levels and those tricky jumps like triggering the door explosion to get you to the big gun.

I've been looking at the speedruns for this game in depth and I am really impressed by the things I see but I feel that there is still room for improvement. I am trying to set a new record on the first map of the game with better jumps across the map, but I have seen that the randomness of the path of the weak guards make it really difficult to get right. Every time I play I get a different situation, so I understand that a lot of work has been put into successfully speedrunning this game.

I think the game is possible to be completed in less than 19 minutes and 20 seconds, but I am tempted to believe it might be possible to finish in under 19 minutes.

Hello!

As far as I know, the lasers are not constant, they "shoot" with short intervals, so if you are fast enough, you can strafe jump through them so they don't hit you. I personally don't use this strategy, as it feels really unsafe.

Health management in later levels is not that hard, unless playing on hard difficulty, once you get the Energy Armor.

About the door to the big gun; there is a trigger that sticks out from the roof, so you need to time a rocket jump with a grenade explosion to get to a little ledge above the door. The trigger is at the right of the door. I usually hit the trigger when jumping off the ledge backwards.
