As a request, I think finishing times for the runs should be listed somewhere in each thread, it feels a little odd that they aren't there.
This turned out very good.  I am also glad you went ahead with this move.
by putting the verification process in the limelight you've given it much more publicity.
I can see people crowding in line to verify now, no?

Verification happens before timing. The times could be added later, but is it really necessary? They're unrelated.

Oh, right, I guess there's no point then.

The idea of your remark reminded me of a favorite quote of mine. It took me a couple days to find.

"It is a profoundly erroneous truism, that we should cultivate the habit of thinking what we are doing. The precise opposite is the case. Civilization advances by extending the number of important operations we can perform without thinking about them."

ON TOPIC:
This is a great idea..... The one downside i see is, yes it takes the mystery out off verifacation, but now you have to be a "public" critic. Where as before, we would communcate only with mikwuyma, we are now subject to be held accountable in front of the entire forum. :-[ This could be as much of a turn off to new verifiers as was the missunderstanding of the process. Granted there is anonymity but there is still pressure to make an important desicion on behalf of the whole community.

Personally it doesnt bother  Smiley

I am actually curious of the run times too. I'd just like to know I guess.

The one downside to all of this, as that you're not completely surprised as to what's gonna be on the news page anymore. Sad
boss
Maybe making a topic for a run that got accepted AFTER it is released would be a good idea.

I actually like this, knowing what's coming.

Well look at it this way, now you can be completely surprised as to what's gonna be on the verification board. Grin

Same concept, just a few steps earlier than actually being on the news page. At least that's the way I'm looking at it, so it doesn't really take anything away for me either way.
I like the way this forum is as-is.  why would you NOT wanna know when a run is accepted?  so there's some hope you'll be surprised with a run you had no idea was in progress?  like 99% of any important run usually has its own topic in the forums, with the runner letting people know when he's done the run anyway...so the only surprise would be if it got accepted or not.

if you wanna be surprised, don't wear protection, blindfold yourself, and have sex with a few prostitutes.  you can tell the doctor to wait until you actually see an STD yourself before he informs you about having one, cause if he just told you it'd ruin all the fun  Undecided

Nobody on staff cares either way, so maybe we should make a poll about it. Post when the run is accepted or when it goes up.
O Zlda?

You should have said "If you wanna be surprised, don't read this subforum". A lot cleaner, in more ways than one. And as for me personally, in both situations my curiosity would get the best of me and I'd peek, so YMMV.

That's what I was thinking. Either way, I'll still post rejections after I send the runner a rejection notice.

Poll added.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
What I think should be done is that the runner should be informed whether the run has been accepted right away.

Once the run is posted people can comment on the newly posted run in this board. Instead of just being able to see that the run was accepted, everyone will be able to actually view the run and see the verifiers comments. They could give feedback about the run at that point. The way it's done currently, viewers cannot give feedback because the run hasn't been posted yet. So I feel it's only useful to the runner who did the run.

Maybe the runner should be sent the verifier(s) comments once the run has been accepted or rejected and then once the run is posted on SDA the verifier comments can be posted in this board? The rejected runs could be done the way they are currently I guess.

I want to change my vote to "after the run has been officially posted"

Added a time limit to the poll. I figure most people who care about this issue will vote within a week anyways.

BTW, I voted for posting right away because it's easier to organize my PMs if I post earlier rather than later.

Yeah, I already changed it. Looks like I'm outnumbered anyway though. I guess the way it is currently is pretty nice. I certainly liked seeing the verifiers' comments right away.  Smiley
damn. screw democracy! *changes votes*

j/k.
* xXAlucard makes 10 accounts and votes to post right as the run is accepted Wink

The SDA voter only votes for the worst possible choice! We mods need to protect the community from making such poor decisions Wink

i also voted for the "right away" option.
Fucking Weeaboo
If it ends up being "right away", that's fine.  I just wanted to throw in a different POV, cause at times it is a bit of a letdown to see this and then when it shows up on the news page go "I knew this was coming."  That was half the excitement of the news page. ^^;;

(The other half is when it's YOUR run on the news page. Tongue )
O Zlda?
I'd like to mention that I 3rd the notion that it would be an EXCELLENT idea to put Rejected in the thread title for rejected runs (and nothing for accepted runs, the majority). However, it's also VERY entertaining as it is now, to read the comments and see how its going before scrolling down to the final "Decision:", so perhaps it should remain as it is.

It would be very cool (but only if you have the time and/or the PMs still laying around), if threads could be made for some of the more notable past submissions, prior to this forum's inception.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that having the verifier's actual comments posted can only be a good thing? First off, they're anonymous unless they choose to reveal it later in the thread, so there's no actual guilt/risk in anything a verifier says or doesn't say... but more importantly, this might encourage verifiers to be more thorough now that they know everyone will probably eventually see their decision. It's the closest most of us will ever come to being like respected judges with published verdicts. I'd go so far as to offer verifiers the option of having their name quoted directly in the thread if they were to choose so, although I understand the very real necessity of keeping verifiers a secret, especially if a run is rejected or likely to be improved soon, so as not to taint the verifier pool for a run or encourage a break of secrecy prior to a final decision.
