Glitching EB 1 flying man at a time
Yeah, probably better to keep verifiers a secret, especially if the game is very obscure and the same verifiers intend on doing it again if, like you said, the run is going to be improved (e.g. my Bonk's Adventure and Joe and Mac runs).

I'm enjoying this folder thoroughly, too. It's fun to read the comments from other people, as it helps me in case I ever want to verify a run.
Visually Appealing

If it ends up being "right away", that's fine.  I just wanted to throw in a different POV, cause at times it is a bit of a letdown to see this and then when it shows up on the news page go "I knew this was coming."  That was half the excitement of the news page. ^^;;

(The other half is when it's YOUR run on the news page. Tongue )

not very exciting to me. i don't like to be kept in suspense.

besides, even though the run is accepted, you still don't exactly know when it'll show up on the front page. a couple other runs could preempt it, or processing the vids may get delayed.

I say after the run has been officially posted so we don't hear of the run until it's downloadable. If you did it sooner half of SDA would know about the new Sonic 2 SS before Enhasa's loyal RSS readers. I like the idea of rejected runs getting a thread here as well. That way if someone else was to try the run, they would have an idea of what they have to beat, not only in time, but expectations.

I would still have to argue against waiting because (a) you can avoid the forum if it bothers you, but more importantly (b) it encourages discussion about key issues in the run, possibly leading to either the runner attempting again for a better time [edit: has already happened in less than a month!], or looking into problem areas in which there may be cheating, giving the author a chance to explain any odd strategy that the run may very well entirely hinge on [edit: has already happened in less than a month!]... not exactly common occurances, but I don't really think it could hurt, either.

And there's still a great amount of excitement and suspense in seeing that a run was accepted and then patiently waiting and finding it in a news post when it's finally available for download. I don't really see a spoiler happening there because the news will still be thrilling, you'll just have precog about what it will be. And face it, the news isn't thrilling when it only contains runs of games you dont care about or haven't played, so it can only help with your suspense to know that something relevant to your interests is coming.

Plus, how often did you get to watch rejected runs, if you're the curious type, before this forum existed?
drybes ftw Smiley

does anyone not realize that the verifier forum is not revealing anything you can't figure out through the rest of the site?  i mean there is a verification thread that used to be only in general chat...that listed games...that would either be rejected or accepted.  not many games only get verifiers through irc, so i have no idea what this whole "surprise" thing is about.

I guess I'm an unusual case where half of my runs haven't gone into the verification topic because of how popular they were. My really good runs won't be a suprise anymore... but still it's in this forum just rather than the news page, so it doesn't really change anything.

Like Alucard said, the votes have spoken, so I'll continue to post runs on the verification board the moment the decision is made.

It would be very cool (but only if you have the time and/or the PMs still laying around), if threads could be made for some of the more notable past submissions, prior to this forum's inception.

Check the newest group of runs. Unfortunately, I can't post any other runs, even if I wanted to.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Holy crap, we have so many lurkers. Shocked
yeah ... kind throws a monkey wrench in the whole "internet people don't know when to shut up" thing.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
I've never heard anyone say that. Huh? Everywhere I've been (not much) is people being scared to post.
you are a lucky man, my friend.

People like Alucard have that effect on people. Hell, I can imagine Mike sweating with extreme paranoia as his finger approaches the "Post" button in fear that his stalker will reply within 30 seconds with the contents of his grocery list.

I remember now, I did go to neogaf before and my reaction was something like puking in my mouth.

probably

btw thanks for the humorous and witty post  Wink
Is there a way to make the 'Runs needing verification' post show up in 'Show unread posts since last visit' when it's modified? It used to in the previous version of the forum, and seeing as I browse almost exclusively with show-unread I tend to miss it changing unless I remember to deliberately check.
Everything's better with Magitek
I was wondering if it would be possible to let the verifiers see the runner's comments when they verify?  (Comments are usually required before the runner can submit the run anyway, right?)  I've noticed that in some of the verifiers' comments, they had questions about the run that the runner was able to answer later and would most likely have been in their comments.

Thirded. Even if it's as simple as "sorry for that 23 minutes of nothing but leveling that you were forced to sit through" as with my Willow run, I would also like it if the verifier could see the comments.

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
just forward the email, dont even have to reattach
Haha, there would be a greater chance that my run wouldn't be accepted if the verifiers had seen my comments. I admit to a lot of mistakes.

Nothing lazy about it if it hasn't crossed your mind. =p

TETRISED!

It might have made some difference in opinion in my Fire Red run, if the verifiers knew why I was vitamin hunting, for example...and I'm sure there could be a hundred other examples out there from various people and runs.
