EDIT: Below is the original post. There is currently a run in progress by bloodisblue. His progress can be followed on the following Youtube Playlist :

This thread is basicaly a request, instead of a run I will perform. But wait before telling me there's a thread about requesting.

I have been preparing this run in secret. I was supposed to speedrun and record it before I make a public announcement. But I had a problem with recording. I can't speedrun this game unless I update my computer. I noticed that when I'm recording, the game speed is dropping. There's is no "frame skip", but I can feel the difference in the speed, and it makes hard to double jump and do every tricks perfectly, because it's not the same timing.

I discovered that when I had planned the whole run. In the intro part, where you have to run to the top of the tree for Basic Braining of Coach Oleander, there's a small kid saying something about a small kid who was shooking up by the Coach(...). Without recording, I was getting to the top before the story was over. When I'm recording, I'm about at 3/4 of the way when the story ends.

I noticed that the audio stays the same, but the gameplay is different.

But still, I want to request this run, because I don't want to have planned this run for nothing. I've found a couple of shortcuts and bugs that makes gameplay faster.

Psi Rank required to complete the game: 30.
You need rank 20 for the cobweb duster, but you need level 30 for Invisibility for the Gloria's Theater stage and Waterloo World.

I have found a way to skip the way that requires Invisibility for that stage. It's not too hard to perform.

So the point of the run is to get Rank level 30 for Gloria's Theater by doing Waterloo World and Black Velvetopia first (you can do either of the 3 at that point, there's no order).

I found a good route to get the maximum Psi Figments without slowing too much the run. While you are collecting Deep Arrowheads for the Cobweb duster, there's a lot of Psi Cards and Psi Marker to help you boost your Rank, so it's not hard to get the required rank for Gloria's Theater.

If anyone is interested in running this game, I will help as much as I can for the tricks and bug I have found. I can even make some videos. If someone shows interest in the run, I will also try to find more bugs.

So, anyone's down?

Edit: I'm currently doing this run. Two segments have been done so far.

Segment 1 :
Segment 2 :
Thread title:
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I tried to record it today but i got only 1-2 fps with fraps.
Strange because when i recorded it the counter showed 15-20 fps.
Spitoon.
One problem:  You need invisibility for Boyd's mind too.  Unless there's a way to get in the Rainbow Sprites' house without it, which I haven't found.
Do you mean Milksman Conspiracy? If yes, you just need to use the Psi Blast on the little girl, and she'll be knocked, and you can run inside.

How's your progress?  FYI, I've been able to do a 3-hour single-pass run although it wasn't recorded.  A freestyle multi-segment run will be faster, which I intend to record.

I've just updated mine - my situation was slightly worse, as the only thing I could get was either a glitched or frame-skipped video (and not notice until after recording.)

Maye I could do a three segment run - first involves profile creation followed by ALT-F4, second invovles loading the first auto-save and immediatly saving (for a warp), and third is the rest of the game... Smiley
A run segmented that way would be useless. You'd be better doing a whole SS instead. After that, you can segment after each 1-2 levels if you want. But the way you make your 3 segment is totaly no speedrun friendly.
Finaly back on it, because I can finaly record it. I have done only the segment 1, than I have to refresh my optimisation.

Stalker!
thats cool
the time is close to perfect only at some points you could do it a bit faster

but its only practise so its good Smiley

and im looking forward to it
What is there to correct? This segment is almost as perfect as I can do it. If I make it perfect, it would save less than 10 seconds.
Stalker!
some wall bumps like the 1 at 2:22
or the missed beat at the top of the canon at 4:51 but all in all nothing serious.
Strange days, incredible days
Very well done, I was surprised by the drop onto the rail-grinding section near the end. Always suspected you could do that, but never managed to find where to jump from.

One thing I will note: I think using target lock-on to flip and cartwheel is faster than just standard running. Might cut your overall time down.

Good luck, can't wait to see this!
I'm going to try this. By the way, this run is semi-on hold because of school and stuff. I'm pretty busy, and the worst thing I have to do is plan how many arrowheads I need, how many cards and core to get my level 30 on time. Collecting Figments do help me, but it's not enough to reach this level without slowing me too much.
Love this game! Really liked what you showed of basic braining. I found that you can sort of skip punching the covers up in front of the bunker - not sure if thats really faster though.

Anyway, whats the basic route? Im guessing its something like
Basic Braining, Goto Neins Lab, Tumbler, goto crullers lab and back , Neins Shooting range, Tumbler  again, Goto Lake, Millas training to get the levitation thing to move faster.

Nows a good spot to collect some easy markers and cards to gain some levels and enough arrowheads for the detector. Later its either dark (more enemies) or you have to return from the asylum island.

Final Tumbler, Mini-Brain-Tank boss, Bottom of the Lake (you can find lots of deep arrowheads here iirc), Lungfishtopolis+boss.

(Without regard to leveling up you should be about lvl 10/11 now. At least thats how it worked out in my test playthroughs)
Boyd next (Needs pyrokinesis for the vines on the graveyard, iirc).
Then the 3 minds/items from the minds to enter the asylums tower in any order you like (cobweb duster).
I think a return to the main lodge/crullers lab cant be avoided here (To buy the duster and have cruller give you the new powers), so that return should also be used to buy cores for the cards or grind some more.

Tower, Free Lily, Tank Boss, Meat Circus should be rather easy then (route wise, those are still pretty long segments).

Id really like to help you some more, but ive tried to run the first level and i found out i really suck at longer segments, so i cant really compete with you. I will try to screw around to see if i find anything else though.

So good luck, looking forward to any results Smiley

You pretty much resumed my route Mr. Position. After Millas is the best time to collect whatever I need for later (Rank 30 by the Theater one) Because after that, it's night, and there's a lot of animals who makes the card/arrowheads hunting harder.  I get my money for Cores at that moment (it takes one or 2 spots to pay the 6-10 cores I need (I loaded a old game, and I had bought 8 cores, so I guess it's the ammount I need.) When I get to the moment I need invisibility, I will be level 20-24, I'll use the slice of beacon to transforms my card, than teleport back to the crazy girl. And then I go up the tower and do the linear stuff after that. I don't think I need anything after Invisibility (Correct me if I'm wrong).

I could use death abuse to recharge my Psycho Blast, but I don't want my run to be tagged as "abused deaths", so I'll try to find a way to refill my energies without dying.
Uhm. To complete Boyd you need to get the sewer disguise, right? The one in the postal office back room with the cameras... which is blocked by a cobweb?
Is there any way to glitch around that? Cause if not id would mean that youd have to get the 800 ah duster, requiring the 50 ah detector + rank 20. So thats grinding to get rank 20 + 50 ah, AND then grinding AGAIN with the detector (also get pyrokinesis at lvl 15,so a visit to crullers sanctuary is mandatory). All before/during the lake level. Of course you can collect quite a few ah on the bottom of the lake in the autoscrolling parts (managed to get around 400 but i missed quite a few spots) so that parts not that bad. Youd still need to
get to the lodge and back to the asylum, so you practically change time for cash.

I guess id be the best to collect any full markers to get to lvl 20, because they dont require any money. There are about 50-60 cards you can get in the basic camp levels, though getting all of them wastes quite a few minutes. And youd still have to buy the cores, so id guess theyre best for the ranks 20 upwards once youve got some leftover cash from the cobwebduster. Depending on how much you can rank up during the 3 levels before the theater stage,  its pretty much the only choice.
I tested the Shift + Space movement trick. It is indeed faster. For a short distance, I got 4 second with Shift + Space, and 7 seconds with normal walking. Every other dodge moves (backward, side) is as fast. Problem is the camera + control. It is much harder to move properly with Dodging ability.

I tried it in Basic Braining, and I did only a couple of mistakes (10-20 sec) and I ended up with 6:57 (3 sec slower than my other recorded run). Basic braining is twisty, and the Dodging speed vs the difficulty is not really worth it for this level.

Also, since I will get Levitation spell pretty quick, I wont need to Dodge move. I will still be using it in my future segment, if I have long straight forward distance to run, but I'm not going to redo the first segment.
Strange days, incredible days
It's mainly a question of using it in short bursts where you wouldn't have to worry too much about changing direction. There's not much point to it in Sasha's mind, but it comes in handy during the first two Brain Tumbler sections before getting Levitation. Not to mention around the camp, for when the underground transit doesn't put you exactly where you need to be. It takes some practice getting used to when you have to shift the camera around (it's possible to move up the winding walkway to Oleander's hut with it faster than walking, but you have to readjust the camera after each flip).

As for not redoing Basic Braining with it: fair enough, the segment is still excellently done and looks difficult to reproduce without a lot of time and effort. Good luck, and no rush, school etc. comes first.
Segment two is done. Sorry for the crappy Youtube Quality. I just don't want to spend to much time into compressing for Youtube. The end product will have better image/sound.

Strange days, incredible days
Looks awesome. Good use of the out-of-bounds shortcut in the camp.
New segment. Segment 3.

It took a while for this one. It was planned and everything, but a lot of things got me away from it. One time, my comp couldn't record 30fps, the other day, Fraps was crashing on opening (had to get another version). Sometimes I just sucked and couldn't do it (The earlier segment were predictable, there wasn't a lot of monsters with their own AI.)

Anyway, finaly it's here. A small mess up with a Boss, and at some place, I screw myself with the Shift + Space movement method, make me run in a crew of stamplers.

The segment is not perfect, but I thought it was acceptable, not much worse than the others.

So here it is.

I just want to say thanks to the 4-5 persons who gives me comment here or on youtube. It's what makes me continue to do this run. Only one person would be enough to keep me going, so thanks for your support guys.

Also, I think this will be my last public segment before I actualy submit it to SDA. I'm planning to make a teaser about it when I'm near the end. I'll still keep you up to date on where I am on the run, and hopefully I will finish it before the end of 2007.
Go for it! Psychonauts is a great game, I'd like to see your speed run being done.
hey, here's one more guy who's looking forward to seeing your run! great job so far Smiley
