Thanks for the information StrangenessDSS. I guess I'll just go for it, then.
What if he had a means of "clipping" out the middle of any extended pauses, leaving only a second or two of each end of the pause (perhaps by pausing the recording device after the game is paused and unpasing it just before the game is unpaused)?
I think I might be able to memorize it all. It might look a little bit more sloppy, but I also think that pausing during a speedrun looks sloppy too.

What I don't like is the timing method used. I guess I just don't understand the reasoning behind it. I could save my game just before the last blow and use that time. Seeing as how all the end scenes and credits can be skipped anyways (3 seconds extra) I don't see the problem in using the game timer instead of having someone else spend the extra effort timing the run.
I haven't asked yet, but does anyone know of any shortcuts/timesavers I could use in my run? I'll give credit where necessary and all help will be appreciated. Thanks.
I'm done with all my finals so I can finally fully dedicate myself to this run. I'm going through preliminary runs right now. I still have to find a way to get a VHS tape to record it, too.

Strange days, incredible days
About the Dowsing Rod, the chunks of arrowheads it pulls up vary from >20 to somewhere around 90-100 at times. If this is a segmented run, it may be worth making it its own segment. You could probably save a good 40 seconds to a minute by using the optimal attempt at getting 800 arrowheads.

Also, not sure if it's as bad as it is in the PS2 version, but plan out what areas you visit ahead of time carefully, as the load times are atrocious. See if you could disable the auto-save as well, I've wondered if not having a memory card in the PS2 will make the load screens faster (though I'm not sure what the Xbox equivalent is or how that works, just a suggestion).
The Xbox version doesn't use memory cards.

Also, I think the Deep Arrowhead route I've got going will work as they're always in the same location and it's easy to plot out. Somehow my whole run is set up in a circular path so I only have to memorize paths and not every specific detail.
My first few final boss fights were easy, but now.... In short, I'm going to be delaying my recording for a couple of weeks. I've decided to try for a no death run (heavily emphasized word "try") and so I'm going to need to find a consistent no death strategy for the final boss fight as it's a pain in the ass, as is. I also want to see if time will help the segment skip finding process... probably not. This in no way means I'm quitting, though.
