do those of us who have ps3s or pcs with decent video hardware want to contribute work units to an sda team? i've already made one:
#110285

pc info:
http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

ps3 info:
to join, go to ps3 main menu -> network -> folding@home
be sure to set the team # in the settings once you start folding.

Quote from Kibbo:
I think more people should join in on this. It's a good cause and it gives SDA as a whole good PR.

If you don't have the CPU power chances are you do have the GPU power, thanks to the new CUDA from NVIDIA and Stream Computing from ATI/AMD, allowing FAH to run on the GPU instead of the CPU. Which means you can still use your computer in a normal way, except for gaming, while you're folding since the CPU doesn't do shit. And somewhat modern GPUs are almost infinitely more powerful than any consumer CPU you can think of today, including those in gaming consoles, so it's not like you will have to run it for days at a time unless you want it to.

Edit.

Supported AMD/ATI hardware.
Supported NVIDIA hardware*.

* The GTX 260, 280, 285 and 295 are also supported.
Thread title:
MGS for PS1 forever.
I'm on it now.
Forgive my dumbness...but how exactly does it work?
ps3 main menu -> network -> folding@home

tri-Ace 4evar!!!
I'm currently on it right now.  My PSN ID is pretty easy to figure out  Grin
I have no solution, but i admire the problem.
that's also open for PC nerds, right? If i'll ever get a decent pc on a decent connection again..
yep. just don't expect even the best pc in the world to compare to a ps3.
The baddle haz jusd begunn!
Keep in mind that if you want to use more than one core of a multi-core CPU, you need to open more than one instance of the command line version of F@H and assign them to different cores.
And what is the purpose of this?

there is also a multi-core version of this, called SMP, but it's for high-highend only. sort of. and of course one for radeon gpus. take that nvidia!

My PSN ID is Ryebert. I'll be on their soon, my PS3 is having issues with the internet right now. Sad
Yoshi's eggs are at my mercy!
I finally got off my ass and installed Folding@Home. Now that I'm part of the best team that Stanford has ever received data from I can now spam:

I'm folding this on my new Q6600 I built last week.  It's running @ 3.3ghz (367 X 9).  I'm going to try and get it up to 3.6ghz later on.  Also, I'm using that w/e SMP beta client.

Without the  SMP Client? Do you know the standard client only runs on 1 core?

You have a quad core now? I need one of those, but my computer is considered a "dinosaur."  Sad

It kills my old P4 2.6ghz with HT in encoding by a lot.  With my quad at 3.4ghz (425 X 8 ), I usually get around 80fps average using x264 via Virtualdub.  I tried using mvbob but I only got around 20fps.  Mvbob doesn't seem to support multiple threads but if it does, I have no idea where to enable it.  (20 fps using just one core).

nate: 2008-04-21 04:49:36 am
mvbob doesn't support multiple threads because avisynth doesn't and the only virtual multithreading solution i tried (can't remember the name of it now) which was slicing the picture into sections caused severe artifacts with mvbob. for my solution please see my blog.

note that as of version 3 anri-chan has this built in as an option.
tri-Ace 4evar!!!
Ohh alright.  I think I should try out Anri-chan later on since I may do a SS for SO3 during the summer =0 (I could just do batch encoding or use MeGUI though).

on a quad core encoding a d1 f1 video the sumichan speedup will be near an order of magnitude, especially if you also have a fast hard drive (which i assume you do).

Lay waste to everything...but I still love SDA!
I didn't mention it, but i joined the team some time before. I hope i can be a little help.
