Hello everyone,

I would like to know whether any speedrun exists for the original Resident Evil on PS1. I mean, not for RE Director's Cut but for the actual first Resident Evil, which did not include the auto-aiming feature in the western (Europe and US) versions of the game.

Thanks for sharing knowledge.
Thread title:
Akuma ma ta ta, what a wonderful phrase!
i didn't find anything on the net so yeah you can do it but if you could do a knife run with chris, that would be pretty cool (there's already a knife run with jill on director's cut, and seeing a re1 run with jill would be pointless i think, well that's just my opinion, do as you wish man, but do it with chris mwahaha just joking)
Thanks for your answer.
However, I am not planning any recorded run, I just wonder why none exists for the original RE.
When I search the Net for RE speedruns, it is like RE Director's Cut had implicitly replaced RE1 as far as speedruns are concerned.
any reason you're looking for the original besides no auto-aim?
No, this is the only reason.
Indeed, I find the different RE Director's Cut speedruns I have seen quite impressive, but since I "only" own RE1, I would like to find appropriate runs.
For instance, the knife-only patterns used to defeat the Tyrant in RE Director's Cut are great, but they are really based on auto-aiming, thus forbidden for RE1 players like me.
I see that as a psychological complication here.
What do you mean by that ?
Akuma ma ta ta, what a wonderful phrase!
AjAX, i think you're wrong, speed running is all about challenge and difficulty, and re1 without auto aim is clearly harder than re1  director's cut
so do your run, J! mwaha

Well, i know what speedrunning is...
And there's just no point of doing that, because most of the time, zombies are in front of you so, auto-aim or no, you will still shot it. That's it.
And in a resident evil 1 speedrun, you only kill about 6 enemies MAX, so........
I'm I still wrong. :-/
Thanks to both of you for your answers.

Anyway, as I said before, I am not planning to record any run so I am not trying to convince anyone to accept RE1 runs. Smiley
I just wonder why RE Director's Cut seems to have implicitly replaced RE1 as far as speedruns are concerned.
Considering the great respect for oldies I feel on the site, I cannot believe it would be a matter of necessarily using the latest version of the game.
And if, as AjAX said, it is not a matter of auto-aiming either, I really cannot figure the reason why the original RE1 has become obsolete in the speedrunning field.

It could be a matter of the fact that there are MUCH more copies of the directors cut version of the game out there then there are of the original.

Yeah, there's probably only Director's Cut runs because that's the copy the runners' had at the time they did their runs.

Shin has times of 1:12:32 and 1:12:28 on his site for the NTSC version (there's a couple of Chinese players in the tables, but I'm not sure if they all played the Japanese version). Their PAL times would be roughly 1:27:04 and 1:27:00.

I arrived late on the scene, so the runs are either no longer on the site or they were never captured and uploaded. You can have a look at the tables here -
http://homepage3.nifty.com/shin3/capcom/bio1.htm

He also has times of 1:03:32 and 1:07:50 for playing the game on the PS2.

Anyone think of RE1 for the Saturn? I'm pretty sure that was before the Director's Cut, and therefore it's the the original version as well. Plus it had that cool mini-game.

Hi !!
Hey i have just finished Resident Evi DS (Clasic Mode, is the same as the original one for PS1) with Special Weapons (infinitive rocket luncher) in 46:19 minutes!!! Should i record it and  upload it ?!?!

the saturn one was before directors cut for psx... the saturn version was out before it was released for psx...

anyways... there is no difference between resident evil and resident evil directors cut... theyre the same game... except directors cut has extra difficulties
If I'm not mistaken, Director's Cut almost always allowed you to skip the final tyrant battle and cut to an ending where you see the shadow of the tyrant looking at the  heli? That allows for a slightly faster completion,no?

Also, I can't remember the enemy layout too well but I'm sure there were some differences between RE and RE:DC on Normal mode. All in all, Director's Cut would be the easier of the two to run as well as the faster of the two.

the endings are the same for both resident evil and resident evil directors cut... it matters what you do earlier in the game. not the version...

they both are the same...

in both versions you'd only beat the tyrant once to beat the game the quickest... to fight tyrant the final time you need to save all and pick up mo disks... blah blah... waste of time...

the only differences are like you can say yourself in mirrors in directors cut...its so much the game story thats changed... but the gameplay look... and added difficulties...

we can go through this again...

Hey, I tried a run of this yesterday.

I recieved the Best ending, and used the Bazooka throughout.

Final Time was 1:23:29, without saving.

Is this a decent time? What should I set my goal at?

A speedrun without auto aim would be pretty difficult.

Personally, I'd like to see a run of Chris with a knife. 19duke84-person could prolly do it if he felt like it.

I've kinda planned out my own little route for Chris, which could use a lot of improvement, seeing as I planned out the route with me getting bitten by the snake in mind. Hey, I'm not masochistic enough to restart my PS2 every time I get bitten by the snake =P

What is the quickest way to get Rebecca to get done playing Moonlight Sonata in Chris's scenario?

Spikevegeta, did you use auto aim or no? My bazooka-only run on my Youtube was 1:17:53 with auto aim. Got bitten by the damn snake of course, mind =X

chris or jill? either way, knocking off about 15 minutes would begin to approach an optimal time.

yeah run the first RE, autoaim helps a lot in director' s cut
and with only the combat knife, you'll have fun, for sure...

I'm not saying I know every little aspect about this game, however it would seem to be impossible for me to shave 15 minutes off of this run.

That would put my time at 1:08:31, about a minute faster than the knife-only run.

However, their is one little detail, he allows Chris and Barry to both die, while I am saving both of them in order to recieve the good or "Best Ending". That means I'm collecting all of the MO Disks, Loading them in the 3 different Pass Files, actually going to get Chris, waiting for Barry after he drops the rope, going through longer scenes with him, and having to fight Tyrant at the end. In the Knife Run, he skips all of this and takes the worst ending. I'm trying to reach the best ending.

Unless, their is some incredible way to shave off a huge chunk of time, then the best I could imagine this run being completed in is 1:20:xx, so if you could elaborate on how to do that, I would be much obliged.

BTW, I tried the run again, and got it down to 1:22:41.
well, for the best ending i wouldn't really know; you'd be a better judge than me. i wonder if the best ending would actually count as a 100% run on SDA..
I dunno man, wouldn't you have to pick up every item in the game including the Ink Ribbons and store them to qualify for 100%? As well as killing all the enemies?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I would think we would just call it a Best Ending Run, not a 100% Run.
