Hello,

I have decided to give speedrunning the game Project I.G.I 2 a shot. This game already has a run published on this site, in category segmented any%.

The game has a ranking system, that quantifies your performance in a particular level. This system is similar to that of Hitman games. The performance metrics are these:
1. Time to complete (will be used for timing)
2. Times spotted
3. Health at finish
4. Accuracy

Every mission has a specific quota of each metric to reach various degrees of ranks, just like Hitman. The maximum rank is the rank of Agent, Hitman equivalent of Silent Assassin. However, the ranks are named differently on each level of difficulty, and also, the greater the difficulty, the tighter the quotas. Therefore, on Easy the max rank is Agent, on medium Secret Agent, and on hard David Jones. What I will be attempting to do, is to finish the game on this particular rank.

To reach the max rank, in every case except for one, you cannot be spotted by the enemy. One exception is a mission, in which you are flying in a helicopter most of the time. What counts for getting spotted, is an enemy becoming alerted and spotting you in direct line of sight. However, shooting, or any other actions that might alarm the enemy, do not count towards this metric. This is in contrast to Hitman 's "Alerted" metric, in which any drawing of attentions increases the count.

Health at finish is 90 to 100% in most cases, except for helicopter missions. This constraint rules out any jumps from great heights, unless you can get the heath back up with a Medical Syringe.

Accuracy is the ratio of bullets hit to bullets fired. Grenade throws, mines, knife takedowns and use takedowns do not count as either hit or miss. Bullets that hit multiple enemies count as such, therefore you can make yourself some headroom for missing. You will not, however, get more than 100% accuracy. If the number of bullets fired is 0 (using only knife for example), the accuracy is "N/A", which treated as 100% and counts as such towards ranking. Most missions actually DO NOT require 100% accuracy. Most of the time, the quota is around 85%, leaving quite a lot of headroom for missing shots. That said, if only two shots are fired in the entire mission (shooting off a lock for example), there is a good chance that one shot misses, bringing the accuracy to 2/3 = 66%, and failing the constraint.

Time to complete is very tight on hard, however it is not a real constraint in a speedrun. The in-game mission timer, however, proves useful for the purpose of timing levels.

Note that unlike the game's predecessor, several levels are depended on one-another. Therefore, it is not feasible to have a Individual Level category for this game. In these levels, the gear with which you finish carries over to the next, while health resets to 100%.

There are some 2 year old max rank runs on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/user/killura69. However, some levels have broken consistency in terms of finished equipment to next level starting equipment. Nevertheless, they are good source of routes and technique.

Heavy AI abuse and route optimalisations abound, you are welcome to lend assistance or competition.

Individual Level Comments

1. Infiltration - 3:32
Nighttime makes this mission quite easy. Shooting the lock is faster then picking, but missing the lock is a real issue. I am going to shoot more later on, which can bring the accuracy over the limit (85% I believe). I jump through the crates so I dont have to crouch while approaching the first guard, and knife him before he turns around. It is possible to jump over the container wall, using some fortuitously placed boxes. However, the guard on the catwalk will spot you, therefore I eliminate him. Third guard below will react to noises of bullet impacts, but does not see the dead body. I proceed to walk towards the door to avoid agitating him. After I leave  the warehouse I toggle run, ignoring the guards reactions. He does not trigger the alarm, therefore is irrelevant. I run towards the water tower through the stacked containers. I have to adapt to the cameras rotation and I panic a bit. I usually take the route left of the tower. Afterward, I turn on the first conveyor belt, and enter the factory. It is possible, that a precisely timed jump catapults you off the belt and straight behind the standing guard, saving about 3 seconds. I can still run at full speed because of the machinery noise. I climb up the ladder, ignoring the patrolling guard below. He can not see through the grated floor, even though he reacts to the footsteps. I take the second conveyor belt across the river. Because of the speed, the camera can not get a lock. I run towards the exit in the shadows, there is a guard on a elevated platform that could spot me otherwise. I kill a guard near the exited without stopping, before taking out the camera. I exit the second factory compound and head to the bunker. I am not sure, what is the alert distance for the two guards standing near the lift, but I play it safe, crouch-walking and walking towards the generator, destroying the camera and lock. Turn on the generator and call the lift. At that point, the time is incompressible. I send the lift down and jump in.

2. Deep in the Mines - 3:06
I try to eliminate both guards in the top level, so I can run freely. Its difficult to get the guard to notice the body of his dead colleague instead of me. Also, they both have to die in 1 shot, or else the pain sounds will alert the garrison in the shack. I take the ventilation shaft to the bottom level. I have to slow down near the exit, or alert a guard standing above me on the cliff. Afterwards, I try to get to the objective as directly as possible, while avoiding the floodlights, which would cause my visibility meter to flare up, and getting spotted by anything looking in my direction. I run all the way to the metal staircase. From there, I crouch walk upwards, because of the guard that stands above me on the catwalk. I use the computer and pick up the grenades. I do this running, as I dont have to care about the guard on the catwalk anymore. I shoot the guard next to the keypad, as well as the two patrolling guards, that would spot me otherwise. After I open the door, I hop on the train, turn it on and hide in the last car next to the barrels. After the train arrives, I hop out and finish the mission.

3. Weather Station - 4:30
One of the more difficult missions for sure. I run as straight as possible towards the first objective. I use a well timed grenade to deal with the 2 guards standing next to it. At this point, a squad of soldiers is running down the mountain towards the objective. I pick up the PSG SD and objective 1, and turn left towards the cottage. There is a unclimbable slope nearly all the way to the rushing squad of soldiers. However, it is possible to avoid them. The path of this squad takes them all the way back to the weather station, but I finish the mission before they become a threat. I run past the cottage and the two guards outside of it. The guards on this map are not very perceptive, given the fact that its midday and visibility is good. I throw another grenade on the group of two soldiers standing on the narrow natural bridge formation. After I get past them, I throw more grenades on the idling squad of 5 soldiers standing just below the weather station hill, killing all of them. They would become a hindrance, as they are scheduled to patrol the station and entering various buildings. I kill one patrolling guard with the PSG. This guard would see me sooner or later as I were going from building to building. However, I have to do it early enough for the patrolling guard on the balcony of the cottage with computer objective not to notice him. Also, I eliminate the guard standing in front of the window in the safe objective cottage. I enter the first cottage, crouch walking because of the guards on the first floor. I time the approach in respect to the armoured camera, and use the computer. Next, I use the psg to double-kill the scientists in the lab. Leaving the cottage, I take wait for the balcony guard to look away, and proceed to the safe objective. The guard there is already dead, otherwise I would have to knife him, which could alert the guards on the first floor. After I open the safe, I proceed to the lab. The guard balcony guard is looking my way. I can not dispatch him, as there is another guard right behind him in the room, and he would hear the bullet impact, alerting everyone. I make my way to the lab, and pick up the objective. I rush out to discover a patrolling squad has made its way towards the extraction objective. Also, the balcony guard is looking my way again. I shoot him, as any alerted guards would not make it out of the cottage in time before I finished the mission. I crouch walk towards the extraction objective, hiding behind the crates from the patrol. The mission ends as soon as I use the objective, even though it is a "channeling" use.

4. Bridge across Dnestr - 5:20
Yet another difficult and quite long mission. I run straight for the first objective. It is located in a warehouse, in a compound, separated into two areas by a keypad door. There are 4 guards in the first area, through which one enters (no way to get straight into the second area), 5 guards in the second, two of which are patrolling, and 4 guards in the warehouse. Furthermore, there is a garrison of soldiers that would rush of in case of alarm, or if there any bullet hits near the door of the garrison. I use a precisely aimed m203 grenade to lure away all the guards in the first area. It is important not to alert any guard in the second area. I climb up the hill, avoiding the LOS of all the guards. If the m203 is timed just right, one of the guards LOS is blocked by the truck as we both run past it. I wait near the hole in the fence for a bit and run on towards the gate. The shadows help me to stay hidden. I open the gate and proceed to the second area. I use the shadow of a nearby container to position myself to eliminate all the guards in there. I take out the camera, and shoot the 3 guards positioned in a line. After taking out the guards, I enter the warehouse. It has odd two one-way doors opened by buttons. Im lucky, as the two scrambling guards behind the link fence are in my LOS. I kill them both, hiding in the shadow of the box. I crouch, killing the third guard, and finally I attempt to kill the guard on the catwalk. It does not go so well, and I waste a lot of time trying to kill him. I shoot the lock and the camera, picking up the objective and getting out of the compound. Next objective is below the compound, in a camp full of soldiers in gun emplacements. I climb down the hill and crawl towards the objective, using the shadows of various objects. Afterwards, I position myself behind the truck, and wait for the one patrolling guard to come towards the others. I lob a m203 on them, killing 3 of the guards. After I forcibly reload, I take out the guard in the emplacement that did not get hit. I rush towards the bushes and wait for the alerted guard to come looking for me. I shoot him from the "shadow" of the bush. I reposition myself to intercept the guard running from the bridge catwalk. I take him out from the bush shadows. At this point, a garrison of soldiers is also rushing across the bridge towards the camp. I plant the bombs on the catwalk, ignoring them. After I get to the other side, I eliminate the two stragglers silently. There are two more snipers on the hills nearby, but since I have not been spotted, there are less perceptive. I run to the other side of the bridge, onto the other catwalk. I place the third bomb. At this point, the garrison has crossed the bridge, and already one of them is running towards me. I take him out in prone. Then I try to get the other bomb planted as soon as possible. After that, I eliminate the guard searching for me on the other catwalk. Next, I lie in wait for for the remaining two guards to come for me. Waiting does not matter now, since the time is incompressible after planting the last bomb, they go off after 20 seconds. After I safely eliminate them, I make sure I equip the m16 for the next level and get clear of the blast.

5. Ambush - 1:30
Very easy level for a change. All the guards in the convoy are actually starting out behind one of the trucks. Right after the start of the mission, they scramble and take their respective positions. I take a quick shot into the crowd, alerting and halting them in place. Right after, I lob my last m203, killing all but one. After that, I pick up the rpg, destroy the APC, kill the last guard hiding next to the road, pick up the objective from below the truck, and get to the extaction.

6. Production Facility - 4:56
There are lots of guards in this mission, but it is possible to avoid most of them. I first make my way towards the main gate. I shoot off the lock, and crouch walk a little distance into the compound to avoid getting spotted by the 2 guards in the towers. I run towards the glass building. I jump right before hitting the noisier concrete and start walking. Avoiding overly alerting the guards and spreading out the noise made over time is key. It is possible to destroy the glass instantly when you hold LMB with the knife. at least sometimes. I take out the camera that could raise the alarm when i walk by later. I ignore the optional objective of disabling the cameras, and navigate straight towards the safe. In the hallway, where there is an armoured camera, I walk directly under it without it getting a lock on me. However, this alerts the guards above, therefore I have to crouch walk towards the safe. I get the objective an position myself below the camera again and wait for the guards to cool down. When I hear them relax, I walk out the hallway again, and onto the metal catwalk leading towards the guard tower with another optional objective. Before I get there, I lie in wait for the patrolling guard on the balcony of the glass building to get in my LOS. There is a camera there as well, so I have to take him out while he is in the cameras blind spot. I take him out, and a patrolling guard below me as well, while he is behind the crates. I carefully walk up to the guard in the tower, knifing him and turning of the electricity in the fence. I jump down, and I shadow the patrolling guard. I choose not to kill him, as the bullet impact might alert another guard garrison in the building behind him. I climb over the fence and into the facility. There are two guards behind the truck that wont spot me if a noise wont alert them. Also, a camera that is fortunately turned away. I run past the second camera in the assembly hall, completing the second mandatory objective. Afterwards, I run back towards the assembly line, killing the two scientists and using the computer upstairs in the control centre. After that, an unavoidable alarm goes off. A squad of soldiers will rush in through the door I came in. Therefore, I open the gate on the conveyor belt and use that to get out of the assembly hall. One of the pair of guards from earlier is there, unfortunately. I take him out, while walking backwards. I get stuck for a bit on a lying crate. I take care for the other guard not to notice me. I exit the facility, and make my way towards the ladder leading up the wall. I kill the guard patrolling the wall. I would try to take out the sniper in the tower at the end of the wall, however there is a squad of alerted soldiers running towards me from the left, so I play it safe and jump off the wall. Near the end, I take out the guard next to the trailer, as well as the sniper from earlier. There is also a guard in the sniper in the woods, which I take out just in case. Afterwards, its just run towards extraction.

7. Border Crossing - 3:48
A fairly simple level. I take out the sniper and double-kill the other guards with his gun. I use the first objective. Afterwards, I run straight on, via the forest next to me, towards the extraction. After leaving the forest, I take out the sniper that could spot me, as I will be running straight at him. It turns out, that if I run at above a certain speed for a certain distance from the gunship, it does not hit me. Therefore, I am able to run through the clearing, ignoring the gunship entirely. I enter and exit the second forest, running towards the bushes where the gunship is landing. I crawl to avoid getting spotted by it. The angle, at which the gunship can not shoot is not easily identified. After crawling for a while I get up and run towards the fence. There is a guard in the watch tower, therefore I run so that one of the pillars of the tower blocks the guards LOS on me. I get over the fence and the mission ends.

8. Libyan Rendezvous - 2:37
I make my way towards objective no.3. I ignore the escort objective and the objective to shut down security systems. I kill the guard on the pier, then the guards in the alley. Climbing up the ladder, I make sure to make a little noise for one of the upcoming guards to turn around. The sniper is oblivious to me, however, there is a guard on an inaccessible walkway right behind him. In the interest of not alerting anyone else, I crouch walk behind the sniper, taking out the guard and the sniper in rapid succession. I take the guards PSG to take out random balcony patrolling guards. The important factor here is the noise form the gunshot. It lures several guards away from their posts. This makes sure that they dont sound alarms any time soon. I hop on a sticking out piece of roof next to the balcony railing and run towards the corner of the building. From there, I shoot the two rushing guards with the socom. I hop on the wall, and then onto the tarp below me. At this point, another group of 3 guards is running towards the gunshot from earlier. I take them all out quietly. I proceed to blow up the fuel dump. The objective is not mandatory, but it makes the mission a lot easier. At this point, a different group of guards is on my heels, as heard from the sound of the gate opening behind me. Im not sure where they went after I planted the bomb, but ignoring them, I make my way towards the back alley. The jump I make below the arch is not necessary, because I took out the guard patrolling the balcony on the left before with the PSG, but otherwise it would possibly help with avoiding any guards standing there. I wanted to play it safe, and the time is incompressible at this point anyway, because I have to wait for the guards to clear the building with the final objective. Making my way through the back alley, I lie in wait for 6 guards to clear the building. Afterwards, I shoot the lone guard on the balcony and the camera above me so that the alarm does not go off. This is to ensure that the executioner (objective 5) stays in the same spot, where I can easily kill him through the railing, that although is transparent, the NPCs can not see through it. I kill the executioner, and make my way towards Priboi. I was expecting another guard to sulk about the building somewhere, but he was not to be found. The mission ends the moment you walk into the room with Priboi.
