I don't have the money for Strike Raid in Enchanted Dominion. Also, our command deck is pretty full up until where we get it in Castle of Dreams.
The Air Dash would save maybe a second? I'll keep that in mind.

Aqua's leveling setup needs more looking at. Primarily, a faster Vanitas 2 would be most delicious, she's low on the damage there.

You have the money in enchanted dominion. I said don't buy confuse(+100g) and buy strike raid(-100g).
Buy 2 confuse and one cure(350g) at the end of the manipulating seg then. Esuna and blackout sell for 600g. So yeah you have it^^

I have it in Dwarf Woodlands, which is what I think you're thinking of. :p
oh um.... yeah...^^'''''
Hello everyone. I picked this game up a few months ago as my first attempt of speedrunning a game. For now, I've been focusing on doing single-segment runs of Aqua's story with my run heavily based on Fragmaster01's notes, with slight variations. I was just curious as to whether there were others actively working on this game still.

I also wanted to share a trick I found with Jaq's escort quest. I know Elren mentioned earlier in the topic about skipping the third/fourth spawns, but I found that you can actually prevent all spawns except for the initial group of 3 floods.

Oh, and towards Fragmaster01: I was curious what version PSP/memory stick you were using during your segmented Terra runs if you don't mind sharing. As I watched them, I saw that your load times were significantly quicker than mine (just the first load screen after character selection is ~10 seconds longer on my psp).

Good find!

I used a 3 series PSP, because the 1 series I had wouldn't do audio/video out. You're probably on a 2 series if you're running slower. Also, if you're running off the UMD, don't. Dump the ISO and run it off the memory card. It's all in the name of speeeeed!

Anyway, for Aqua, note that her run technically isn't over at her final boss. You'll have 2 more segments(the notes should be somewhere in this thread) dealing with Terranort. How fast your Terra/Ventus saves are doesn't matter, but you do need to include the Terranort fight for it to be a full Aqua run. If you're really into it, you could also add the secret episode by making a final mix save that's identical to the save after Terranort, and run that.
Thanks for the quick response Fragmaster01. I am using a 3000 series (it's actually the one that came bundled with BBS). However, I run the game from the UMD because I'd like to adhere to the guidelines for SDA if I ever decide on trying to submit a run and from what I can tell based on the threads it came up in, running the ISO from the memory stick isn't acceptable, especially because it causes such a large difference in load times for this game. If I am incorrect on this matter though, then I'll probably look into doing that.

I also assumed that the Final Episode would be considered separate from just a pure Aqua story run, but if that's the case then I'll definitely start taking that into consideration.

Not a bad run, from your youtube videos. My thoughts:

If you put your Cure spell in the first command slot, you can just hit Left to bring it up in battle, rather than trying to fish through your deck for it.
Triple Firaga is made from Firaga + Firaga, for extra attack. You can probably whip one up before Vanitas 2. Its Abounding Crystal meld gives you XP Chance(double XP when in critical HP), which can help if you do a segmented run to manipulate a second one.
The XP curve is a little off, but I never got around to experimenting with other routes. Perhaps try doing the forced Olympus fight before Deep Space? (You'll still need to finish Deep Space before trying the tournament, but still.) Also, go back to Deep Space when you're done with that and level a bit more for Neverland. Vanitas 2 takes way too long.
So I decided to try speedrunning this game. What mode should I be playing on and what game should I do it on? (BBS English, BBSFM - Japanese etc) Also, if I were to do BBSFM, does having the English patch matter?

If you do Final Mix, the english patch is not allowed for SDA, as it's a game mod. What you can do, however, is run the main game on BBS English, then make an identical save on FM and take off the english patch to run the Secret Episode. You don't actually do any menu work in the Secret Episode.
Well I only have FM available on ISO, but I do have English on UMD.

So just an update on my Aqua runs:

I've made some changes to the route, cutting out the visit to the Land of Departure. This means I have to get a shimmering crystal drop sometime throughout the run (preferably by the first olympus fight) but I'm personaly fine with that.
I've been messing around with experience and still need to work on comparing whether to visit Olympus before Deep Space or not (with the latter 2 fights in Deep Space being affected by Stitch's help, it can skew the times a bit).
A viewer on my stream also suggested a move for the second Vanitas fight and it worked wonders. Vanitas 2 is vulnerable to ignite and it destroys him. I've gone from taking 2.5-3 minutes to being able to get under 1 minute fights if he doesn't dodge too many ignites. I'm still working on messing with different meldings and cutting out some later fira's.
If you equip Air Slide just after getting it so it levels up during Olympus, it decreases how many uses are needed to do that skip in Neverland (from 5-6 uses to 4).

I'm posting my current PB to show the route itself. Pay no attention to the boss fights and a lot of the lesser battles. Pretty much every one of them went horribly to meh except for Gantu. This was also my second run in over a week of not playing, so it's just really rusty in general but I wanted an example of the route and the vanitas + ignite fight.
Also - I hate Raging Storm so much. It has a 10% chance to spawn normally instead of Firaga, 100% if on track for a PB. This has happened in my last 2 or 3 PBs.

(One of my splitters came loose while I was streaming, so the entire video is in mono. Sorry for that one.)

One last thing that I wanted to mention, since it hasn't been in this thread yet even though it's probably known: If you're working on individual character runs, be sure it's on an SD card without a system data that has more than 1 character completed. This can skip the 2 extra cutscenes at the end of Disney Town. I only recently realized this when I started using a secondary SD card for doing attempts. This is why, for now, I'm not including the Final Episode in my Aqua runs. To have access to the Final Episode save, it would add those 2 extra cutscenes (~20-25 seconds with my loading times). Once I have a non-Final Episode time that I'm comfortable with, I'll probably start adding it.

Good stuff! I still think it would be faster to do the initial Coliseum forced fight before Deep Space, but ah well. The extra fight after Coliseum and Ignite helped a lot with Vanitas 2.
Yeah, I want to eventually test that but because Stitch can impact the time so much (I've had him change the times on Gantu by +-1 minute or more) that I feel like I would need to do a large number of trial runs each way (from disney town until neverland) and average their times so that Stitch's impact should become negligible. And for now I don't have the time available to do that.

The extra Coliseum fight to insure level 18 for Vanitas 2 is really nice. The fight is usually a good deal quicker but, you know, Raging Storm eating a Fire Boost. Also, if this wasn't apparent from the video - ignite can't kill Vanitas. It can bring him to 1(?) health but you have to use a different skill/attack to finish the battle.

The next big thing I'd like to work on is the Jaq escort that I showed earlier. I just can't seem to find a way to consistently manipulate Jaq's behavior. Right now I've just been trying to recreate how I did it in the sample video when I do a run and just hope Jaq wants to be nice but that rarely seems to happen.

Is Raging Storm really a bad command? Not familiar with it. Also, if you get your Firagas high enough, you could pop a Triple Firaga, for more pewpew goodness. It may seem weird, but it really is faster to be ahead of the XP curve in BBS. Taking the time to shoot enemies with Fission Firaga on the way to Vanitas 1, fighting Coliseum forced early, that'll help.
The problem with Raging Storm is that by that time, the only things left to use it on are Vanitas 2, Braig and Vanitas-Ventus, all of which move around way too much for Raging Storm to be effective (not nearly as much damage as the two firagas in those slots would do). If I meld it from one of the pre-olympus fights firagas, then I do use it in those fights (it does wonders against the jellyfish), but this one came from my third firaga, which was just after those fights and effectively useless.

As for Triple Firaga, my melded Firaga commands only reach level 2 by the end of the last Olympus battle before going to Neverland (and of course gain no experience from there on out) and the purchased ones stay level 1. This would mean I would have to either farm enough to get the melded to max level (so I don't lose the fire boost/magic haste) or the purchased ones to level 3 before using them. I don't see the amount of grinding necessary to do that to be worth it.
Was wondering if anybody worked on the Final Mix version with using NG+(Getting the bonuses at the beginning for having a BBS JPN save). I was able to get a time of 1:26 with Aqua and 1:41 with Ven on stream recently. Ven's can be improved by a lot. I was mostly looking to see if anybody used all of the munnies that you get in a different way.
