You can change a file's date/time with simple free software, just google for it. And a source file goes UP TO 3,9gb, so the last file won't be that big. When I'm doing a ss run I end up having two source files, one is 3,9gb (ends somewhere in the middle of chamber 16) and the other one is like 3,2gb-3,6gb. Basically you can easily just make the run in two segments (beginning - chamber 16; chamber 17 - end) and then merge the last part of chamber 16 with the second segment.
A IL table for this game sounds brilliant though.
edit: I just thought about recording all the way till the end of the credits. That would leave me with 3 source files and all gameplay footage would be in the first two 3,9gb ones.
It's impossible that you record at 60fps then, normally at 60fps fraps would split every 2-3 minutes and its half that with 30 fps.
depends entirely on the resolution ajax, i know I record at half size (from 1280x1024) and I had 2 splits (for 3 files) in my run (about 4 mins slower) while recording credits.
Ok, I'm done with the ss. 18:05 is the final time. I won't be submitting it because of the legitimacy issues (I'll keep the source and demo files just in case, though). I'll post it as soon as I finish encoding.
I'm planing a segmented run, can anyone tell me if the quality of this test segment is good enough for the final run? My processor is a bit old, but maybe it's enough.
Great run. I note you do chamber 2 a little different - after you put the cube on the button and are waiting for the portal to the door to appear, if you stand at the back wall of the little room, and start ABH'ing towards the portal right before it changes, you can exit the portal with much higher speed and save a second or so.

I think it's ok. A little more frames per second at the game would be nice, but if you say your PC is a bit old it's okay. Or is this demo bug yet fixed? If yes, maybe someone else can record this on a high resolution using your demo files. But I hope you won't encode your final run (only) as WMV. I'd encode it to AVI/XviD and MP4/h264.
PS: Will you do the same tricks at chamber 13-18 like the people did at the challenge maps? (Like chamber 14 in 4 seconds with 3 portals)

Here's my 18:05 run. Without the mistakes and with some luck it could get sub 18:xx.
18 minutes is crazy. But sub 18 minutes? Wow! I wonder how fast a segmented run will be...
Note that at ~4:14 in the video I don't rush towards the elevator because it always starts moving when glados finishes talking, no matter when you get there. Also at ~6:12 I'm waiting so long before going through the portal with the cube because even if you can see that the portal did change to the location I shoot it at in the next room, the cube tends to dissapear when you try to get through it. This happend to me alot. Another ss killer is the orb in the first hallway in chamber 17. You can also see how nervous I was during the escape levels, but somehow I never fucked up a ss there, even if that happens to me alot during practice. God...

Technically it would save time if I'd abh all the way from the wall to the elevator trigger without getting stuck on the little steps ,which happens like 10% of the time. I only saved myself some hundreds of restarts, doing it my way :P.

I recorded it without demos, only with fraps, like my test compilation. The compilation goes until chamber 13 and i have 14 in another seperate short video, i didnt get the 3-seconds-trick yet, its so difficult, even with host_timescale 0.2 I did it with 6 seconds yet.
The frames were arount 20-25 when recording, I'm buying a dual-core in the next weeks and record it again and maybe with another codec and not just with windows movie maker
I'll keep on training without record until I get that new processor...^^or the demos are getting finally fixed, there are not good enough yet I think...

Looks nice imo. Did you record chamber 1-13 in one segment? You should try ABHing. It's a very useful timesaver as you can see in groobo's Portal runs.

groobo, mind encoding/uploading a "hd" version to filefront or similar host?
No it's segmented, i recorded from one loading screen to the next and then put all the videos together. I already tried ABHing but somehow I don't get it I tried it but either I get slower or I keep the same speed, can somebody explain it for me again? Normal BHing is no problem for me, but with crouching and stuff its more difficult...
There won't be a "final version", I'm done with portal. I just wanted to find some shortcuts and shit, not speedrun it. I knew that a ss couldn't be 100% proven (because of the broken demos) and segmenting/il'ing just isn't right, this game is made for a ss.

It's impossible to abh without some kind of macro like ahk, in real time.

well, I don't think I'm as good as grobbo, but eventually I plan on bringing out a SS. using all those timesavers, I can probably get around 18.xx or so in a couple weeks.

Have you already spoken with Mike about what he thinks you need to do to have it verified? I'm afraid I don't know what all the fuss is about, there are tons of pc games that are up that could potentially be "faked." I think you're worrying over nothing. You're active in this post, you've shown you know what you're doing, you've posted many videos for us to look at -- I don't see why he'd have cause to doubt you if you sent him your run.
If you haven't opened up a dialog with Mike, it would be a shame to just assume he won't take it. I know I've been enjoying watching your progress, and would love to see something posted, I'm sure there are many others as well.
I have already spoken with Mike and from what I understood recording myself while doing the run with a webcam is the best way to prove its legitimacy.

Haha, I don't think I even have to comment on this one.
Anyway, I can submit it but I assume it depends on the verifiers if they will accept it or not. So whoever will verify it either belives me or he doesn't, because there's no solid proof. Another problem would be that I only have the demos atm, I got rid of the source files.
