Cody, if you need any hosting send me a pm on HIH's forums, I'll setup a suki-janai account for you to upload to. Something like 50gig/month bandwidth that I haven't been using in AGES.
It's a lot easier if you start with the blue portal on the opposite wall cause then you'll be launched up towards the high floor and won't have 180 to shoot the portal on there. However, then you land up on the high floor and it takes longer to fall down as opposed to hitting a wall and then falling down.
If you could some how hit the wall a little lower where you can put a portal and then launch through that way I think it would take you up high enough to put the portal next to the door.

Lowest FPS ever!!! But very impressive strat indeed.
Hmm... it appears that instead of a demo recording persisting through level changes, it just ends that demo and starts a new one at the beginning of next level.
Assuming this doesn't change when the demo recording is fixed, theres no way to verify that a run truly is single segment. Does this mean Fraps or somethign similiar has to be used?
I've come up with an even faster way for the last room. Basically instead of hitting the wall and falling down, then launching out the high floor. You go through a portal on the high diagonal door and launch out the high floor. You barely get high enough for the last shot though and it's a very small target. I don't think I could do the whole sequence in real time. I could prolly make a half speed video of it though. That last shot is just such a small target.
There's still a faster way I've posted in a demo on like page 3 or so.
In the hall before you even step foot in there, do a floor/ceiling portal and get falling momentum, get a lucky shot on the checkered floor and you get a vertical leap over it. Then since you don't have the forward momentum towards the next acid/moving platform hallway, just shoot a portal from a distance, and use the wall directly to your right once you get over the forcefield from the previous room.
Gah, just lost a near-perfect SS to a stupid glitch that's come up once or twice - anyone know how to prevent it?
In the escape level, after the room with the 3 robots, you go into one of the robot's rooms and portal to a similiar room with another robot. Then that door opens and you have to fling yourself off that open door and onto a platform.
Well, a few times, the door has opened too much, and is nearly horizontal. No matter how I setup the fling, the door launches me almost straight up, and I can't get on that ramp. Has anyone had this happen?
Yeah, that happened to me before. Although the door did open like it always does but I still got boosted straight into the ceiling and back into the portal.
Do you record your SS runs using demos or fraps? I thought about a ss run myself but we should make sure if Mike's going to allow demos. Even if they fix them the game starts recording a new demo after each chamber, so there's no way to prove that it was done in a ss, like you mentioned before.
I'm using Fraps. I changed my Fraps capture directory to my D drive (portal is installed on my C drive) and, along with my recent reformat, it fixed my performance issues. I'm running at 1024x768 with max everything and 4xAA and my fps never drops below 100 while frapsing, so the quality of the run should be great.
There's one trick though that I am not including in the run - during testchamber... I think 5, the one with the floating ball and the acid floor, you can set a portal on the far wall and hop across a brick to the end. I can only get it about 20% of the time, so I can't rely on it for a SS. Everything else is great though, it definetly would get gold on every challenge stage if I don't make any mistakes.
I tried a couple runs with the bhop, but its hard, you gotta be quick to turn around and bat away the orb. Plus I'm so bad at keeping the cube after wallclimbing its ridiculous.
I just finished one, but I'm not 100% happy with it, not sure if I will submit it. I made a couple mistakes - most notably was missing a fling twice in one of the early chambers (fling revisited, right after the orange portal gun). Portal just got patched, and I guess as a side-effect, Portal funnel was turned back on, and messed me up good. I also missed an easy fling in chamber 15, (i actulaly missed 2, but one didn't cost me any time, because I had to wait for the ball to bounce anyways). I missed one rocket on glados, and also got a less-than-perfect 'final big room' run.
And I did cap the... ending
I'll put it on google video. Total time from the beginning to the final hit on Glados is about 23 minutes, including loading screens. I'll see if anyone thinks I should submit it to SDA though, I really don't like the mistakes I made, but I've never done a SS before, so I don't know what's forgivable.
Oh... also, fraps ALWAYS stops recording for me in two places (loading screen between 18 and 19, and loading screen before 'big room'). I made sure to press record again as soon as the loading screen ended, but there will be a noticable 'chop'.
The quality is rough, and for some reason google video cut out the sound, and theres some places where the video slows down for some reason, but in the original capture files, everythings fine. Whatever, if this gets submitted, it'll have better compression work behind it.
