Waiting hurts my soul...
This is the next game I'm running. It's easy and strangely enjoyable. There are a couple of run killers late in the run (Togekiss and Mew), but I've been working on getting them a little more consistent. 3D movement with the d-pad is a terrible idea, add in precise jumping and it's a nightmare to speed through.

This will be an any% SS, and current estimate is 2 to 2.5 hours. 100% is way too much, and would be very boring for me, as you have to beat (get the bonus on) each attraction with every friend possible (est. 280 total mini-games) in order to recruit additional pokemon, not to mention befriending every pokemon (110 more than in an any% run); I'd say it'd be about another 8 - 9 hours to 100% the game.

The only thing I'm trying to figure out is what extra pokemon to befriend. I've timed most friends and found the best ones I believe. I don't expect many people to have played this game, and it's a bit of long shot to hope anyone has and is willing to help with some questions below, but I'd be remiss if I didn't check before completing a run to submit.

Speedrunning Info:
Upgrade as soon as possible to max level; however, it's not worth it to play additional games to get berries in order to upgrade sooner.

Dashing Test (Testing done from one end of the meadow zone to the other):
Dash level 0: 35 seconds, with double dash: 24 seconds
Dash level 1: 31 seconds, with double dash: 23 seconds
Dash level 2: 26 seconds, with double dash: 22 seconds
Dash level 3: 22 seconds, with double dash: 21 seconds

Double dash doesn't seem to matter too much after maxing dash, but there's no way dash will be maxed before finishing the lava zone, so it'll have to be learned.

All other abilities come second to dash, so they aren't worth upgrading.
In Granite Zone, jump from the switch that opens the secret door to the other side. This would skip the three code words. Some extra friends would be necessary, but I still think it'd be worth it to skip all of that running around and backtracking. I'm able to jump from the other side to the switch (after I've opened the gate with the code words), but I've yet to be able to make it back. It looks like there may be an invisible wall, but the camera is at the wrong angle to really tell.
It's possible for some pokemon to meet the goal, but still fall below the bonus threshold. It takes 3 - 4 seconds to display the bonus screen. At least in Absol's game, it's faster for Ponyta to get slower than its bonus.

SDA Apprentice -- (3-1)
Should I be concerned if I actually have played this game?  Actually, don't answer that; I'll be happy to see if I can help in the planning anyway I can.

It has been sometime since I've played this game, and if I recall correctly I think there was certain requirements in order to proceed forward...

For power ups (as you already know) works the same way as a pokemon fight where I think thunderbolt is very effective against those who are weak to thunder.  If that's the case then it can help to invest in it.  As for if doing the minigames help to boost your stats and thus makes things faster is hard to say.  On one hand, some of the minigames are incredibly short, thus doing a bit of farming can't hurt but other games would take a bit too long to perform and thus wouldn't be worth it.  For that switch, I don't think I've ever been able to join towards it, granted you are welcome to try and see if it is possible, but I don't believe so.

Let me doublecheck a few faqs and see if something can be written up in regards of a route plan...

Edit: Also I forgot to add that if whenever possible, when making friends, find those friends that are better at the minigames than pikachu whenever possible.  Granted that pikachu can do a great job on any minigame he is able to do, but sometimes, a friend can do a better job.  Again, I'll work on that planning when I get the chance tomorrow...

The requirements for proceeding forward are having a certain number of friends. Certain games can't be played until you meet that number, and some pokemon can't be befriended until you have a certain number of friends, or certain friends in the current area; both of those types of pokemon don't seem to be worth it to recruit. For making progress here are the friend requirements: Gyarados (25), Bastiodon (50), Rotom (65), Salamence (80).

Unfortunately the developers didn't include weaknesses, only immunities. So, thunderbolt will always do the same amount of damage unless the pokemon absorbs it. Increasing dash to max and thunderbolt to max are the only times their damage increases. There's nothing I've found that is immune to dash or iron tail. Iron tail would require extra training time, but it does more damage than dash after level 1.

When choosing friends, the things I'm paying attention to are the time they take to recruit (so far it seems most take 30 - 50 seconds), if they're useful for an event, and how many berries I get for them. One thing to limit are the pokemon that unlock other pokemon since that's just additional wasted time if I don't plan to recruit the new pokemon.

Bulbasaur: 1st time, only Pikachu; 2nd time, Turtwig
Venusaur: Croagunk
Pelliper: Spearow
Gyarados: Bibarel (Golduck was an option; however, I'd have to do hide & seek with Psyduck)
Empoleon: Glalei (fastest character I can get)
Bastiodon: Pikachu (easy to get goal and low bonus)
Rhyperior: Pikachu (easy to get goal and low bonus)
Blaziken: Pikachu (easy to get goal and low bonus)
Tangrowth: Raichu (fastest I have) (side note: I feel like someone messed up on the times because they are so easy to beat)
Dusknoir: Cranidos (fastest I can get)
Rotom: Abra (Haunter can skip the Bonus easily, Haunter takes too long to recruit, and I need the berries)
Absol: Ponyta (Easy to get and to skip the bonus)
Salamence: Togekiss (I don't have anyone else, so bonus is a must)
Rayquaza: Absol (Easier to avoid the orbs than Rhyperior)

Waiting hurts my soul...
I'm sure there are very few people interested, but I'm getting closer to a final run. I just did another test where I had the route mostly done. Some pauses throughout, but final time was 2:31, which is close to my estimate. I think I'd accept something close to 2:25. Hopefully this finds verifiers eventually.

So, I somehow missed Pichu during this last run... and Diglet. So, it seems I can drop Pichu.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I'm hoping to finish a run soon, probably before the end of the month. I just got a 2:30 (actually 2:32, but I took a 2 minute break), which wasn't too bad. Probably a couple of minutes can come off from getting the 100 berries on Venusaur (missed it this time, so I didn't have level 3 dash in granite), skipping a pokemon (got an extra one some how), bad Shinx and Azuril spawns, and some bad fights. I'll definitely submit something 2:28 or under.

Waiting hurts my soul...
Well, not much progress. Going for 2:30 without breaks is a bit harder than I imagined. I should have more time this weekend and next, and I'm getting really close. I had a run going last night that was on track to meet 2:28 at worst (3 minutes ahead of my 2:31 at 1:30 in), and it included some bad luck (got a gold ore) and minor mistakes (talking to pokemon multiple times, needing to search for pokemon), yet it also had some quick battles and some pokemon were much closer than I thought they could be. It ended at a quiz where I got the last question wrong (need to remember Torchic is the one you battle and Vulpix is the one you chase). With luck, and optimized play, I'm fairly sure 2:25 is near the limit of this route, but I'll be happy with a 2:27 as long as it doesn't include me falling off any obstacle courses, failing battles, or failing quizes.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I now have a 2:28 recorded, which had a lot of little luck related things go worse than I've ever seen (Mawile was at the other end of the map behind the pillar where I couldn't see her at first, drifloon was hiding where I couldn't find a single one), and a few mistakes of my own (bad Croagunk fight, Mawile snapped me twice, forgot the correct order to unlock the book in the library (checked the shelf then talked to sableye instead of duskull then sableye), lost a battle to Blastoise, fell once each on Togekiss' and Mew's obstacles costing at least 10 seconds total, among other things). I also found that I'm actually 70 berries short for level 3 dash after Haunted Zone, so I'm going to add in some crates to compensate, which will add about 30 - 35 seconds, but saves me time in the Blastoise and Electrivire battles and generally running around Granite Zone.

Some route notes:
Definitely need to get Staravia to count as an ice zone skill test, even if it's battled in the Beach Zone, it still counts.
I didn't really notice before but all of the freebie friends don't give berries.
Collect 70 more berries, bunch of crates in the lava zone.

I could submit this, but with the ugly mistakes, I think it'd be hard to justify it, especially when it's more like a 2:28:01-2 judging from the timer on the DVD player. So, I'm still aiming for 2:27 so long as it doesn't include failing battles, quizes, or generally getting lost; hopefully no falling from obstacle hops would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath on those.
Waiting hurts my soul...
I just had an abysmal 2:31... I know I haven't updated since I haven't played in months. I'm setting aside Sunday nights for speedrunning now though, so I'm picking this back up again. I'm actually amazed at how much I remembered about the run.

Next weekend I'll try to figure out x-split and some timer program; I think it makes it more involving for viewers to see how well (or poorly) I'm doing. I definitely need to brush up on the quizes again. I failed teddyursa's three times :(, and stumbled through some of the others. I'm not sure where all I lost the most time, but some battles were just ugly as well.

My next update here will be to announce a run is submitted, however long that takes, unless anyone has questions (which I doubt). Mainly updating this for posterity, and in case anyone new is interested. Nothing in the route seems to need changing. I'm considering getting Octillery after the chairlift to see if he talks less down there.

Can you believe I made an account to post on this site?  For this thread?  I love this game, and what got me here was a search for the best speedruns for this game.  I thought about doing one, and my first shot at it was interesting.  I already know all required friends, and it's entirely possible to beat the game without acquiring any friends that help you in attractions.  That having been said, I'm curious if getting these faster Pokémon (and consequently the bonus) would slow things down, or would actually be faster, or would be the same speed?  In some attractions it really wouldn't matter, like Rayquaza's balloon panic, since you aren't beating the clock, but since bonuses only add about 3-5 seconds to the run, there are cases where if you're fast enough, those extra seconds wouldn't matter.  With Pikachu, for example, in Bulbasaur's daring dash, you can get below 7 seconds in the dash.  And the fastest you can get under that is 5.26 with Scyther.  I don't remember the bonus times, but in this case I belive it was far under, like a good 7-9 seconds, in which case bonuses are faster.  Just a thought.  My best so far (with three gold nuggets in a row, and a few places I didn't take the best path) is 3:58.  However, I also didn't skip any cutscenes.  But yeah.  I'm going to practice a bit.

Edit: Oh, and by the way, the fastest way to do  xTangroth's Swing along is by getting the bonus.  Even with Pikachu alone, you can do it in 7.38, the absolute fastest (before beating the game) is Ambipom,, where you can do just under Pikachu's time.  How?  On the second swing, always hit B fast enough to stay on the bottom of each rope so you never slow down.

Waiting hurts my soul...
I'm not sure I follow your idea for bonuses. All attractions are completed with bonuses early on for berries because doing it slower adds more time than would be saved not getting the bonus. I think the only time that's not true is Absol's game. Even then it's about equal (~1 second... 2 if timed perfectly), so why not just go as fast as possible. It's an old idea that really didn't pan out.

I don't remember cutscenes being skippable, unless you mean the traveling ones.

I have a 2:28 recorded where I was about 40 berries short and needed to scramble to buy the third dash. Let me know a good time you're available and I'll stream it for you. 2:25 is an acceptable goal for a final time.
Ah, alright.  Old ieas indeed can be bad.  As for the stream, it might be good to see it tomorrow.  Today is iffy, but I'll let you know if that changes.  I'm in the process of checking everything about PokePark 2 to possibly speedrun it too.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Here's the highlight: http://www.twitch.tv/zenicreverie/b/423616380

I'm trying to put it on YouTube, but I don't think Twitch has fixed their inability to put up long videos.
Hi, I've been getting into running the game for about a week now, my route is a lot different that yours since I went for the "trigger as less cutscenes as possible" without taking into account the berries, as well as I try to learn Iron Tail as soon as possible, here is my route: http://pastebin.com/E1gRMNYs

I've made a couple of small changes in pokemons since I wrote that, so I may have some extra friends I forgot to delete from the route
Waiting hurts my soul...
So, I apparently deleted the full list of times to get each pokemon. That's what those numbers in the parenthesis mean by each optional friend. I'll go back through and time again.

I found iron tail didn't offer any extra damage unless upgraded, and the berries were more useful for getting dash three. I don't think there are extra cutscenes in the route I drew up, but let me know if you see any improvements to it. When estimating the time it took to get friends I believe I added the cutscene for friends appearing as well.

I do remember avoiding Oddish and Psyduck since they were the only hide-n-seek pokemon (Bonsly in the first area does, but you avoid that one already), and the explanation for that plus the randomness involved had a chance of adding too much time.

I think that's all the comments I have for the route. Without having solid times on how long it takes to talk/beat/catch/gain control again after each friend, I can't really say for certain one friend is better to get than another.
I will do a run with your route to compare it to mine and see how my skill level fares on both routes, and yes, looking at your route you have less battles after the iceberg zone that I do, so Iron Tail doesn't seem usefull in that

I go for both Oddish and Psyduck because they have really easy hide spots, and if I get luck the spots are almost as fast as getting Caterpie and Slowpoke, same with Bonsly and Sudowoodo in the Cavern Zone, their best spots is just one dash away, and the worse is 2 dashes away at max
I've been watching this thread for a couple of months now. I have played PokePark 1, and I have also played PokePark 2: Wonder's Beyond and have done a few speedruns of it. I was wondering if anybody here has tried speedrunning PokePark 2 and might know routes or glitches. There is not a thread for PokePark 2, so I wanted to check here for people interested. I know the game mechanics of PokePark 1 and 2 are very similar so whatever is found in 1 is probably in 2.

Are there any known glitches in PokePark 1? There is one glitch in PokePark 2 that really doesn't have a speedrunning use but might be useful in PokePark 1.

Hopefully we can work together to improve speedruns of both games.

I found a use for the OoB I use it to warp to the entrance of the area after getting Snivy back near the end of the game, it saves around 10 seconds

EDIT: I've also been working with Pokepark Wii and found some weird stuff with the ingame timer, it is usually around 2 and a half minute slower than RTA, i.e. RTA 2:26:25 = IGT 2:29, but I did a run the other day that was RTA: 2:31 and the ingame time was 2:42
Waiting hurts my soul...
Haven't played the second game, but there's no character swapping in the first one, so the same glitch probably won't work.

I guess a thread for Pokepark 2 is needed ... Unless we continue to post about it here.

I haven't played the first Pokepark yet , but found some interesting glitches on the second one ( I just noticed my OoB video has been posted on this thread already lol.)

Its possible to enter Cove Town early , but like you can see on the video it doesn't save time for speedrunning Undecided
actually, if done first try it does save some time near the end of the game, a couple of seconds but is something

That's better than nothing then , but doing that glitch first try is gonna be tricky.
I got a 2:27 the other day: , I lost about a minute thanks to bad pokemon locations plus 30 or so seconds for bad excecution, I think it can go as low as 2:24, but 2:25 seems like a reasonable time
