I started my own little speedrun on the emulater...just doing it for fun. I'll write my time after each gym leader.

Version: Blue
Strategy: Squirtle + Zapdos (maybe...we'll see; I think I'll save before the E4 and try it WITH and then without Zapdos and see how the times compare)

After Brock, healed, and went to the mart for items, ready to go to Mt. Moon: 16:00
I only had 2 Wild Pokemon to run away from the entire segment.

Before 2nd Gary, 32 mins...eww. Mt. Moon is so random and I had a bad draw or something because I had to run from like 20+ battles. Quite frustrating. I fought the Hiker since he has easy rock guys.

Cleared out the bridge, went to Bill (took out all 3 hikers of course), caught a bird for fly later (one tackle + one ball = caught!) and then went back, healed up, then owned Misty's gym + both her trainers with bite. Time: 52:00

*EDIT* Got dig, caught a plant before the S.S. Anne town (I stepped onto the ship @ 0:58), got the rare candy, got cut, got the bike voucher, saved before Surge's Gym @ 1:04.

BTW, speaking of rare candies, is it ideal to save all of them for the end? I used the first two straight away for the 2nd Gary fight...but maybe that was a waste.

I used Rare Candies as soon as I got them.

Another double post, boy it sure is my day today.  :-[

I reached Celadon City in 90 minutes.  So if anyone wants an idea of how fast I went, there it is.
welcome to the machine

I got into Celadon @ 1:20. I did not go into the grass gym; I just got the icebeam, fly, the extra drink (I also bought two calciums to raise Wartortle's special...dunno if it's worth the time or not, but I have lots of cash so hey, why not?). I went down to game corner, did everything super fast, got the candy, got the scope, dug myself back to lavender and saved at 1:33.

Did Poke Tower, Grass Gym -- saved in front of east Snorlax @ 1:49

Saved in Poke after beating Koga (also did safari and got strength + surf) = 2:01.

Saved after saving Silph Co. and beating Sabrina = 2:17.

Saved after Blaine's gym = 2:26.

*EDIT* Saved after Giovanni = 2:31.
I would save them.  When you hit the Elite 4, the EXP needed to reach the next level is high, so an instant level up is nice.

Using Zapdos, I got a time of 3:02. I might look for a GBP + a blue cart and try this out...hehe. Things I would change in my run:

- not pick up random TMs or items like hp up, protein, carbos, etc...only calcium. Actually, I'm not even sure about that; can anyone confirm if calcium is worth it? I mean, would 3-4 extra special points make a big difference?

- better item/menu management, probably would save up to 4-5 mins

- save the thunderbolt TM for Zapdos (didn't realize he started with the weaker thundershock - I had to make a small sidetrip and get Thunder, which has really bad accuracy...).

- save the first two rare candies like I did all the others

- I think I would use blizzard instead of icebeam (mainly for Gary's Venusaur; of course, if it misses then I'm really screwed! And Zapdos's drill peck does a nice job as well, but vine whip just owns so hardcore).

Then I could easily see me getting 2:55 or below.

*EDIT* Oh yeah, and do a segment just for the dumb Mt. Moon area...I had WAAAYY too many random encounters, but I took it away. That's another minute or two.
I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
I don't know about Blastoise, but Nidoking gets easy OHKOs without using candies before the League, and some are barely OHKO'd at the league WITH all extra levels, so I'll definitly save all candies for the end.

On my third run, which was supposed to be my first real attempt, I got a bad nido (low speed and special) so Starmie owned me.

I'll do one more with King, and then I'll try Blastoise. How's the kadabra variant going?
Do you know the Muffin Man?
Slow :p will be finishing exams today at 3pm. Wish me luck! Life is sure hard to juggle :p
Jack of all Trades
I doubt either will be faster than just using Squirtle...you never have to stop or slow down with him. Getting Zapdos takes like one minute.

I might do another speed run, mainly to capitalize on the mistakes I made.  Or maybe I'm just too lazy.

Better yet, I might do a speed run on my Pokemon Gold.
Dude, Gold is long.. do you mean to just beat the elite 4, or to do the Kanto (original, right?) map too? Cos Ash has some kickin' pokemon at the end, and you are going to be fighting that stupid Snorlax for hours unless you something that OHKO's >_<

Marsh, did you get any repels? Those caves have hideous encoutner rates =/

It's good seeing several people pushing 3 hours flat. So squirtle!
Jack of all Trades
Of course I used repels. But they aren't available, to my knowledge, before Mt. Moon.

Yep. Ok, I just got my GBP today, so I'm going to start a run today. I should be able to finish this run very quickly. I'm going to do about 1/3 of it today. BTW, I'm doing red version.

EDIT: Ok, just finished my first segment in 12 minutes. I saved right in front of Brock, before fighting him. I buy 10 potions and 1 pokeball before entering the jym.

Not much else, except, when I enter Oak's Lab for the first time, very weird music plays, it's real trippy. It's so trippy that I get a little off course when going to get squirtle.

EDIT #2: OMG, I just had the best Mt. Moon run ever! I got into about 5 random battles in all, no joke. Too bad it was a practice run, because it ain't getting better than what I just did. I had a level 20 Warturtle right before Gary, fully healed, in 27 minutes.

I hope I can get a run that good again. I think I can, since I did it on my second practice run.
I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
I've tried Blastoise for a while, and I noticed a distinct lack of OHKOs in the beggining. Though I'll have to finish before I know if it's faster than Nidoking (which it may very well be), it still feels bad to not OHKO everything with Thrash. I'll be saving all candies for the end, as Blastoise isn't super effective against everything.

After you get bubblebeam and dig you'll be rolling in the OHKO department (before that, water gun and bite are good sometimes too).
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah, Kanto would be a pain in the ass.  I'm thinking of doing a run where I just beat the E4.  If I was going to battle Red/Ash, I'd probably have to trade a Mewtwo or something to my Gold.
Ben Goldberg
Ok, I just finished my second part. I did just what I did in my practice run, but got a slower time of 28 minutes right before Gary. The practice run was so lucky it would take forever to get a run that good again. Note to self, record practice runs from now on.

Anyways, I get in about 10 random battles in Mt. Moon, so that's why it's slower. One other thing I'm not too happy about is when I'm getting that rare candy on the ground, I take like 10 seconds to get it. It's preety stupid, I know, but it's going to have to do for now. The fighting was preety good.

Time to practice my next segment. This segment's going to be annoying, thanks to Gary's sand blast thingie. I hate that move, and pokemon that can poison me.

MGS for PS1 forever.
Even though I have only played about 2 minutes of a pokemon game and I don't even remember which one, I'm looking forward to watching a speedrun of any of them.

BTW, how many pokemon games are out...not including snap and the other n64 ones?

Pokemon Red, Blue, Yellow, Pinball, Gold, Silver, Sapphire, Ruby, FireRed, Leaf Green, a second pinball one, I think, Snap, Pokemon Stadium 1 and 2, Coluiseum, and I think there's a platinum or something coming out.  Hey You, Pikachu, Pokemon Channel... anything else?  I think Pokemon Box, but eh.

Some of those aren't really games :). About half of them are RPGs ("the good stuff"), the others are just gimmicks intended to milk the franchise for all its worth >=)

From the RBY era, there is also a Green version. It has Venusaur on the cover (RB have Charizard and Blastoise).

From the GS era, there is also a Crystal version (it's G and S combined.. you can get both Houou and Lugia in it, and the legendary cats are easier to catch).

From RS, there's Emerald. It's only just coming out in English, but the Jap one has been out for ages.
Also tenkiforecast
Emerald is coming out in the US in about a week. I already know everything about it. *thanks serebii.net*

also, please don't use "Jap". it's offensive.

Emerald isn't too different from the other games except the G/S/C pokes you couldn't find in FR/LG that were in Colosseum, are now found in the safari zone, and there is another "Battle Frontier" place. and Pickup is changed.
what about Pokemon Puzzle League, that was like my favorite n64 game ever, or at least one of them.
