A side challenge that I'm presenting for anyone interested in pokemon and is extremely hardcore, is to beat my Poke'mon Report Score in Poke'mon snap. I know this is off topic but I just want someone to challenge me, seeing as I have the highest report score I've ever heard of. if anyone is honestly interested and wants to know the individual pic scores, PM me cause I have it all written out.

Report Score:            295630 points

I bought this game for $5 from a second hand store around december last year. Played it for about a week, competing against Matt Flees' ("packattack") scores at Cyberscore. He had played the game for a few weeks sometime in 2004, but I revived his interest to make a comeback. We both swapped some records and strategies for another week after that.

This is one of the most frustrating games I've played. Some pokemon are really random sometimes, and there's a constant feeling of being "ripped off", especially when missing out on WRs by 10 pts because of the sameness score.
I'd definitely watch a pokemon run. RBY are shorter than GS, so that's good news (not shorter than RS, though). I've heard stories of 3-3.5 hours, so I think that's what the speedrunner should aim for.

As far as starter goes, it's obvious that Squirtle is the one. The thing is that you'll grow him a fair bit before Cerulean anyway, so I'd question whether it's really worth ditching him for Abra. Personally, I've never really used Kadabra much, since he lacks offensive moves (need ethers =/), but Blastoise with Surf and IB will slap almost anything even at lower levels (but you want higher levels to have the speed advantage). If you do him solo, you could be ahead of the Elite 4 on levels. Shame about the low PP on those two moves. The other moves are debatable.. maybe Double Team/Dig and Bite (hey, c'mon, you get 40 PP for that!) for most of the game.

Lapras, Tauros or Gyarados will probably pwn everything solo, but they require a fair bit of work/time to get. Of course, we're talking only about the CPU here. Some of these pokemon might be poor choices for 1 vs 1, but the CPU is stupid, so only power and speed matter.

Best of the luck to the guy doing Blastoise/Zapdos Smiley
Also tenkiforecast
Okay, advanced stuff:

Tauros is a good UU poke, with good base stats. Tauntrodos is a devil.  Lapras... in FR/LG is one of the most used poke's. good abality *water absorb* and at least 5 different comptetitive movesets. XD

otherwise: A Blastoise/Thunder *Zapdos* path... might work. Zapdos has the best flying move aside from Aeroblast *Drill Peck rules*, and great special attack. but, like every legendary bird, suffers from No-attack-syndrome.
Hmmm....
The badge control thing only works if the pokemon are traded other than that if you caught them they will listen to you no matter what level the are or what badge you have.

Can somebody tell me what the time of the run is so far.

Thx
Do you know the Muffin Man?
Hm...well if the guy who wrote that speed run did it in 3:07, I don't see why it won't be possible for us to to get a sub 3 hours run...and he spends some time raising a grass pokemon too for misty...

I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
I just finished my test run of my Nido, and here are the final stats.

Got to the Elite with level 57 and 6 Rare Candies. Used them.
Nido at 63.

Gary Beaten:
Nidoking 67
Earthquake
Ice Beam
Surf
Thunderbolt

Play Time: 3:31 (!)
The credits then add 2 minutes, so the save says 3:33. Which strangely reminds me of Eternal Darkness, which I'm currently on the last chapter of... Talk about coincidence. Tongue

Could probably cut down my time by 10 or so minutes easily, by doing less unnecesary stuff, like not picking up lame TMs just so I can drop them later. I did Silph quickly thanks to maps (went to 10th floor for Earthquake, 5th for key and warped from 3rd).

About SS. Anne: I just went directly to Gary, got the HM and left, since I was already above Lt. Surge's levels.

Against the Elite, I just used a few X- items for Lance and Gary for fun, since OHKOs are incredibly fun, they weren't needed I think (at least not on Lance).

The ONLY problem with the run (except for me forgetting Nido got Trash) was that the Brock battle was slow, (and a close call with 3hp and no healing left) because I got Squirtle instead of Charmander. It ruined my strat.

And although Nido male is rare in Blue, I only needed 3 restarts to get it at the first go.
Can we assume that Yellow and Red/Blue are vastly different enough to warrant different runs?
Jack of all Trades
Well, it looks like a Squirtle start and then nabbing Zapdos is the most effecient strategy...kinda makes me want to try that out myself, since I always loved starting with Squirtle. But I can wait for the run, I guess...how soon can someone do one?
Do you know the Muffin Man?
I can only record with pokemon stadium, unfortunately, since I'm very poor (pity me!). And I'm not sure if that is ok yet. Even with Doduo speed, the game clock will still read the same right?

Also, I don't plan on doing my run until this summer when I actually have time >< sigh...I'm behind everyone else.

3:31 is very impressive...I just hope my run idea is just as good. Perhaps my run idea relies too much on leveling up. I hope that doesn't become my downfall :p

Blastoise/Zapdos run looks mighty good right now...but I'm still going to do a solo-kadabra first..maybe tomorrow?

Question, the first scene where you name yourself, is it timed?

EDIT: It does take time, so make sure to pick one of the default names, if you want to be quicker.

I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
I can't record, sadly, though in May I'm getting a GBP for Fusion (and some graphics card, depending on what's available), so then I'll be able to record. That is, unless someone makes a run before me.

For me, writing a 6-letter name adds tops 15 seconds, and it's so much more fun to run around with a custom name.

A few notes on my run:

I never needed to level any extra (fought a few trainers while going to Brock only).

I wasted time in Mt. Moon on side roads since I forgot where the Moon Stone was (right on the main road  :-/ ).
Nido learned Water Gun.

I evolved Nidorino to King after the Nugget Bridge (before Misty) so evolving it even sooner would be prefered, and would save battle time.
Nido learned Thrash.
I forgot to use Thrash a few times, which wasted time.

I used 1 Thrash on Staryu and 2 on Starmie. A critical hit from Bubblebeam = death.
Nido Learned Bubblebeam.

SS. Anne, as I said, was just "Go to Gary, get Cut and leave". The battle with gary consisted of 2 hits on Pidgeotto and Ivysaur, and 1 hit on the rest. I don't remember how it was in Cerulean.
Sandshrew, which I got quickly (should've started with Charmander :/), learned Cut.

Lt. Surge's Gym. Saved inside, found the switch, restarted, went straight to the switch and restarted untill I got the second on my first try. Thrash owned Lt. Surge with OHKOs on all but Raichu (which used Thundershock, rofl).
Nido learned Thunderbolt.

Rock Tunnel: I took a wrong turn once, OHKO'd most enemies with Thrash, bubblebeam and few Thunderbolts.

Got Fly right off the bat, since it saves lots of time overall. Had a pidgey learn it (gottten early on).

Erika before the Secret Base. OHKO'd Victribell, froze Tangela with Ice Beam (just got it from the kid on top of Celadon Dept. Store) and Vileplume took 2 normal hits. They're uneffective.

Secret Base was semi-quick. I was overpowered level-wise, but fought 2 extra battles.

The tower in Lavednder was quick, as I remembered REPEL!!! Gary was easy, and so were everyone else.

Then, Saffron City. Silph was done nearly perfect, with a short time off-route to get Earthquake (bless the elevators :P). Gary, and everyone else, were owned by Nidoking the Elementalist. Fighting pkmn, such as Machoke, took the occasional extra hit through the game.

Sabrina was OHKO heaven with Earthquake and superior speed.

Took bike road to the south, it's faster, and fought few bikers on the way (will avoid them next time, they're a waste).
Koga, too, was owned by Earthquake's sheer power.

I got a bit lost, wasting a minute or two in the park, but it was pretty good. Can repels be used here? I forgot to test.
Nido learned Surf.

Final Moveset aquired.

Squirtle learned Strength.

The fire-house, as I call it, was quick with a great route and repels. 0 trainers iirc.

Blaine's gym was beaten with Surf and Earthquake, though alternating between them more effectivly will help me the next time through.

Giovanni's Gym, too, was easy with those 2 attacks. Ice Beam helped a bit.

Gary was easy.

Trained a bit in Victory Road, mostly a waste I think. Fought 2 worthless trainers.

At the Elite, I used the candies, and you all know what happened. Now I'll start another, even more planned out, run. So I should shave off 10+ minutes. Stand by.

EDIT: I also forgot to get Dig for Sandshrew to escape places quickly. I forgot that I had forgotten this.
I started my Blastoise/Zappy run today.
The only major parts I've done so far are the 2 Gary battles and Surge's gym puzzle.  The first Gary battle went great; I had tons of luck and beat him on my first try.  The second Gary battle went horribly, but by that time Wartortle had Dig so I still won.  I did Surge's gym okay, but I'd probably have re-done it if this was my actual attempt at a speed run to submit to the site.  Everything else is going pretty smoothly right now, and I'm saved at Rock Tunnel PokeCenter with a time of 1:11 (in-game clock).
Hopefully I'll have the run done by tonight or tomorrow, and I'm hoping to come close to or maybe even break 3 hours.
Jack of all Trades
This is a slight hijack, but where can I find info. about the Weedle challenge (beating the game using only Weedle)...I mean, that sounds crazy.
First I've heard of it.

By the way, Radix, are the differences in Red/Blue and Yellow enough to warrant two seperate records for the two?
I'm addicted to games
You tell me. My pokemon experience is SSBM and that's it.
asdf
From what I remember(it has been awhile), there are subtle enough changes for seperate speed runs
Also tenkiforecast
I'd say yes. I think Movesets may be different, changing strategies *AKA, Nidoking run, with Double Kick*, you start with Pika, Kojrou & Mushashi *Jessie & James*, You can get the starters, I think you only need to talk to one guy to get Charmander *Hitokage*, which would take 2 HM's, cut and *maybe* strength. Otherwise, i don't think there are any other ones.
dinosaur from the past
If it were up to me, I'd throw Red and Blue into seperate categories, but meh.
Jack of all Trades
I would have one game page with RBY as separate categories, too.
Ben Goldberg
I'm going to try a run of the red version. So far, I can get up to Brock with a level 11 Squirtle in 13 minutes. That only took me 3 tries. If I give it a few more attempts, I can easily get 12 minutes. I think a sub 3 hour run will be easy to finish.
I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
Just finished my second run with Nidoking, still think I can improve 5+ minutes, though it was much cleaner than my first run.
Time? 3:06. 3:07 after the credits, which means a low 3:06, only seconds after the FAQ author.

I also saw (in a guide) where there are 2 more candies, making it 8, which would help OHKO Hitmon-sters (Bruno).
Are there more than 8 candies? Did I miss some?

Also, speedrun-wise, the difference between Red and Blue, imo, is the fact that you can't get a sandshrew (or bellsprout) for cut if you start with Squirtle. That's all, imo, as you run from all but 1 or 2 pokémon, that you catch for HMs.
Yellow, though, may be hard to get sub-3:00...

I'll try for sub 3-hours next try. I was surprised with the time, though, to say the least.
Do you know the Muffin Man?
Lol...everyone is so ahead of me :p You guys have lots of time.
Is there a FAQ with all the ether/elixers/pp up/rare candies listed out? It'll be helpful to know which are along the way.
Yellow is way different early on, thanks to the fact you're stuck with Pikachu from the get go.  I know that monster spawning locations are drastically changed (you can get Mankey before Brock, for example, I remeber blue/red being more similar to each other outside the exclusive Pokemon).  There's also new fights with Jesse and James, and things like that.

So yeah, definately has to be considered seperate.
Jack of all Trades
Just for the hell of it I decided to fire up the ol'e emu and play some Pokemon...lol. It's amazing how much you can wreck the game with just the starting Squirtle->Blastoise. Would it be feasible to beat the game without even getting Zapdos?
I love FuSN 1G - SG1!
I havn't tried the Squirtle->Blastoise way, but as you can get 8 Rare Candies through the game, and you'll have a level of 55ish at the league without them... I think a level 63+ Blastoise would own the League, especially as you get at least 1 elixir on the way through the game.

Let's see here, Rare Candy:
1. Southeast corner of the first level of Mt. Moon.
2. In the northwest corner of Cerulean City, in the backyard of that one house.
3. In the hall of SS. Anne where you meet Gary, third door from the right (iirc), may be another door.
4. Rocket's Hideout, in one of the tile puzzles.
5. Silph Building, 10th floor, near the Earthquake TM.
6. Lavender Tower (ghost tower), CAN'T miss it.
7. In the Fire House on Cinnabar, right before the key.
8. Somewhere in Victory Road.

Don't know 'bout ethers and 'lixers. :/
