Oh, GGFan said he was only going to the Elite Four. My friend finished the first half in 3 hours and 58 minutes, but he says it took him an additional hour to finish Kanto. He used Typhlosion the whole way.
With Typhlosion, the biggest roadblocks are, according to him, Chuck and Claire.
This may be a bold prediction, but I think I can get a run under 4 hours. I'll be done with my practice run in a few days, and I'll then start on my real run. I should have a good run done before the end of the month.
BTW, my Red run is all edited. I burned it on two discs, since my internet is all screwy. Now, Radix, where should I send it in? To Nathan?

I agree that running G/S/C would be harder than R/B/Y. yeesh... some of the stuff...
hm... I haven't played G/S/C in a while, but I remember a lot of stuff. I think that under 4 hours is possible... it would just be really hard. good IV's, plus the annoying parts you have to go through early... *shudder* One word for G/S/C, if you are using Bakufuun *typhlosion* then buy a Thunderpunch TM in Goldenrod. TRUST ME. it will help. Getting rid of Red could be a challenge also... but good luck anyway!
Okay. I think I worked out nearly all of the kinks and changed a few battles to have it work out faster. Unforunately, a lot relies on Nido's DVs. In one run, an Ice Beam can OHKO Erika's team, while another won't be able to.
I've adjusted my strategy to compensate for this.
My new run ends with a time of 2:38. I don't know if I can really shave off 8 minutes, except hope for clean battles.
2:38? Wow, nice. I still am going to send in my run, because I know with my strategy, I can get near 2:30. I just want to see if anyone has some good ideas/tips before I start my 2:30 run. My new run is going to take longer to finish, also, since every segment is going to be almost perfect, if not perfect.
Not a bad idea. Most enemies I do OHKO, but some barely survive. I'll take a look through my run to see who those enemies are, and see how many X-Specials I'll need.
They just kinda assumed it was against the rules, despite my guesses. Everybody always thinks Radix's rules are much tighter than they are (although I think this one is probably one of those borderline glitches mentioned in the rules to get its own category, depending on how much time it saves).
How about that trick that makes you not fight the Marowak.. I take it it means that you skip the underground rocket hideout and the silph scope for that, right? That's a fair chunk of time.
No sure what happens after that, however, since you eventually are supposed to meet Giovanni again.. but he'll be in the rocket base, or what?
I would assume so. You cannot get into Silph Tower before Pokémon Tower, right? I really doubt the game checks to see whether you beat Giovanni the first time, since it assumes you have to have beaten him to get to Silph Tower in the first place.
I'm the friend Forgotten One was talking about, running through Gold. Just got through the Rival 4 battle (underground) and am at about 2:30. I think I can get through the E4 by about 3:15, and less than an hour after that for Red.
So far, my biggest mistakes have been a couple of battles that I should have avoided that, for some odd reason, I didn't. Also, I should ammend what Forgotten said about the rough points in the game. They are also my save points. They are, in order...
That leaves at least 3 sections where I play for an hour or more nonstop, but there are no real good save points in those areas that I can exploit, save one at Pryce, who is relatively easy at that. Going right at Morty's town is much more productive than going left, as there is nothing useful that learns Strength before Gyarados. Also, catching Gyarados gives a cheap and easy second attacker for some of the tougher battles.
By the end of the weekend, I should have at least 2 practice runs completed, and then I'll start my tape recorded run. Wish me luck!!!
