OK, Mudkip is definitely the better choice.  He has absolutely no gym troubles until gym 8, at which point Groudon can come in with Solarbeam.  Further, he's much better at dealing with Team Magma

Gym 1- Water gun wins this easily.  Teach Rock Tomb now.  You'll need it later

Gym 2- If you've evolved, Mud Shot and good defenses should win out here

Gym 3- Electric immune and mud shot.  Too easy

Gym 4- Muddy Water and Mud Shot.  No contest.  Teach Overheat to Groudon when you get it.

Gym 5- This is more difficult. Dig can avoid slaking's attacking phase, but Muddy Water will do more damage, as Slaking has low sp. def.  For Vigoroth, attack with Muddy Water and hope for acc downs.

Gym 6- Rock Tomb works wonders, although Surf for Skarmory, of course, and Swellow takes more damage from it, too.  May want to Rock Tomb it anyway for the speed down.

Gym 7- Fish up your sharpedo now, but don't give it surf.  Use it's Crunch for the gym.  And keep Sharpedo's Crunch.  You may need it later.

Gym 8- Now that you have Groudon, Solarbeam your way through.  Solarbeam is found in the Safari Zone, in the northwestern section.  You'll need the Mach Bike, but you probably already have that, anyway.

Sidney- Brick break is worthless, as STAB EQ does just as much.  Just power your way through with groudon, and use the secondary types for SE from groudon.

Phoebe- This is a good time to use that Sharpedo's Crunch.  Otherwise, power your way through with EQs.

Glacia- Solarbeam and Fire Blast/Overheat.

Drake-  Blizzard all the way. You may have to retry this one a few times because of Blizzard's low accuracy

Steven- Just type match.  Cradily isn't weak to ground or fire, though, so either Blizzard it for SE or just quake it to death anyway.

Your team's final set should be

Swampert
Surf
EQ
Blizzard
Rock Tomb

Groudon
EQ
Fire Blast
Solarbeam
Overheat

This should do the trick.

Overheat and fire blast a tad redunant? >> I mean, i'm fine with OH, but really, shouldn't one be bulk up or something else? But still fine. >.>

EDIT: At peterburg forest; 00:11 minutes. I saved right at the forest, cause there's a trainer that's hard to dodge. Normally, i would just battle it for exp, but the little A-hole has 6 wurples, absolute no no.-.-

EDIT2: No way..... I got passed him, then i met the grunt, i miss the first shot, he sand-attacks. I miss again, he tackles, crit hit, not dead. Tackle misses again, and i die. Complete BULL****
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
FB has only 5 PP.  You'll need the extra Fire move.  However, you could just replace FB when it runs out of PP.  I'm not sure if Bulk Up will be entirely useful, but it's something to check.

These are things to check in a test run.

Alright. =)

Ok, I just beat the rival. Few problems along the way, but that's the point of a test run, no? =)

First, the first gym, level 14 or above, or else the nosepass will WALL you. I'm not kidding, water gun does 1/5th bar with it at level 11.

Second, the second gym ( lol >.>), be level 17 or above. He CHEATS so bad it's not even funny. When he uses bulk up 2 or more times, use water gun, it's special and will do more damage than the physical mud spot.

Third, the rival i mentioned. Brute force is not going to cut it here, so i got a little creative. First, be level 22, this is nessesary. Then, get at least 6 super potions or better ( i had a full restore from a zigzagoon, btw, that was a great idea. I got a PP, a full restore, a full heal, and an ultra ball so far), prefably more.

First, there's a dire hit somewhere; pick it up, it's very helpful. He always sends out numel first; good. Numel cannot do anything agaisnt marstomp other than growl, so use a dire hit. If he doesn't growl, just go on with water gun and pwn it. If he does, just restart. If you have anything else to boost, use it, i didn't, but it would certianly help, particually if it boosts attack or special defence.

Now, for Groyole. Ugh, what a pain. Fournatly, it only knows absorb; any more and you would've been screwed at this point. First, use mud spot, it will do about a fourth of a bar, but much more importantly lower his speed. He'll use absorb and attack first, but that will do a bit above half; perfect.

Use any other attack, probaly tackle OR if you have foresight ( I did), use that; the next time you attack you'll go first, which is extremly important. Now, you should have 4-6 Hp left. Use a super potion or whatever, and, dun dun dun, he uses quick attack, the actual smart thing to do. -.-  Anyway, it'll do like 5 damage; perfect. Now, here's where i got lucky. He used absorb before me, but then, i got a CRIT hit, at the exact time i needed it. That mud spot lowers his speed below mine, and it did exactly 3/4ths damage. He couldn't heal right afterwards since he went first. One hit again, dead. Now, that's why you need dire hit, you need to get a crit.

That's probaly the best way to do it, but, in the event that doesn't happen, use this.

Using the two turns before healing, use mud spot twice, lowering his speed down below yours. Use the quick attack trick, and hit him again with mud spot. The goal is still to get a crit, but it's a little different. Use a super potion after the first atttack, and the absorb will do just above half again. Attack again, and repeat, untill you get a crit. At that, he's screwed, so kill him and move on

to the fat whale, but you can 2HKO it and it has splash, so, yah, not much of a threat.

Well, that's what the first run is for. You need to actually be somewhat leveled enough so you can kill the gym leaders, but the next 2 shouldn't be hard at all.

Well, that took a bit of thinking this time. What do you think?

EDIT: Done with the 3rd gym. Complete rape. 0:58 at this point; i think i can hit sub 4 or even 3 if i'm goood enough.

The best tactic against the second Rival battle is a few X-Attacks with Mud Shot.

You should be aiming for a time that's under 2:52, since that was my best time.

This topic should provide a bit of information.

If you're using Mudkip, good luck against Norman.  You're going to need it.

Nah, I just evolved and used strengh. Strengh has come to use more than once, but will end when i get blizzard. I'm right at the city to buy it ( and erase strengh).

This run isn't the "speed run", it's the test run, to find problems and level differences.

As for Norman, he actually wasn't hard. I used mud shot to weaken the first one, and to slow it down. I healed between shots. Next, I used water gun to get it just above the healing line. Then i used mud shot to KO.

Vigoroth wasn't hard at all. He was just too weak to really do anything, not to mention low defences, so that was easy.

The thrid one was even easier, it just used focus punch all the time >.>. USed the same stragagy as the first one.

Time: 2:03. Good, seeing this is my first try and I'm ignoring even 10 second mistakes. I'll hit sub 4 definatly, my guess is 3:15-3:30.

Now I need to get my gameboy player from my sister. >.>

EDIT: Oh, no way. You NEED the pokeblock case for the safari zone >.<

EDIT2: 2:46, caught sharpedo, proceeding. I'm still guessing sub 4.

1) If I understand you correctly, you evolved to Marshtomp for Norman?

2) Why are you getting Blizzard?

3) Why are you going to the Safari Zone?

In order.

1. No....

2. So that i can kill drake. ( he'll be a PAIN if i don't)

3. to get solarbeam for groundon.
Well, that explains my confusion.  You're running Pokemon Ruby in a Sapphire topic.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
It seemed unnecessary to start a new topic.  They're quite similar games.

Well, the run is almost done, but i bring bad news: The gameboy player doesn't work on the Wii. So, unless i get my gamecube back, i won't be able to do it.
1-Up!
Heres a link to a gamecube under $50

That should help get your run under way.

Actually, I do have one; my sister in college has it though, and she is on her plane home now. So, if time prevals, i would be able to do it in April, during Spring Break. Plus, my mom would not approve of getting a gamecube for ONE thing.

If it was my choice, i would buy it, but not mine >.>.

EDIT: But thanks anyway ^_^ I'm going to post my information on the run ( see previous page for earlier encounters)

4th gym: Two Slugmas are easy, just rape them. Torkal, however, does not go down without a fight. His defence is high enough that it could keep my level 28-9 mastomp's mud shot not even 2HKOing. So, I recommened an X attack for the occasion; just use it during the slugmas ( they can't do much at all). Anyway, I also recommend para heals, because torkal has, dun dun dun, body slam. And it will spam it. So i would say to bring a good 3-4 with you to be safe. Other than that, no complications.

5th gym: See last page.

Rival #2: Evolved to Swampert for this one. Use mud shot to slow down groyvle, strengh it to own it. You can sweep the rest easily.

6th gym: This was an almost complete rape, but use surf on swellow. Rock Tomb's accuracy will take a hit by double team, which it leads off by. Pelliper you should be fine, but be wary of protect spam. ( I had to restart twice for this). Surf Skarmony, and rock tomb altaria. Done.

Rival Battle #3 ( for Blizzard): Use the same stratagey as above.

7th gym: Easy as pie. You can 2HKO solrock. At this point, Swampert's above average defence's pay off here. The two floating rocks can't do more than a 1/4th damage each. Anyway, Lunatone will be raped the moment solrock goes down. HOWEVER, it will heal on the 2HKO Solrock takes. So, use blizzard; 1/4 damage. Use Surf, slightly less than 1/2. Surf again; dead. Better yet, it might be more practical to use blizzard first, to start off, and then rape both with surf. Hmmm, I'll test that next time.

He he, did this thread die because i'm not doing my speed run anymore? I'm flattered.  Tongue

But, I will have my gamecube back at spring break. So I will do it, in 3 months. Plenty of time to practice, plan, and make it the perfect speed run.

Anyway, thus far, here are the segments i recommend. Sapphire speed runners, pay attention. From start.....

1.Start-Pokedex

2.Pokedex-Peterburg Woods ( beginning)

3.Peterbrug Woods- Roxanne (before battle) OR

4.Peterbrug Woods-End of Peterburg Woods; then End-Roxanne

5.Roxanne (before battle)- Beginning of the Route 116

6.Beginning of the Route 116- Dewford City ( right off boat landing)

7.Dewford City- Gym (before Gym leader)

8.Gym (before fight)- beginning of cave

9.beginning of cave- Slateport City

10.Slateport City- First Rival Battle (before)

11.First Rival Battle-After first battle

12.After first battle- Gym ( after fight)

NOTE: I do not recommend the last segment for non mudkip players. Instead, do it to the beginning of the gym.

13.Gym-End of Fiery Tunnel

14.End of Fiery Tunnel- Meteor Falls

15.Meteor Falls- Top of Volcano ( after fight)

16.Top of Valcano- End of Gym ( before fight)

17.End of Gym ( before)- End of Gym (after)

18.End of Gym (after)-End of New Gym (before fight)

19.End of Gym (before)-End of Gym (after)

20.End of Gym (after)- Beginning of Route 119

21.Beginning of Route 119-Fight with Admin ( after)

22.Fight with Admin- Rival Battle (before)

23.Rival Battle (before)- Forte City

24.Forte City- End of the Gym (before fight)

25.End of Gym (before fight)- Safari Zone ( after solarbeam) OR, if your not playing Ruby, Lilycove city.

26.Safari Zone( or whatever)- Beginning of Base

27.Beginning of Base-End of Base

28.End of Base-Beginning of Gym

29.Beginning of Gym-End of Gym ( before if Sapphire, after if Ruby, or not)

And that's where I'm at in the speed run We're looking at 40-45 segments here, which is actually great.  Grin

EDIT: I am done. Time was 3:34. My closing notes.

8th gym: Rape. Need I say more?

Victory Road: VERY hard to do without flash, but struggled though.

Elite 4: Alright, what you need is 10+ hyper potions, at the very least 2 pp increasers ( I went in with one, and that was HELL). Have swampert above level 45 if you can, and groudon above 47. Also, have 5 revives or more, and have about 3 or more full heals. At this point, sell all your repels, balls, and all the TMs you don't need. Use the money to buy the supplies you need. If you have any PP ups, Rare Candies, etc, use them now. It wouldn't hurt to bring along some X Attacks and such.

Oh yes, Overheat was a good idea. It was good for owning a bastard or so.

Sydney: Start with a slave to absorb Inimidate. After it dies, switch in Swampert. Surf it once, and it depends. If it's in Yellow, use EQ. If not, switch in groudon and kill it with EQ. You can sweep the rest with Groudon.

Ghost dude ( >.<): Try going as far as you can with swampert. When it's dead, sweep with groudon.

Loerari: Turn on switch at this point. First, completly wipe out Galie with Overheat. Switch to Swampert, and use EQ. It shouldn't kill, but do a nice amount of damage. Switch to groudon. Kill it with Solarbeam, and if it switches to another, kill it. If to glaile, overheat, and switch to swampert. Switch back to groundon, and use EQ on it. Sweep anything else.

Drake: What a pain in the A@#. Give Swampert an X Spec for Blizzard; you'll need it. TRY to sweep with Blizzard. If you miss, sorry, restart. If not, pwn. BUT, be careful of salamence. it's faster than you, so hopefully you get lucky. Eventually, i got past him.

Steven: I have a confesson; I was dreading this fight. But no, I swept with Groundon. Use fire blast ( yah, fire blast is fine), and sweep the rest. Careful of Metagross. >> Sweep the fossils with solarbeam, and EQ DOES kill Arrgon. And bam bam, we, are, DONE!

Continued Purposed Check Points

30.  End of Gym-Beginning of cave.

31. Beginning of cave-Groudon (After)

32. Groundon to gym ( after fight)

33. Gym to Beginning of Victory Road.

34. Victory Road-Basement 2 (beginning)

35. Basment 2-Pokemon League (supplied and ready to go)

36. Elite Four beginning-Drake

37.Beginning of Drake- End of Drake

38. End of Drake to Steven

And that's done. 38 segments, not bad. ^_^
