I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
That's just the advice I was looking for, Forgotten One.  I really don't want to go to my PC at all, therefore I'll probably just get one Zigzagoon.  I guess my party in the end will be Blaziken, Zigzagoon, Wingull, Castform, Sharpedo, and Kyogre.  I'll use the non-luck segments to get rare candies from Zigzagoon.

Anyways, I haven't started the run yet, because the recording device I bought hasn't come in the mail yet, but I'll start on it as soon as it comes.  I think we've covered all the tough spots, but if anyone has any suggestions, I would love to hear it.
Right now, the question is figuring out if Mudkip is the better starter.  I think in the Pokemon Emerald topic, the creator had established that Mudkip was faster and easier than Torchic.

Sapphire is a different story entirely.  Norman remains the greatest roadblock in a Sapphire run, since Swagger is unavailable for abuse.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah, I've already started using torchic anyways, and I do believe torchic is faster than mudkip in sapphire.

So, anyways, today I started the run.  I was trying to get to the forest as fast as possible without saving, until... I RAN INTO A SHINY POOCHYENA!!!  You know, the pokemon running after Birch in the very beginning?  So anyways, I saved before going to battle May.  I couldn't catch it, of course, but at least its there. I've heard stories about that. X_x; I pity anyone who has that bad luck...

Haha, except for the fact that I got it recorded on my speed run.  If I wasn't recording for a speed run, though, that would've been really unlucky.

*still pities you*
I'd use it on an UU team... ;_;
hi
lol I have a shiny poochyenna too which I found before ralts of course on that other route ;d

anyway on topic if you have sapphire i think you should be fine with blaziken and kyogre

good thing you aren't doing emerald...
tate and liza have four psychics
you can't even get kyogre until after the e4
champion has water pokemon

Emerald has Lv. 70 rayquaza before the E4.
That... >>>>>>>>>>>>>> lv. 45 Kyogre. but, in any other situation, Kyogre rapes Rayquaza.
i like doing speed runs!
if it was possable try to beat the game with all the legendary pokemom (mewtwo, mew, etc) i had to use a game shark to get some but others i traded to my game from firered and greenleaf
Also tenkiforecast
That... hacking isn't allowed on this site.

gamesharks arent allowed on SDA
5 + 4 = 9
This really would be quite a difficult run. Are you thinking of doing it segmented?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Yeah, I'm doing it segmented for sure.  I already got a shiny poochyena on the run, and it was with a high-stat torchic as well.  Of course I couldn't catch it, but its still cool that I got it recorded.
So what's your current progress (like how many gym badges do you have and etc.)? I'd like to see this as well. Oh, and when you finish, if you finish, please upload it as one video instead of 50 segments, downloading all of them and pasting them together is really bothersome :/
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'll try to paste the segmented parts together and I'll try to have both options of viewing available.  I just finished getting the 2nd badge now, it might be a little while til I finish because I have to spend a lot of time working and with my summer classes.  I'll be able to work on it much faster in a couple of weeks.
You might want to post your times.
your moveset should work good luck
Hello~
Sorry to bump (and as a first post, too!), but is this run still in progress?

After reading the abortive Pokemon Ruby speedrun thread, I started researching a run of sapphire.

I'm trying to decide whether to do a seg'd or ss run of the game, and while I'd prefer to do a seg'd run of the game, if someone has already nearly completed a segmented run, I'll go ss to start.

If it's not in progress, I'll post my segment plan for comments.

Thanks!
Back in the game!

I'm sorry, I just realized I had those calculations wrong.  The first should be 120 x 2.5 = 300, the second should be 120 x 3 = 360.  Even so, the power of fire blast would outdo even explosion, so I don't need overheat.

No, it wouldn't.  Explosion also cuts the opponent(s) defense(s) in half.  Explosion rocks all!  Also, charcoal only gives you a 1.1 boost, no 1.5.  So, actually, your low hp blaze kick or whatever you were using is 120*1.5*1.5*1.1=297.  Which is still a lot, but you were also still mistaken.
The message on the right is false.

I thought explosion only took away defence mods.  :-/

Anyway, while we're all here, can we make this the Ruby thread as well? I have both games, but i want to do ruby for the challenge.

Then again, ruby is WAY different from sapphire for basiclly one reason; no kyroge. But before i go into that, would that be ok with everyone? If not, then I'll just make a new thread.

Well, someone can lock it or something; i'll post what i have from there over here.

Well, I know there's already a Sapphire thread out there, but I can't let the red gem go to waste ( and redeem the title of it here; that last thread was terrible >.>)! Besides, the two are going to be VERY different speed runs. Mainly because of one thing; no kyroge to rape the E4. Instead, we have the much less praised Groundon.

But that aside from now, I ( yes, I actually will, though i really hope my older sister can return my gameboy eluminator; i got a wii and gave my gamecube to my sister in college.) will be attempting a speed run at pokemon ruby. Obviously, it will be segmented.

Now, first question, which starter to choose? Torchic is out; groundon and blazy ( that's my nickname for my blaziken, deal with it) cannot defeat the E4 by themsleves. So it's between Mudkip and Treeko. Treeko is FAST ( 120 base speed at final evolution)  while mudkip is slow ( 60 base), and speed is extremly important in a speed run, but mudkip has a better movepool, learns EQ and gets stab ( doesn't learn it naturally for a while, but TMs can solve it), Ice Beam/Blizzard, and surf. Treeko, however, does not get many good moves. It does get brick break and Aerial Ace towards the end ( and leaf blade), but that's not till late. Plus, it will have problems with the 4th and 6th gym ( though pretty much rapes the rest with speed and special attack). So, I'm leaning towards mudkip, but the speed is pushing me away.

Second Question, how will i beat the E4? The teams could take care of the first two with relative ease, but then there's the question of the ice, the dragon, and the champion.  MABYE groundon can take the ice part with Fire Blast, but thick fat could prove complcated. Mabye Treeko could pull through with BB, but it's weakness could be problematic if it doesn't OHKO. Actually, i think groundon would be good with break break, if i use mudkip. Another point for mudkip, i guess. Then there's Drake. If mudkip is prevalent, then it can rape with blizzard/ice beam. However, if treeko's the pick, it's a bit more complicated. I would say the most obvious solution is dragon claw for groundon. However, I'm not liking the probaly 5 min+ detour for it, even with the escape rope. Another point for mudkip.

And then there's the champion. Actually, i think Sceptile would do great here ( finnaly). Most of his pokemon are weak to grass ( 4 out of 6 if i remember correctly). However, there's the other two; metagross and Arrgon. I think Groundon would be able to take down Metagross with EQ, but Arrgon, that's a different story. 180 base defence is not something to laugh at, and i'm not sure if EQ from an under-leveled groundon would be able to OHKO, even if it's x4 weak.

As for the rest of the party, i liked the ideas of the Sapphire's thead, which is...

Starter
Groundon(  Zigzagzoon untill though)
Tallow
Sharpedo
Zigzagzoon x2

OK, Sharpedo was neccesary in the Blaziken/Kyroge run for the 7th gym. In this one, i think the two other starters should handle well. However, Sharpedo instead is going to be an HM slave; Strengh, waterfall, Dive, and Surf. He'll also help with the 7th gym if something goes wrong.

Tallow is for flight and i won't go into that. However, the three zigzagzoons are for item collecting. ( NOTE: COMPLETE credit for the people on the Sapphire thread for thinking of this) Combined, they have a 27% chance ( I can hear the screaming of "NERD!" now) of picking something up after battle; 1 out of 4 battles. Out of those, only 10% are rare candies, so approxemently ( not exactly), you'll get a rare candy every 40 battles. I think there's a good 100 forced, plus more for mistakes/training, battles, so you'll probaly get at least two, probaly three, possibly 4, and if you're lucky, 5-6. That's not even calculating the probilites of 2 or 3 of the pokemon picking up.   However ,you'll get some other nice stuff too; healing items, berries, and even a PP up if your lucky. Plus, they're HM slaves, so surf if i pick treeko, cut, and rock smash are for them.

I think that's all for now. I can go into more detail if I pick my starter. So that's what i want to know first, which one?  Grin
----------------------------

This is what i had on that thread. I'm now going to start a mock speed run. I'll keep ya updated; the times should be around the same for the first part of the game.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
OK, Mudkip is definitely the better choice.  He has absolutely no gym troubles until gym 8, at which point Groudon can come in with Solarbeam.  Further, he's much better at dealing with Team Magma

Gym 1- Water gun wins this easily.  Teach Rock Tomb now.  You'll need it later

Gym 2- If you've evolved, Mud Shot and good defenses should win out here

Gym 3- Electric immune and mud shot.  Too easy

Gym 4- Muddy Water and Mud Shot.  No contest.  Teach Overheat to Groudon when you get it.

Gym 5- This is more difficult. Dig can avoid slaking's attacking phase, but Muddy Water will do more damage, as Slaking has low sp. def.  For Vigoroth, attack with Muddy Water and hope for acc downs.

Gym 6- Rock Tomb works wonders, although Surf for Skarmory, of course, and Swellow takes more damage from it, too.  May want to Rock Tomb it anyway for the speed down.

Gym 7- Fish up your sharpedo now, but don't give it surf.  Use it's Crunch for the gym.  And keep Sharpedo's Crunch.  You may need it later.

Gym 8- Now that you have Groudon, Solarbeam your way through.  Solarbeam is found in the Safari Zone, in the northwestern section.  You'll need the Mach Bike, but you probably already have that, anyway.

Sidney- Brick break is worthless, as STAB EQ does just as much.  Just power your way through with groudon, and use the secondary types for SE from groudon.

Phoebe- This is a good time to use that Sharpedo's Crunch.  Otherwise, power your way through with EQs.

Glacia- Solarbeam and Fire Blast/Overheat.

Drake-  Blizzard all the way. You may have to retry this one a few times because of Blizzard's low accuracy

Steven- Just type match.  Cradily isn't weak to ground or fire, though, so either Blizzard it for SE or just quake it to death anyway.

Your team's final set should be

Swampert
Surf
EQ
Blizzard
Rock Tomb

Groudon
EQ
Fire Blast
Solarbeam
Overheat

This should do the trick.
