Pokemon For the WIN!
Hello everybody!

It has been a while since i have been around on the forums, but today (Just about an hour ago) i finished my speed run of Pokemon Platinum. The final time was 4 hours 40 Minutes. VERY close to my Pokemon Diamond Run of 4 Hours 18 Minutes. The distortion world threw me off a bit, and i bet i could shave a couple minutes off my time - but that is for another day.

Youtube link to my Pokemon Platinum Speed Run:

And if you missed it, here is my (old) Pokemon Diamond Speed Run:

Hopefully, i can get Pokemon HeartGold in by the end of this year.

Thanks for looking people!

Hmmm, not sure if this would go here, but congrats on your accomplishment.

If you do start on a Heart Gold run, then you should go to the planning thread that is already in the making.

Well, since it was not a full recorded video i thought it would go here.

But anyway - after some arguments with a couple of my colleagues who play Pokemon religiously, they said i could shave some time by going with Turtwig instead of Piplup, just for type coverage and defensive abilities. So i should be going at another run sometime this month (I would like to do it next week) to see if Turtwig would make that big of a difference.

Thoughts?
There's a word for that

I'm not sure how much coverage it would get before Torterra, after which Ice moves will wreck you. Grotle is also extremely slow.
Fucking Weeaboo
Getting to Empoleon at Lv 36 for the Steel Type I think would help things more, unless you're fighting a ton of electric enemies.  Empoleon has 9 types it's resistant to, 2 it's very resistant to, and 1 it's immune from (and 3 it's vulnerable to).  Torterra has 2 types it's resistant to, 1 it's immune from, 2 it's vulnerable to, and 1 it's VERY vulnerable to.  Plus most of the abilities are grass, which suck.  Granted you do get 2 abilities with 100 attack or more (earthquake at 32, leaf storm at 57) compared to 1 for Empoleon (Hydro Pump at 59) I don't feel going with Grass is the better choice.

Torterra is 'meh' on Special Attack and doesn't have any killer moves besides Bite/Crunch to take down Levitating Bronzor/Bronzong.

Empoleon can also use Blizzard via TM to counter Grass types and OHKO Barry's Torterra and can learn a reliable STAB move part way through the run (Surf).
think we proved Kadabra was the best(and fastest) pokemon for a Platinum run lil under a year ago.
Not surprising, since the last Gym Leader uses electric types, so getting them out of the way fast is best. Empoleon wouldn't beat them too fast even with power levels *is what i would think without experimentation*

Got a link to how the Kadabra run went? I would like to know exactly they did and what their time was.
Platinum adds about 15-ish minutes due to the distortion world, so i would like to see this kadabra run.

X-Speed, then (fingers crossed it) endure the Electric attack followed by Torrent Sweeping with Critical Hits along the way, or just use Giratina Another Forme, even though it's an inferior sweeper when comparing it to Palkia.

The Kadabra run also relied on getting a Lucky Egg IIRC, which isn't gonna happen in a SS run. A lower-level Kadabra will miss out on OHKO's and be severely at risk against any moderately strong attacks. Starter-wise I still think Infernape has a huge advantage over the other two simply because it's so much faster.
Ah i see, so a Piplup is still a really good option for teh game, since most of the gyms will be mowed over by it.

I still have to breed a Swampert for my water team though...*sidenote* Tongue
well the Lucky egg was used for maximum testing results to get a median for the strat and considering Kadabra was lvl 84 at the end of the run and Kadabra can abuse Teleport in early spots/later of the run. You can read the battle data collected http://speeddemosarchive.com/forum/index.php?topic=9782.105

Its been lil under a year tho since we came up with it so forgive me if im forgetting a flaw or two.

Alright, i caught an Abra and tried to use teleport after getting the coal badge - and it would not let me. It may be that they fixed it from diamond/pearl to platinum, so i would think that the Kadabra run is theoretical. I will try again with the kadabra run, but i do not think that the time to train abra to kadabra would balance out the power.
Can't you only use Teleport while outside of buildings?

Yes - I (Attempted) to use teleport after leaving the gym, only to block me from doing so.
I tried a Platinum Speed Run, and I ended up with 4h and 35m of playing, with a Lv. 61 Torterra, a Lv. 59 Staraptor, and a Lv. 60 Azelf (Master Ball).

You actually cannot teleport within a town, a building, or a cave. You can however anywhere else. I find it most useful in a glitch run.(I have a route for Pearl I need to record, but it can easily be adapted for Platinum). It saves a lot of travel time if You know how and where to use it. Use it to get back to Jubilife after the 1st badge, very small timesavers that skip caves and such.
