ty for pointing that out to me .. :p
Battle Is My Forte
will you do 2 things?

1: normal play until the pokemon league

2: getting all "badges" from the battle frontier
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I reccomend NOT doing the frontier medals, as they are EXTREMELY random, and not quite as interesting. I also reccomend that you watch the Gold/Silver and Ruby/Sapphire runs.

Particularly the Ruby/Sapphire one, for obvious reasons. This series is a bit more balanced in what can kill what, so you'll have a hard time finding an uber which can slaughter all of the gyms. I suspect Mudkip (+ evolutions) is still very strong however.
uhhm.. where is the r/s run actually? Huh?
hi
is there a ruby/sapphire run on sda?
I had one done, but I don't like it.  It's slower than my practice run, so I'm aiming to do it again.  It's also on tape, so it's not online.

I used Torchic over Mudkip.  Torchic on a bad run is still faster than Mudkip on a good run.

I wasn't sure whether Torchic or Mudkip would be faster, personally. Blaziken can obviously trash the Normal gym, but is rather frail. I'd be interested to see your reasoning.
dinosaur from the past
Blaziken's types are super effective against the ENTIRE Elite 4 + Champion.

Hmm, ok... I take it you pick up some major Fighting attack along the way like Brick Break? What Fire attack, do you stick with Blaze Kick?
hi
do ruby use mudkip use masterball on groudon

groudon+swampert = win in e4

I thought had a detailed analysis written out somewhere, but I guess not.  These are my notes for SAPPHIRE, remember.

Roxanne - Mudkip has the advantage over Torchic.  Mudkip can waltz in with Water Gun and easily defeat the gym, while Torchic must undergo some more leveling in order to sweep the gym.  Torchic learns Double Kick at Lvl. 16.  It actually doesn't take too much time, since Torchic/Mudkip are around Lvl. 14 - 15 when they arrive at Rustboro City.  Two to three trainer battles are enough to level up to 16.

Brawly - Neither type has an advantage over the other here.  Double Kick will be more effective than Water Gun though, since it uses Combusken's decent ATK stat instead of Water Gun using Marshtomp's average SPC ATK stat.

Rival Battle - Combusken has the advantage here.  Double Kick + Bulk Up TM from Brawly = dead Marshtomp.  You'll have to Bulk Up twice against Shroomish, which shouldn't be too much trouble, provided you don't get paralyzed.  Marshtomp will have a harder time, since Groyvle's Absorb will smack Marshtomp silly.  In fact, I think it's almost impossible with Marshtomp; I remember delaying evolution until after this battle and used Mudkip's Bide and prayed for the best.

Wattson - Marshtomp may have the type advantage, but there's really no difference in battle tactics.  Two of three of Wattson's pokemon are Steel-type, and Double Kick is effective.  Deadly effective.  Two to three Bulk Up and Combusken sweeps.  Granted, Marshtomp doesn't have to worry at all about this battle.

Team Aqua - He has a Mightenya, a Golbat, and a Sharpedo.  Mightenya's Intimidate lowers attack.  Counter it with a Bulk Up, then Double Kick away.  Rock Tomb Golbat, and Double Kick Sharpedo.  Marshtomp has a slightly more difficult battle against Sharpedo, it will have to resort to Dig or Tacke.

Flannery - Marshtomp has a fun time with Water Gun and Dig.  I suggest Dig however, because Flannery's pokemon have a habit of using Sunny Day.  As for Combusken, repeat after me, Bulk Up and Double Kick.

Norman - This is where it gets difficult.  You can't just slug it out with Slaking, since his stats are THAT much better, and Norman loves to use items.  There are two ways a Mudkip user can go after this battle: Evolve to Swampert and use Muddy Water, which is a tad time-consuming since I remember being at Level. 34 - 35 here, maybe lower.  The other method for Mudkip is to get the Toxic TM back at the Fiery Pass.  Toxic Slaking, then Dig when he attacks.  It's a long battle, but you'll win out in the end.

Combusken has it slightly easier, but not by much.  I suggest having an Awakening or two, since Slaking has a habit of using Yawn.  Anyway, Bulk Up three to four times, then Double Kick.  This should ensure a 2HKO, which is enough since you get free turns.

It was this battle here than Torchic gets the advantage over Mudkip for the rest of the game.

Rival Battle 2 - Same as always, except you'll have an easier time than the first rival battle.

Winona - Blaziken uses a combination of Rock Tomb and Overheat.  Swampert Surfs and Rock Tombs.

Rival Battle 3 - Same old, same old.

Liza and Tate - The most difficult Blaziken battle.  It takes some luck to win this one.  Basically, your partner is a meatshield; it takes the hits for you while you focus on Lunatone (its Psychic can OHKO Blaziken).  Solrock is simple after Lunatone is down.

Swampert has an easier time, but only by a little bit, since Solrock LOVES to use Sunny Day to screw your Surf over.  It's still managable.

Team Aqua 2 - Same applies as the previous battle, except that Golbat has now become a Crobat.  Rock Tomb it away.

Kyogre takes over here.  Attach the Mystic Water to it.
Surf
Calm Mind
Ice Beam
Thunder (purchased in Lilycove Department Store)

Wallace - Thunder for the win.  Surf Whiscash, since it's Water/Ground.

Wally - Remember him?  Ice Beam Altaria, then Surf for the win.

Sidney - Surf Mightyena, Ice Beam Shiftry, Surf Absol, Thunder Sharpedo, Ice Beam Cacturne.

Phoebe - Surf everything.

Glacia - Need some luck here.  Thunder SHOULD OHKO Glalie, else you're in for a longer battle, since Hail kicks in over Rain Dance.  Thunder the rest of the team.

Drake - Ice Beam.  Salamance is faster than Kyogre though, so don't take it lightly.  A critical hit Fly once killed Kyogre, so I speak from experience.  Ice Beam it for the win.

Steve - Calm Mind once or twice, else, it will take two hits to OHKO Cradily and that isn't what we want.  Surf/Thunder/Ice Beam the rest of the team.

I think I used an Elixir or some PP-restoring item somewhere in between, but I don't remember.

Dur... I forgot about using the legendary. I almost never use them because I've gotten attached to my team by that time and the level difference isn't that bad when you're not just whizzing through the game... that's why I forgot.

Ok, I'm convinced Blaziken is better. Is there a suitable partner for the Liza and Tate battle? Seeing as you already need a water/flying type for all the silly HMs... Kyamo/Pelipper? Or will that die too easily to Rock Tomb/Slide?

Note: I forgot what the english name for Kyamo is; first form of Pelipper.
You mean Wingull.  I probably should catch one, but it can't learn Surf, oddly enough.  Instead, during my run, I caught Tropius (for Fly/Flash), Zigzagoon (for Surf), and Tentacool (for Dive/Waterfall).

I got a map for Victory Road, which means that I don't need Flash anymore.  It's somewhere in the Pokemon R/B speedrun topic.  As such, I'm probably going to catch a generic Flying pokemon for Fly, Zigzagoon for Surf, and Tentacool.

I could catch a Sharpedo at Mossdeep City, since it's Water/Dark and could help immensely.  It does take some extra time though, finding the Super Rod and then fishing for it.
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
would taking the time to get Rayquaza be worth it?  It's level 70 and available before the E4, and probably perfect for your master ball.  And with its high stats, it could easily sweep the E4.

You're right, Wingulls (thanks) can't learn Surf but Pelippers can (evolve at level 25), and also Fly. They're also very easy to find early on. They can't learn Dive though, a Marill or the Tentacool you suggest can do that.
Sharpedo would be a great choice for Liza and Tate, and can also learn Surf/Waterfall/Dive.
Catching information: Gem -> Routes 103, 118, 122, 124 - 134 (Super Rod)

Getting the Rayquaza probably isn't worth it, because of the miscallenous junk you have to do to get to him; the mach bike stuff really isn't fun, though you could feasibly save a segment in the middle of the tower. I agree that he can slap about most of the Elite 4 though. EXTREMESPEED!!!

Edit: The Emerald move tutors might make the run a little more interesting... a well placed Swagger on a pokemon could make the Slaking kill itself with no trouble at all.
I like to move it move it!
Oooh!  I'd LOVE to see the speed runs of Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald!

As you can see in my signature, I do have a Sapphire run completed.  I don't like it though for two reasons.

1) My practice runs were faster by a few minutes.  (3:45 was my best time)

2) The latter half of the run was sloppy.  Very sloppy.

So Torchic is it, then?

What nature should my Torchic be?
Or do Nature, IVs, EVs not really matter when speed running?

As you can see, I am obviously new to Pokemon Emerald and will no way be the best time setter for this game.

I just bought the game and just wanted to know which starter will get me to the credits fastest.  Smiley

EVs are not important as the pokémon you will be battling in each runthrough will be roughly the same barring any major route changes, and levelling up should probably be unnecessary, though the Gem series are much harder than their predecessors.
Nature and IVs can be very important though, also the gender could be, if you plan on using/resisting Attract. Having an above average Attack/SpAttack can make the game much easier. See the TAS Pokémon Blue (Mew) run for how much a decent Mew can smooth things over.

Edit: Brave for added Attack or Quiet for added Special Attack with lower Speed are probably worth it. Course, it would probably take a few restarts to get decent IVs and one of these two natures. Not to mention if you wanted a female starter...
You probably want a +Offense nature at the very least.  When I did my run, I went with a balanced nature, because I wasn't sure of the effects of a lowered defense or special defense on Torchic.  At the very least, you do NOT want to lower Special Defense; that would absolutely murder you against Tate and Liza.
Well, you cannot get Kyogre till after the elite four in Emerald.  However you CAN get a lvl 70 Rayquaza instead.  Unfortunately, its after the Liza and Tate battle.  Looks like the most difficult battles will be the Rival battles, Normon, and Liza and Tate.  Once you get Rayquaza its straight forward.

Off for a practice run myself to see how it goes.  I'm still not entirely convinced Torchick is better than Mudkip.
