I get a backstab on Ignus before he casts the spell and he takes less damage than Trias. Anyway, yeah, I'd love to be able to use that pickpocketed key or enter the foundry, but oh well. Also, I don't really need the boon so no problem here.

Funny thing: when you taunt the guards in front of the foundry gate (so that they are hostile) the game is over and it says: "A location vital to your quest has been cut off to you" :p

yeah, the game is pretty good at detecting when you can no longer win (much better than it is at stopping you from avoiding certain events, eg morte's capture Wink )

random question... are you playing with both the default version AND the default settings? when i used to play it I raised the fps up from 30 to 40 in the .ini file, makes the game seem a lot smoother and a bit faster... presumably this would be a no-no for a speed run though

Yeah, the only thing I changed in the .ini is that I set up virtual drives so I don't have to switch CDs.

By the way the only other way to the foundry would be to get the recipe from Iannis which is out of the question, because you need to get the dedaochcaoadydasdjaoirron from the Hall first.

Oh and Adahn, can you pls write in bullet points the plan for the beginning of the run? As in from Pharod - Alley...? Cause the beginning is the part I'm having the most doubts about. What would your plan be?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm not sure which bits you're having doubts about, but here's everything i can remember before lower ward:
- it is possible to drop morte at the start to avoid the small animation and dialog when you open the first door, if you use the stairwell on the left side when you come down from the 3rd floor you will end back in the starting room and can pick morte back up then... that might save some time. Only take what you need from the 3rd floor, of course, and if you don't need to buy stuff from mebbeth then that won't be very much.
- i like your idea of killing soego
- once outside you run straight to ragpickers square (unless you need to loot drcs along the way)
- train as a theif at ratbone
- go through the trash filled arch, get killed once in the tunnel so you get death warped to the village
- run straight to the gate and bash it
- from there run straight to the dead nations
- dead nations: i think you already know that you need to speak to hargrimm before stale mary (is that her name? i think it is)
- drowned nations: leave morte at the top so you can return to dead nations with him (obviously). I think there are two seperate places that have charms of infinite recall... you may need to hit up both of them... neither of them is very far out of the way for you to grab with nameless.
- If i remember correctly, you can kick morte any time after returning to dead nations, as you will soon get annah.
- use annah to warp back to the hive, you should be able to run straight through the tenement of thugs, pickpocketing the door or whatever it is you need to do in there.
- I think you already know the tactic for the alley, have someone run to the end while the other kills the dabus

Let me know if I've left anything out... I think you are thinking along the same lines as me with this new run now

Heh, dropping Morte to skip the animation is a good idea, but I'm not sure if it's actually faster...? I mean, going into the menu and kicking him and using TNO to pick up the 13 coppers in Dhall's room could actually be slower than keeping Morte and using him to pick it up while TNO runs.

The 13 coppers is in one of the drawers in the room with Dhall (I think it's that room), then 33 is on my route, leaving only 4 coppers to 50. Fortunetely, Soego sometimes drops 5 coppers so luck manipulation, here I come.

BTW do the rules allow to change difficulty during the run? I mean, max difficulty = 200% damage, which would speed things up when I need to die to death warp. But for Ravel and Trias, that would mean rather instant death...
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I'm fairly sure that wouldn't be acceptable.  Some runs are put in different categories entirely for which difficulty they're on, so I really doubt that changing in the middle of a run is legal.

Nvm, it wouldn't help that much anyway,

ANYWAY: I got a MUCH faster method of leaving Dead Nations!! Thanks to the people on polish Torment boards. Here's what I've learned:

If you die at any time while being in Dead Nations, you respawn at the catacombs entrance, from where you can enter dead nations again. When you enter you face the shut door, which you can open now, since otherwise you wouldn't be able to continue. Then you can just open the passage to drowned nations with no problems.

I'm very happy to find it out, it will cut quite some time Cheesy

really? wow...

with dropping morte, I think its faster, but the difference is so minor that its really up to personal preference... dropping is easy, the hotkeys are s, r, f

I guess if you need luck manipulation to get all your drc's, then you might as well use it to get your 50 coppers as well... I always visited both north and south rooms on the 3rd floor, so i never had a problem with money.
pierdole zdejmuje kominiare
Yeah, dropping Morte might be a bit faster, so I will do that.

It would seem that we really have done everything possible to shorten the time. I doubt there is a faster way to the foundry...but maybe. I'll wait a bit before starting, who knows, maybe I'll get some more help from that board Smiley

While I think of it, when you finish the run and are submitting comments, you might want to give mention to the work of Bion and Ekarderif in the other thread... both were involved heavily with the run planning. I remember that ekarderif was the only one that discovered the bash the gate in the buried village, for example. Just a thought.

I guess nobody is going to discover an amazing way to get into the foundry with less effort, or to leave curst prison without meeting cassius, or to get to curst gone without visiting baator... but i think torment fans will be impressed by the speed of the run

Ok, I will give them credit then! I wasn't actually aware of that, thanks for reminding me.

A thing I wanted to ask: What are the ways of leaving Outlands after coming back from the pillar? I did a test and I killed Fjhull after talking to him for the first time, and there was no game over or nothing like that. That would mean that there is another way of exiting the place, not involving asking Fhjull 'how do I get out of this crater". I searched a bit in Infinity Explorer, but couldn't find anything. Dunno where to search for it though. I'll do some more testing soon.

BTW, here's a rather funny but useless thing: http://files.filefront.com/PillarLolavi/;6443723;;/fileinfo.html

hehe, i'd forgotten about the dream sequence... interesting about fjhull, it could just be a bug of course

I'm just gonna sort this Fjhull thing out and then start recording.

I also finished a 2 DRC test run now. I got one drc from a random collector and the other from Nadillin.

For Ravel -> backstab, drc, backstab (requires one crit)

For Trias -> backstab, immediately restealth (you can restealth just as he is about to start his talk, skipping it and restealthing), backstab, he yields now, drc and run for it!!! I use the few seconds of drc invisibility to run away from the millions of sohmiens and trelons that block the way. This also requires one crit on Trias btw. I will also test an alternate method that involves killing him in one hit. Backstabs on him hit for 80-125 usually, and since he has 230 hp, if a backstab that would normally do 115-125 damage CRITS, then it would instantly make him yield, without having to worry about the annoying summons.

And my typical reaction after a crit finally occurs after 30 attempts:

Can anyone tell me what are the odds? You have to roll 20 (1-20) and have the normal backstab hit for 115-125 (when the min is 80 and max is 125) at the same time.

For Ingnus -> backstab (crit)

BTW, I've been searching for some stuff in the Infinity Explorer and I have to say there's so much funny and unused...characters, dialogues, everything, that it's really amusing. For example, there's a character called 'Testocles':

And something rather random:

I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
hehe... I'm pretty sure that in my testing I was able to backstab, drc, backstab trias so fast that he never got to summon his minions in the first place... but even if not, you will have annah in the party so you can leave with her, although that still might require a drc just so nameless doesn't die...

Unless you have more conversational options with the pillar of skulls if fjhull is dead, I can't see how you can skip talking to him the second time
pierdole zdejmuje kominiare
Well I don't know if the monsters spawn if Trias yields to you this hour mortal on the first hit because I couldn't be bothered to do it, but I would imagine they don't. Obviously the Pillar wouldn't know how to leave Fjhull's crater, because he doesn't know where he even is. I guess there's nothing left to do, so I shall start recording soon.

Cool, good luck!
Hi! Great to see that your making fine progress!
Im a bit confused by the thread title.... if the first run is finished and awaiting verification, is there any way to view it before release on sda? (Because like that game and i suck at waiting  Cry sry.)
Or did you scrap the first attempt and are redoing it now with a completly more awesome glitch route? ^^

Anyway, awesome efforts, cant to see the new/old result!

Hi Mr Positive,

It is not generally possible to view a run before it is put on the site, unless the person that made the run makes their own arrangements before submitting it.

Whether or not the first run is scrapped is probably up to mikwuyma. It may be in a different category because it doesn't use death warps, otherwise it may be put up briefly before the new run is submitted and verified, but we'll see.

EDIT: The thing is that the new one should be 5-10 minutes faster, but not much of that time is saved from adding death warps, the death warps probably only save 2 minutes. (those are just my very rough estimates, niebe would have a better idea)

And the new route is definitely more awesome, inluding a glitch that even I haven't seen before.
Thanks for the answer! As a long time reader of the site im quite familiar with its release system, though alot of people in the forum tend to upload their wip runs on youtube or another download system - as niebeziminienny did with a few early segments of his run - so it wastn that unlikely that hed upload the final thing somewhere else as well.

Also, i do think 5-10 minutes is quite an improvement fom 47 minutes! Guess with that much tricks i will have to rewatch the run a couple of times (once its out) to fully get whats going on.

Anyway, good luck with the recording! Im definitly keeping a watch on this thread.

Yeah, I will most probably ask them to remove the old one when I record the new version, simply because it pales in comparison.

So, any progress? Or is it a surprise?
