That sounds a lot better, thanks Paraxade.

Arrgg! The developers think of (mostly) everything! I didn't realize you couldn't control both captains at the same time on Frozen Tundra without assembling the bridge. I got Brittany over to Alf's area and had a way to get the cardboard box down but couldn't do the captain throw I needed. Probably would have been a "Inc invisible walls" moment anyway.

I'm terrible at finding things Tongue
Also, as far as timing is concerned, I'd rather we did NG+, because it's pretty much the same as NG except you can skip more cutscenes; NG seems rather pointless. The map being filled in is the weird part of it, but as far as I can tell it shouldn't make a difference, since it goes away after day 1 and it doesn't help on day 1 anyway. I guess we just need to have a rule for segmented runs that you aren't allowed to save and return to an earlier day? That could get annoying, since the game only has one save file and the Wii U makes it really difficult to back up your saves... but it's probably necessary, seeing as how it's not really a NG vs NG+ issue (you could do the same thing on a NG file).

So here is an example of falling OoB to respawn way past the loading zone. The image of the map technically does not exist and yes there is an invisible barrier, so I couldn't go any further.

The Gamepad image was taken by posting a post on Miiverse and then taking a snapshot on the upscaled preview on my capture card.. That's one way of taking high quality Gamepad images. Now I'm still waiting for direct capture (soft)mods of the Gamepad that supports video recordings.

EDIT: A better way can be done without having to post is done by.

Pressing X when the home menu is up, then go to Miiverse. After that just press X again and both screenshots from the TV and Gamepad are shown, press X one more time to show the direct gamepad screenshot.

For the New Day vs. Fresh File argument, it's also pretty tedious to make a fresh file, especially when a run needs to be restarted. For sheer practicality I think we should go with New Day.
I see no logical reason why we should use a fresh file, I say every speedrun should be done from a NG+ file.
I agree, with only having one save file a complete NG every run makes no sense to me.
About the fresh file thing, as a general statement I think people should cater the meta-level things about running a game more to the specific game and less to the general 'rules'. Every game doesn't really have a 100% or low%, and just so, pikmin 3 shouldn't have to be not 'NG+' for the simple fact that it it's harder to do and makes things less interesting.

As for mechanics, I've discovered a rather interesting glitch: if at the end of the day, there is a drop of nectar on the ground along the path that pikmin will take to get into the onion during the sunset cutscene, when they run into the nectar, they will stop to drink it and get flowered. They then go idle and disappear at the end of that cut, but don't get left behind at the end of the day. I don't know whether the flowering occurs if you skip the cutscene; that'd take more testing, but if it does, engineering that situation might save some time in an interesting way (and maybe even if you don't skip the scene)
Alright, so I got to the Sandbelching Meerslug arena before defeating the Vehemoth Phosbat and rescuing Charlie, but unfortunately, the boss does not spawn. The invisible wall surrounding the slanted 10 bag disappears as soon as you get a captain up on that ledge (over by the 5 pellet posy.) The way I got over with only 2 captains uses the dodge roll, so this wouldn't have saved a day anyway, but there might be some other way up there. (This trick may still be useful in an all fruit run since you could have the third captain off doing something else.) This should basically prove that cutting out Distant Tundra is impossible (despite the fact that you never actually need all three captains, and the place in Formidable Oak requiring yellows has yellow candypop buds right there.) Kind of disappointing, since this could have been a really cool sequence break, but oh well.

Here's the video. I might highlight this later, but start watching at about 18 minutes.

I also found a interesting (but useless for speed I think) way of getting into the second half of the Twilight River "from the back." Figured I'd show it in case there actually is some use for it in a route.

If there's a way to get the Meerslug to appear without Charlie, you could grab the Dodge Whistle and end the day, saving about fifteen minutes.

You never know, when a game is considered broken, someone goes and breaks it again (just look at OoT). That being said, inc Day 1 Out of Bounds Warp to Credits Sequence Break (jokes) Tongue

I haven't kept up with everything over the last few days. I know of the few minor time saving tricks in Distant Tundra, but has anyone found any major sequence breaks? I mean, it's relatively easy to complete in the day given (any%), but it really feels like it needs some game breaking magic.

I doubly agree (again) with New Day. I don't know if anyone has tried to do a run with a fresh file, but the amount of cut scenes (particularly at the start) is absolutely horrendous.
hello Greenalink, I'me actually running this game, and I tried to do your cut :Pikmin 3 Sequence break #2 - Garden of Hope [2]: Skip blue pot. I haven't found the set up to do it.
TheOnlyOne, you said that you got to the Meerslug early with the Dodge Whistle. What if you collected the Dodge Whistle, gave all of your Pikmin to Brittany, and used the method you used to get to the 20 ball without building the bridge? That would save almost half a day.
There is an invisible wall around the 20 ball until the bridge has been built.
Really? They thought ahead with this game. Sad
Yeah, there are a lot of invisible walls Sad

Alright, so we have a minor sequence break finally. You can skip rescuing Brittany on day 2 by clipping into a wall in the river you're supposed to throw a captain across, then fall on the other side. You can build the bridge and beat the boss as normal. Once the day is over, Brittany will be part of your team and the Distant Tundra will be unlocked. The game continues as normal from here. However, if you ever break the glass wall that is supposed to be protecting Brittany on a different day if you do this, the game will crash upon starting the multiple captain tutorial. I tested a bunch of random stuff surrounding this such as killing Alph after getting the phone and going back to break the glass at different times/with different captains, but it seems that for now this is just a small time saver on day 2 and doesn't lead to anything bigger yet.

Of note about the clip: you can land up on the ledge behind the electric fence and go into the cave. The enemies and slanted 10 box are all missing, but the balance and the grapes are still there, so this is a way to get one more fruit on day 2.

Here's a long video with about all the testing I did. If you're just interested in the clip, it's at 8:30.

Not really sure who all did what to put this together (finding the clip/oob,) but there is a way to get the the Twilight River Boss without putting a single bridge piece down. Of course you need to finish the bridge to get Louie and the fruit, but it would theoretically be possible to do this while fighting the boss. I doubt that a route like this would actually be fast though because of the time it takes to set up the oob and get to the boss.

Finally, a small trick in Twilight river: You can get flying pikmin to grab the Pear behind the bomb wall by throwing them or using charge. They will try unsuccessfully to carry it over, but will partially clip throw the wall. Now if you let them drop the pear and come back another day, the pear will be outside the wall.
Do you have any tips for Distant Tundra? I'm having a lot of trouble building the bridge before mid day.
Multitask the hell out of Distant Tundra. Never let either captain be idle.
Yay! Using the half-bridge glitch, I finished the Distant Tundra! I'll have almost a whole day for the SM, so that one should be easy, right?
I can confirm that Tropical Wilds is the easiest. Simply complete the bridge and kill the boss.

So skipping the Yellow onion has some interesting side effects on the later days after unlocking both Winged and Blue onions. Totally not useful for a speed run though.
Got a few videos in the making so don't expect them until part way through this week.

So you could play at 1 frame per second?
EDIT: I guess you could TAS the game that way.
Is it possible to complete Twilight River in one day? I complete the bridge, but I only have an hour left.

Finished that yesterday. I guess it's a good start.
