Pikmin 3 is a bit different in terms of structure, the majority of the story advances after completing certain objectives.

Complete the game as quickly as possible Any%

Day 1 - Tutorial. Charlie crash site, Alph crash site.

Day 2 - Garden of Hope
Find Rock Pikmin, Rescue Brittany, Defeat first major boss, pickup all 3 pieces. Fruit, Cell phone and body. Body gives you 50 pikmin.

Distant Tundra - 1 day is possible.
Discover Yellow Pikmin, combine 2 bridges, rescue Captain Charlie

Tropical Wilds -1 day is possible.
Solve 3 captain puzzle, defeat Sandbelching Meerslug and pickup both a fruit and device to unlock Twilight River.

Twilight River - ~ 1 day is enough to do everything required to progress into the game.
Do shortcut, collect Winged Pikmin, buildskip red bridge in area 2. Defeat the boss, pick up Louie and fingers cross to get through invisible barrier.

Garden of Hope - pt 2
Unlock Blue Pikmin to remove an invisible barrier, destroy dirt wall nearby.
Get the other 30ish Winged Pikmin and Lock On & Charge to pickup the blue bridge pieces nearby the boss entrance. This is enough to throw a captain and some pikmin over the uncompleted blue bridge. Kill annoying enemy crab and finish off the remaining blue bridge by destroying a crystal block that is storing the remaining pieces. You can reach to the main boss before the half-way point in-game clock.

If you are good, you can destroy the boss and collect the reward in 1 day.

Formidable Oak
The intro boss and the dungeon can be done in half of a day. The final boss time varies, if you can defeat it in ~under 6 minutes which is possible by using Spicy Sprays then this place can be done within 1 day!

Tips

Twilight River - Unlock Winged Pikmin in under 90 seconds!
http://www.gamefront.com/files/23573874/Pikmin3Skip.mp4

Winged Pikmin have no problem picking up fruit from hard to reach places by first fully locking on the target and then use Charge command.

Uses -
Scaly Custard at Tropical Wilds
Crunchy Deluge at Garden of Hope - Scales room.

Major Boss tricks.

Boss 1 Armoured Mawdad

- I tend to throw Rock Pikmin at the tip of the tail during the fight. Once that crystal protection is gone, I switch to Red Pikmin and throw a few at the tail. You can get a really lucky & fast fight if he stays still and isn't climbing on the wall, if that happens and you are nearby the weak point, you can use Charge command and loads of Red Pikmin will attack the tail weakpoint.

Unfortunately in a speed run perspective, the time it takes to defeat bosses varies because there is a reasonable amount of RNG involved.

Boss 2 Vehemoth Phosbat

You can power up the mega battery early by collecting 1 set of 25 bridge pieces. Then toss over 20 Yellow Pikmin and a captain to the mega battery side. Toss those 20 Yellow Pikmin to powerup the mega battery and the real fight begins.

Boss 3 Sandbelching Meerslug.

For full game attempts, bring some bomb rocks with you. Doing so is a reliable counter attack to Meerslug's arena trap attack, it also does enough to blast the boss up high and becomes vulnerable as he lands to the ground. If you don't have bomb rocks, don't worry as you can sacrifice a few Pikmin and there is a chance you can deal enough damage to immobilize it.

Boss 4 Scornet Maestro

2 Captains is recommended for this.
One captain controls all of the Pikmin while the other captain is lock on bait from the boss.
40 Winged Pikmin & 60 Red Pikmin should do the job.
You'll know when the boss will attack as the music dynamically changes, when that happens switch to the 0 Pikmin Captain and the boss will lock on to that captain. As that happens, switch back to your 100 Pikmin Captain and send in the Winged Pikmin in 2 sets, during the second set there is a good chance you can immobilize it and you can Charge command your Red Pikmin to deal massive damage.

Boss 5 Quaggled Mirecloips

30 blue Pikmin is enough to quickly stun a foot to immobilize the boss, throw Rock Pikmin to remove the crystal barrier.
Phase 2 starts, repeat the stun method and get on top of the boss. You can deal loads of damage if you wait until the counter attack starts. If you position yourself correctly you can Charge all of your Pikmin to attack the weakspot and avoid the counter attack. If some of the Pikmin are not attacking, go counter clockwise to dodge the boss's massive tongue.

Boss 6 Plasm Wraith.

RNG in a nutshell. As in where the elemental cube goes and what defensive element it will use. Winged Pikmin are the least useful because there are no good match ups against the elemental cube (can use either Water, Fire, Electric or Crystal Cube) and good luck trying to do a 0 death Pikmin run against this boss.

Any% is get to 'The end'

100% is get all 66 fruit pieces & power ups. I can't confirm if the Secret Memo on the Pikmin data book is required.
Will update the 100% definition later.

Oh, man! Super excited for this game. I don't know where you obtained all that information but it's good to know. I'm thinking it's time to get some Wii U games up on the site. Once I get this game on my console next week, I see myself playing it A LOT. Either this or Wonderful 101 as good speed run candidates.

So I have found a way to get over this wall, that is intended to be destroyed as you progress later on in the story.

Interestingly some of the objects/actors are missing. There isn't a Winged Pikmin door to pick up the Velvety Dreamdrop. The pikmin can't take the objects from that side of the map back to the ship and the enemies are non-existent, even the major boss of that section isn't there.

First major shortcut has been discovered in Twilight River:
As soon as you start this section of the game, you can unlock Winged Pikmin in under 90 seconds by going OoB to land on the other side, collect rock pikmin from your team mates and then rescue the Winged Onion

Still waiting to get my hands on this game and already its getting broken! Good finds, Greenalink.

Another major shortcut has been found. On the second mandatory visit of Garden of Hope. Right after discovering the Blue Pikmin, I have found a way to skip the pot platform/3 captain puzzle, doing so enables players to reach the major boss before the halfway point on the in-game clock!
Will make a video of it soon.

Wow! Great work Greenalink! I spent hours looking and was on the verge of finding a skip for the second Garden of Hope, but it looks like you've already found it now. I was looking for something really complex, but didn't think of the simple stuff Tongue

I've got a theory / idea for the Formidable Oak section (probably something you already know). I've only tested if it's possible and haven't planned it out yet (I'm going to presume it's faster for now until testing). It avoids having to build half of the bridge and having to get the light bulb over those light flowers.

- Light the Area Up with the first Two Light Bulbs (Middle Platform and Bridge)
- Build X Amount of Bridge
- Throw Britanny + Captain Over Unfinished Bridge
- Throw Britanny Over to the Exit Path
- Get Winged Pikmin to Lift Board
- Get Olimar Outa There!!!

When the battle starts, you'll have all your pikmin with you.

Also, confirmed Twilight River can be done in one day with new finds. I shouldn't have lazily planned the day though I was one second away from getting Louie back. Doh!

Oh nice work. I'm curious about how the second area is done 'quickly' there's a stupid invisible barrier on the other side of the red bridge.  I can't find any OoB -> fall somewhere else in Formidable Oak but I can confirm from your idea that I only need to light up one bulb, kill the spider and use the lift board is pretty quick.

I also managed to use the 10 bag ramp very early by spamming the dodge roll as the Winged Pikmin eventually goes up a wall. then after they are next to the pushing half of that object I use Charge command to force them to push it. This enables us to enter the red bridge construction section quickly. The route is pretty tight and very risky because Plasm Wraith is creepy.

In the dark room. I send Captain Alph to take ~33 winged pikmin. Toss 8 away from the blue bridge pieces, let the remaining 25 or so Winged Pikmin to pickup the blue bridge pieces. Then quickly command the remaining 8 to open the clipboard  that is nearby. The bridge pieces has to be instructed first before anything else because Plasm Wraith will eventually catch up be nearby Brittany who is nearby the blue bridge, as it goes up a ramp that is near the blue bridge it will be blocking other Winged Pikmin coming in to add pieces.

After the lift clipboard command, take Captain Alph to the blue bridge (Go Here method). Captain Charlie uses 10 Yellow Pikmin to activate one set of light flowers. Then as soon as all 3 captains are by the bridge here's what to do next.

Toss Brittany, Alph/Charlie and ~4-6 rock pikmn,

After that set of throws let Charlie/Alph be the 'leader' (contact Brittany) and take the Rock Pikmin to one of the platforms next to the lit up light flower.  Toss Brittany and the Rock Pikmin over to the otherside. The rock pikmin are used to kill the spider. Afterwards because the clipboard bridge is already unlocked thanks to Alph earlier on, you can walk to the exit. But be careful, Plasm Wraith can actually climb up a certain wall and block the exit

- Make sure 8-10 Winged Pikmin are carrying Olimar because:
A) They can fly over gaps
B) More pikmin carrying it = faster.

I got all of this recorded and it's even useful for a fresh file run*

* Fresh file is when you start a brand new file (unskippable text) as if you were playing it through for the very first time. The most notable difference is the map. A NG+ run (a completed file going back to day 1) will have most of the map discovered which enables you to use Go Here commands easily.

I've gone back and selected "New" on the day selection screen and from what I can see the maps are undiscovered starting from Day 2 (Day 1 has some default discovery). I've done some runs, using the "New" method, and have screwed up because of forgetting to walk along a section (therefore not being able to use Go Here!).

Going off what you were saying, does that mean that only a completed file (i.e. last boss defeated?) going back to "New" will save the map? It seems to make sense as I usually practice a few days between attempts which saves the progress and makes the save uncompleted (e.g. only up to day 3). I'd test it right now, but my files back at Day 2 now.

I can't really comment on the text though but I can add what I've experienced. All I've noticed is that I have to smash buttons through conversations on the spaceship before you select a day (e.g. Louie on board) and that I can't skip end of day stuff (i.e. smash buttons through fruit / letters). Other stuff like the winged pikmin onion cutscene (the one at the very start of Twilight River) can be skipped.

Hopefully everything I said makes sense Tongue

EDIT: Ive also noticed that while going back to any day that the map is already discovered for that day (from what happened) but not from any further on. This seems to explain why Day 1 is the only day to have anything explored when "New" is selected.

Also, completely unrelated, Garden of Hope kind of looks like Australia Tongue
DS Dictator
Ah, my bad about the whole map thing. I went back in time on my completed file for glitch hunting and my map was explored. I even use a different Nintendo ID to mess around the first 2 days (which was a fresh file) so no text skips/explored map (on day 2).
I went and deleted my save file off the system to confirm what happens with the text and cut scenes. As you were saying, a "Fresh File" does in fact make the text and cut scenes unskippable. It also looks like the Day 1 map area is discovered regardless. So here's a summary, if I understand correctly:

New Day: Most Text / Cut Scenes Can Be Skipped (Few Exceptions)

Fresh File: No Skipping Cut Scenes

I'm going to double check that the whole "the map remains undiscovered when going back in time except for the day you pick thing" tomorrow to make sure I didn't overlook something.

Which brings me to the subject of defining a standard for speedruns. I know there are usually predefined rules for this, especially on sites like SDA, and therefore am happy for it to go either way. If you want my opinion, as long as the map isn't affected (which I'll double check), a "New Day" makes the game more gameplay focused which makes it more engaging and fun.

I tried playing the game with the Wii Remote & Nunchuck setting.

Pros and Cons

+ Whistle Range is much longer.
+ Dual movement i.e walking forwards while whistle blowing away from the captain.
- Limited Camera control. Only the Z button changes the camera direction that functions in a very similar way to the 3D Zelda games.
- You can't pause the game to look up the map, you have to use the Gamepad to browse/use Go Here commands.

Gamepad
+ Camera Control
+ Lock on, literally locks on most of the time.
+ Touch the gamepad to see the map and use Go Here commands.
+ Can be charged up if the batteries are low
- Locking on limits your strategy of aiming at different spots, like aiming some at Bulborb's eye to stun it and then throwing some Pikmin onto the body.
- Limited whistle range and lacks the dual movement style.

Here are the videos:

Can't wait to pick this up!  Greenalink, I was just wondering if you've used the WiiU Pro controller yet, and if so how its different from the Gamepad with lack of touch-screen functions?
DS Dictator
I don't have a Wii U Pro controller. So I can't comment.
I was having a look at Tropical Wilds to see if you get that cardboard box down without doing all that stuff such as building the bridge. I wasn't really looking at speed aspects but I found some ways to get the captains on top of the "boundary" walls. It's made me realize how ridiculous the invisible walls are. Here's a video:

DS Dictator
A small note, not obvious after a casual playthrough.

Go Here command is unlocked by picking up a data file nearby the glass wall which is nearby SS Drake.
Without Go Here, rescuing Charlie on Day 3 (1 day visit) is too hard to impossible.

Found something that may be interesting:

if you walk against a wall while falling, you'll fall much slower. Here's an example usage in the tundra cave, by walking against the walls of the ice slide and moving towards the slope you can get onto them:
http://pasteboard.co/1CHVK6zT.png (no capture card don't h8)
Continuing the example you can get onto the outer walls of the level:
http://pasteboard.co/1CHKD5dv.png

EDIT: with careful movement you can actually walk around the whole room on the outer walls, going to dig deeper...
EDIT2: You can actually skip getting yellow pikmin by walking over the exit loading zone

This technique could possibly be used elsewhere (not sure, have yet to test), just thought that letting you guys know would be a good idea!

Jonyleeson, I tested out that glitch and I found a small clipping while out of bounds. It enables me to fight against Shaggy Long Legs with unlimited in-game clock. So the only use is getting the minimum number of days for all fruits easier.

Edit: This one was overlooked but if you skip the blue pot construction on Garden of Hope 2, then it means you can actually skip Blue Pikmin. Winged Pikmin are good replacements for the boss fight. The only obstacle you have to be careful when playing through Formidable Oak is to avoid dealing with the Water elemental cube.

Has the early Winged Pikmin trick been patched? I can't seem to do it. Is there some setup trick I'm not getting?

Edit: Never mind, I've got it working. Confirmed to be working in NTSC.
So I just completed my first playthrough of the game. I'm pretty stoked to start running this. Good finds so far, Greenalink.
It should be noted that you can use the "Go Here" functions with any controller. The touch screen on the GamePad functions exactly the same regardless of what controller you use.

There's also some potential for menus to be faster on the GamePad's touch screen by switching to GamePad-only mode.
Greenalink, out of curiosity where did you manage to clip? I've been trying for hours and have found nothing
