Im sure i can easily find a program online that will record the stuff happening on my monitor (like record me playing a game) But instead of ending up with a barely decent recording program, I'm asking if someone could tell me a good recording program. Maybe one that has been used for speed runs in the past.

FRAPS and Camtasia are what people on this site usually use. Both cost money to buy, but if you look hard enough you should be able to find versions which are... less than legal.  Wink
I think i can manage a discount  8)

i got fraps 2.7.4 and its just being stupid, I tested it on fable for pc and it first off made gameplay really slow, then when i watched it the opening logos and stuff look fine but were a bit choppy and then i watch the actual gameplay and the picture looked like if you were to throw a rock into a pool of colourful pixels. Then i tried a less graphical game starportGE and it made the gameplay so choppy which affected the video the same way and the colours were all dull. Any ideas why this is happening?
PwNzRd!
You need to properly set Fraps, for one. Two, it doesn't work for every game, so try Camtasia, and if that don't work, do what I do and enjoy a tasty potato salad dish.

Fraps is very cpu intensive. If your computer is not fast enough, then there really isn't anything you can do. (This is assuming you're recording at 640x480, 30 fps)

The colour thing, try starting the recording during gameplay to see if that changes anything.
