Do any of you plan on beating Vincent Merkin's 55 minute time? There also may be a PAL/NTSC difference in this game; I've never researched this particular game so I can't so for sure.

I've been doing a sort of planning run on my PSP between classes. In terms of weapons, you're going to want to build up the M4A1 until you can get the G3A3 in the Hospital. At that point, move all your stat-raisers over to that, and find weapons with Burst and Command x2 to break down. Burst would be perfect for any remaining fights in the game, and Command x2 allows you to fire two shots without losing power.
I don't think there are any useful status effect abilities. Perhaps Tranquilizer, Cyanide, or Acid, but I am unsure of how those affect the damage output.
How long do you think a correct speedrun of PE1 would last ?
EDIT: And could someone tell me what the Maeda's charm is for ? Luck in battle ? Storyline ? I remember something near the end of the game where we had to use a special gun but....
The Japanese run's time is about 2:46:xx out of the box, according to Ultima Garden. I don't think there was a run report available for that game, so I've got to come up with everything on my own unless I have some knowledgeable people helping me. =]
The game itself is 10 hours long, so it shouldn't be TOO difficult to figure out where time needs shaving.

That's right. In this game, the greatest problem will be about the strategies (to correctly custom weapons, deals with monsters without taking too much damage, perfect route...).

I thought it was in the 2:20's for out of the box and just under 2 hours for EX game? Guess my memory isn't all that great.:-p
