Thought I'd have a shot at the SS last night and lost it because UANMC didn't open the core again. This is the third time I think it's happened, twice on the PAL version and once here on the American version. It was a good run too but now it's left for the bloopers reel :p

Super Horse is THE run breaker because he can do whatever he wants when he's off screen (No.9 coming in second, and then UANMC cause I dunno what the fuck is going on with that thing). I mentioned that the fight went well for the SS but still I'm gonna get a back up plan going because once he gets random, you're his bitch and can easily lose up to 2 minutes. You're not supposed to fight him standing still and that's why it's a huge iffy using the explosive barrels. Necrosis helps a little but it doesn't poison him often enough for you to react when he bluffs and changes directions.

Well, atleast the game's not freezing anymore because I'm playing on the PS1.

Segmented run's half done. I've been stuck at Super Horse for a while now because he and the Vacuum boss are random. I'm also trying to get through the whole game taking only 3 hits. Any hits taken lose time but those 3 are unavoidable when going for speed.

Vacuum boss is another one that can eat up time. In the second fight he can do the poison gass over and over, losing you anywhere from 10-30 seconds.

Anyway, my net's capped but next month I should be able to upload some vids.
why isn't lucianoRXs speedrun on SDA????
Lost another SS run because of the exact same bull crap: UANMC didn't open the core again. I wasn't angry at all or anything when it happened, I was half expecting it as though it's normal. D: If I lose another run because of this I'll attack the head+neck like Luciano does.

I seriously gotta sort this shit out and figure out what's stopping it from opening up. Atm, I think it's me from changing bullets a little too late while UANMC's chucking a spastic. Luciano runs 2 steps to the side, changes bullets and then runs a little more after the core opens to get outta the way. I run 3 steps to get outta the way first, and then change bullets so I can start shooting immediately.

I really liked the run but I wouldn't have sent it in anyway because I made a huge mistake and attached the wrong bullets, regular Magnum bullets instead of the Maeda SP, for that fight. Whoops. >__>

Uploaded a video of that failed attempt. Looking at it again I definitely wouldn't have sent this in. Way too many mistakes and half the bosses were bad. I was 50 seconds faster than Luciano when I reached UANMC, but that's actually really bad, I should be atleast 1:40 ahead.

The run was over when UANMC's core didn't open at 1:22:45. I kept fighting anyway so I could actually fight Eve for once and finish the game. I let myself get killed when I realised I attached the wrong bullets... >__>

Here's what's happening in the run:

Akropolis Tower
0:01:01 - When a choice shows up you can't accept anything until a second later, so that little mistake didn't lose any time. I don't know why, the game is just like that.

0:01:20 - The FMV sequence. Just holding forward will cost you time so you have to avoid the invisible walls. Have a look at Luciano's run and listen to where the music is when we both reach the end. Basically, if the camera ever stops moving when you're in control, you're losing time.

0:02:55 - I didn't need to pick up those bullets because of my No.9 strat. Literally found this out 5 minutes ago. Even with a bad No.9 fight, I still had a clip left. The tutorial thing is exclusive to that box, so you won't see it in Dry Field. 3.5 seconds to be saved.

0:03:22 - My button mashing's gotten better to the point where I don't need to press 2 buttons anymore to skip messages at doors (if they get to scroll at all it means I was too slow). I was happy to beat the music. Smiley

0:03:45 - Momma Stranger. No criticals, so I lost a bit of time.

0:05:07 - Blue Key get. I think the rats noticing you is random. What I did was wait a little before going to get the key instead of moving straight away. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I lost 2 seconds instead of 3 because I didn't get bitten.

Weird thing with button mashing is that no matter how fast you are, sometimes the game just won't register and you'll end up slower. Compare how fast I picked up the Blue Key to when I used it.

0:06:59 - Fish dodge. This depends on luck. Just run to the right side and hope the third bite connects while you're recovering from the second (you have some i-frames during recovery). Sometimes the last fish shows up early (good), sometimes later (bad).

0:07:50 - Number-bloody-9. This is where I considered not sending this in. I already retried for about an hour and thought, "Fuck it. Just keep playing".

Anyway, this was the 2nd worst outcome. What happens is when No.9 walks beyond the gas pipe, he will flame slash you for a one-hit kill, and with this strategy and some luck you want to kill him before he can. Once he starts the attack you can no longer knock him back and you're fucked, but you can unload in his face without stopping.

Because I got no criticals this wasn't going to happen, so I hit him with Pyro to keep him away. Now he's back to normal fighting and slashing my face, slowing me down even more. If that wasn't bad enough, he's defeated with a critical and I have to sit through his recovery Angry

Dry Field, Day
0:10:10 - Up until the Water Tower, there's nothing to talk about.

0:13:16 - Water Tower Fight. I killed the first 2 Horses because they were right there. Killing any outside means less to fight inside the fence. What I do different from Luciano is using maxing out Pyro, instead of conserving it so my MP is fully recharged by the time I reach No.9.

In all the fights leading up to No.9 you can get quite a lead on Luciano, but you have to recharge MP by reviving Necro. Most of the time saved is gone because of this, so in the end you're only half a second faster than him. You don't have to worry about getting criticals and this way is 100% reliable.

0:15:08 - Not much but this was probably the fastest I ever did this room. The Mosquitos barely got off the ceiling.

0:15:43 - I cast Pyro a little early, so the Horse didn't get knocked down. I didn't realise I had enough MP to cast it again instead of shooting and still have enough for the Mosquitoes. My strat is ruined now. >.>

0:16:23 - People have asked why not fight the Mosquitoes here. These aren't the same ones you fight when you get the Rope, they're different after you talk to Douglas in the caravan. There are actually 5 Mosquitoes here instead of 3.

0:19:39 - I stop and then turn because if I moved forward anymore I would have triggered the fight.

0:22:46 - No.9 Absolutely shit house fight. My timing was too early so I didn't chain more than 2. I was supposed to chain all 5 and then get grabbed. The timing is real tight-ass but worth it. This shit fight was almost 50 seconds. I should have reset :|

I think this is the fastest strat. Using the MP Boost dropped by the Horse outside the garage, the fastest you can get is 19 seconds: chain 5 Pyros, dodge and use MP Boost, and then chain 3 Pyros. You also have to spend time attaching it. Let him grab you and you get a flat 17 seconds.

Dryfield, Night
0:24:03 - Dodging the Scorpions requires luck. The second one turned around, so I couldn't avoid it. I got lucky later on so this was evened out :|

0:24:28 - This cutscene is wierd beause if you skip it straight away, Aya will turn and walk away from the car. Her walking carries over from the cutscene, and at that distance you'll do less damage with the gun. I let her walk a little before skipping.

0:24:32 - 10 Rabbits. This is an annoying fight because you have to keep an eye on which one Kyle is shooting. You want to down as many as possible with Pyro+1 burst while Kyle deals with the others. Kyle's pistol has awesome criticals, but he's better off killing ones you're not aiming at until you've run out of MP.

I don't kill the first Rabbit because it's out of Pyro range, so I help Kyle to kill it when I get the chance. Despite me wasting a Pyro from Kyle's kill stealing, this was a good fight because Kyle spread his fire afterwards. I don't walk forward because I don't want to lose half a second from the camera change.

Just a random note. You know the far camera angle facing the shop, gas station and Aya's car? If it looks like you're walking straight towards the camera, you're not actually walking in a straight line to the gate. That's why I'm walking a little to the left.

0:27:00 - There's a fight in the garage here with Stalkers (they have 4 legs but people still call them spiders >__>). I don't know why, but sometimes you can get out without triggering the fight and sometimes not.

0:27:31 - I love the Horses (aren't they cows?). They're so stupid :p Interesting note: they can't kill themselves by caving their faces in, only get down to 1 HP.

0:28:34 - When putting this route together I thought it was suicidal to skip the Holy Water in an SS. It's not that bad because the game has damage scaling, like in fighting games. When you're health is at or below 50 HP, attacks start to do less damage. If it weren't for this, running the game would be harder and I'd be dying half the time at Cannon Mouth.

You can see the damage scaling in action in said fight:
100 HP - 25 dmg = 75 HP
75 HP - 25 dmg = 50 HP
50 HP - 19 dmg = 31 HP
31 HP - 17 dmg = 14 HP

After 4 attacks I'm still alive with 10+ HP. I'd be dead by now without the damage scaling. Holy Water allows me to survive more hits, basically, but it's not necessary (though having a free upgrade for Metabolism when I fight Eve is always welcome).

0:32:11 - Cannon Mouth. The fight starts with me getting flamed in the face >__> I'm always nervous fighting him because the only inconsistency is Necrosis, the crucial part of the fight. The poison takes effect randomnly within 3 to 4 seconds, so Cannon Mouth always has a chance to attack before it is supposed to be poisoned, defeating the purpose of Necrosis in the first place. Necro can also hit him twice, giving him an even better chance of attacking.

I delayed the second last grenade to make sure he couldn't hit me while I was reloading. Necrosis wore off, so there was no chance of me dying. I wonder what would happen if we both killed each other?

Using the Protien Capsule changes the inputs for attaching stuff later on, which I completely forgot about. An extra 5 HP doesn't make a difference (I seem to take more damage than usual, but maybe it's just me).

Luciano had the fucking awesome idea of using Energy Shot 1 for this fight, which saves 2-3 grenades. Without it I wouldn't have saved any, so I'd have to spend a minute buying grenades from Douglas before changing discs. Those saved grenades is exactly what you need for the Super Horse and you can buy grenades later in the Shelter.

0:34:59 - Lucky dodge. The scorpion walked away from me, so I could run past it.

Mines
0:36:50 - Horse Ambush. Not much to say here. I kill 2 of them with Pyro because it's faster than letting them run off the cliff. I had a grenade to spare (fights finish a little faster with guns than with PE) but I didn't want to use it because of the next fight.

There's not much to say about the Mines. A bit of running back and forth, upgrading Energy Shot to level 2 for the boss, beating the boss, and then leaving. This, up until you reach the Army Tent, is a long stretch where you try not to get hit. You're showered with health items but I don't want to heal more than once.

0:39:16 - The game froze here for some reason at the camera change. This is the first time it's happened on the American version. A failed PAL run I had last year froze in the next room for about 10 seconds.

0:40:57 - Super Horse. First round went fine: either the bite or the jump attack are what I need.

There's a chance he'll do the ambush attack instead, where he runs to the opposite side of the room and waits for you. You have 3 options:
-flush him out with Pyro or a grenade
-let him hit you, run to a barrel and hope he doesn't do it again
-run up to the barrel he's facing and blow it when he tries to attack (very tight because Aya's so slow)

Second round was bad. I messed it up at the first barrel and then it went down hill from there with him going random. I forgot for a moment that Necro doesn't flush him out of an ambush. I was surpised I didn't get hit after waving my ass in his face, running so close around him.

0:43:53 - Dodging this Stalker is pretty easy. Just run around when he attacks and he should miss, because he swings around. I barely dodged it after getting stuck on the corner.

Shelter 1
0:45:22 - Some more running around. The only worry here are the Fatties with their smoke and poison attacks, and the ANMC with its grab in the Sleeping Quarters. A Fatty missed me somehow before I got to the Amory.

0:47:30 - I run along the far wall in the Breeding Room to avoid the worm things. I have to do this again later to avoid the Floor Fatties.

0:49:22 - Vacuum Boss. Can't believe I stuffed up the first round and lost 5 seconds. Second round was perfect: no poison gas, and the second vacuum finished right when the platform raised up, so I could run across it straight away without being slowed.

0:53:17 - This is one of 3 hits I deliberately take. Up to the Pod Access I only got hit once, in the Operating Room when I picked up the Eau de Toilette, which was okay. I'm still nervous because the Pill Bugs later can really fuck you up. And after them, you have to take 2 hits from machine guns on the way to the Car Park.

0:56:00 - When you're doing puzzles the arrow slides a bit when you release a direction. I've fucked up royal on the computer password lots of times before because I didn't notice it sliding to the next key until the computer said I was wrong, so I've been doing this a bit safe since.

That question about H.Klaup was pretty bad. Haven't had that question in ages and I answered it from memory about PE1.

0:57:19 - Sad I'm getting nervous now. After this I go see Kyle, unlock the Car Park, turn on the Neo Ark elevator, turn off the security guns, and then I'm off to Neo Ark.

Neo Ark
1:00:40 - Messed up a little on the puzzle. Luciano and I do this a little differently but in the same number of moves.

1:01:16 - When fighting the Generators you're within range of the computer when the camera changes, so you don't have to run up to it. It's especially useful for the second Generator because you're teleported to its front when it dies. I destroyed the strategy when I didn't turn enough to hit the first one and lost 5 seconds.

Intresting thing is that Pyro will do double damage to them when you get in front of their face. It's slower than just using grenades though.

Unrelated note: Testing these fights were nightmares to set up because the nearest save point is waaaaaay back in the Shelter, and then there's clearing the way of enemies to minimise the time it took to actually get to the Generators. It also takes about a minute just to load the save. Really fucking annoying, but all that work was definitely worth it. ^_^

1:02:00 - Avoiding the Pill Bugs is a bit random. You generally always start from the left and then run forward and hope they're out of the way when the camera changes. They stayed out of the way both times, which is awesome.

There's not much to say about Nero Ark, in general. Running around doing whatever is boring but the Pill Bugs keep you nervous and on your toes because you never know what's going to happen.

1:03:40 - The Pill Bugs here can also fuck you up because you don't know where they're moving until the camera change. Getting hit loses you 3-4 seconds on the spot, so waiting a little until they get out of the way is a good idea.

1:04:28 - I turned too early and ran into one of the worms. Getting more nervous. I got the damage scaling backing me up but I'm still worried about taking the 2 machine gun hits later on and losing 10 HP from using the Eau de Toilette in the Giant Bowman fight.

1:08:10 - I freaked out a bit here and still healed just to make sure I wasn't going to die on the way to the army tent. There's a couple of Armoured Golems that can whack you hard if you mess up. It turns out this was a good decision and you see why later on.

Who the hell thought it was a good idea to make the player identify items before/when using them?

Shelter 2
1:09:17 - The closest I ever got to the elevator here was reading the sign on the side. I don't know if it's possible to avoid this fight altogether.

1:09:26 - You can open the PE ring here and not pause the FMV, so you don't have to switch spells in the next fight. Half a second saved :p

1:09:53 - You can do this fight without raising your weapon and just use Pyros, but it's slower than what I do here. Blowing up the Fatty saves time from not watching him fall to the ground and dissolve. This is also the only fight where Aya doesn't do her reload animation, so using the grenade launcher here is even faster.

You may of may not have seen it, but aiming your weapon will target the first speaker so you have to cancel that before moving foward. This is why I'm not locked on to the Fatty but looking in his general direction. The Pyros will hit the speaker next to him if you look too far right.

1:10:22 - Giant Bowman. Not much to say. Stuffed up again with the PE ring but that's it for mistakes. As my MP is draining I'm looking for another oppurtunity to top up Energyshot because just one won't last the whole fight.

I figured out a way to keep his shield down when he does that fire attack, so I won't be fighting this way anymore. The fight in the video took about 88 seconds and 20 grenades. Keeping the shield down, you can steam roll the boss in 56-58 seconds and 10 grenades. I love Necrosis <3

1:12:52 - This is the first time I got Eve moving on the first try (it usually takes 2-3). Now off to the Army Tent.

1:14:26 - For some reason you can close the battle results much faster when running from the Golems. Usually closing it fast depends on your console. If it hiccups, you have to wait 1-2 seconds longer before you can close it but if it's in a good mood you can close it before the BP shows up.

When items are dropped after fights, you can't close the results straight away. You have to press X once before it goes to items. So if you want to drop items fast, you can't just mash square/circle first, you have to press X once before doing so.

1:14:54 - Here's where I would have died if I didn't heal. I messed up running around the Golem and got hit by the lasers and then stabbed for a whopping 40 damage. There's no way I would have survived the machine guns.

1:15:28 - You have to go around again on B1 floor because the other door is locked again.

1:15:40 - This isn't as dangerous as it looks. Just run on the left side and you'll avoid he Golem's slash completely. Running on the right side might have you knocked in the back of the head. These are the other 2 hits I take deliberately.

1:15:50 - Stopping here is deliberate so I could avoid the fight. You can't stop for too long, or the second Golem will still see you.

1:15:59 - I run along the left side before the fight so the Armoured Golem would either shoot or cast silence instead of whacking me in the face.

1:16:11 - I stuffed this up and ran too far into the room. Running along the left lockers will avoid getting grabbed by the Ghost Golem, saving 4-5 seconds. You can avoid all 3 Ghosts on the way to the Army Tent by running along the walls.

I really hate how you have to watch Aya aim her weapon again after recovering from a hard hit or getting up or whatever. Getting caught like this between 2 melee Golems will have you repeatedly slashed for no reason.

1:21:22 - I really wanted to save here so I could see later how I did compared to Luciano.

1:21:56 - I didn't find out until I did my last L rank run, but the extra 5 HP from the Protien Capsule actually does help and allows me to barely survive 2 of the UANMC's red laser attacks. Without the Protien Capsule, I'd have to heal before fighting it.

1:22:17 - UANMC. My plan here was to take 2 head lasers and then heal before killing the second shoulder. It's a bit hard to keep track of how much HP a shoulder has left (they have about 700 HP each) when the criticals are so stingy and I stuffed it up here. And then look what happens after I heal...

Going after the head and neck, you have to perfect oppurtunity to heal when you're avoiding the neck's attack.

And that's it. Hope you enjoyed watching me die >__>

Granted, I've not been paying that much attention to Parasite Eve 2 speedrunning in the past, but in your failed attempt you skipped alarming many enemies I didn't think were possible to stealthily get past by. Very nice playing. Awaiting to get to read the rest of the commentary.

of course. they look like spiders. it doesn't matter how many legs they have. it's silly to base your definition on how many legs someting has, or if it lays eggs or not. it's better to just define them by their looks.

cows? don't make me laugh. cows are fat. they are not horses either though: they are mutant camels.

by the way, do you think it would be better to use energyshot 2 and necrosis 1 instead of energyshot 1 and necrosis 2, if you had enough exp?
Hey, aren't you gonna finish that post? It's been more than a week since you edited it.
Actually, officially, the rabbit and spider ANMCs are called Gremlins and Stalkers respectively. The game calls the cows "pumas" or something to that effect, but I definitely think they're more bovine in nature.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bovinae

Upgrading to Energy Shot 2 seems to make more sense. How much poison damage does Necrosis do exactly?
I could've sworn it was from the newspaper article about Dryfield saying Douglas was killing his mutated cows and there's a picture of him with the dead Chaser. Huh? You get to find out their real names in Neo Ark but it's been ages since I actually read those things.

Quote:
by the way, do you think it would be better to use energyshot 2 and necrosis 1 instead of energyshot 1 and necrosis 2, if you had enough exp?

I'm don't know, I never tested that because there's not enough experience. It will cost 3000 exp, and by the time I reach Cannon Mouth I will only have 2643, which is barely enough for Necro 2 and Energy Shot 1 (2500).

And I'm sorry for not updating the comments. I just recently figured out a new strategy for Giant Bowman and then got caught up modifying the current route for an L rank run. I'm still doing a straight up any% speed run, I was just curious about how an L rank run would turn out (suprisingly, it's not that much different).

Anyway, you know how Giant Bowman's shield goes down when he does that explosion attack, and then your attacks temporarily do double damage? It's possible to keep it down for the rest of the fight and save a whopping 30 seconds. So now I only need 10 grenades for that fight instead of 20-21. With this, grenade shortage is impossible in an L rank run (I just did a test run and still had 14 grenades left, more than enough to kill Eve). Last thing I need to do is test an (Energy Shot 2 fight) vs. (Energy Shot 3 fight+time taken to upgrade the spell).

I also tested the UANMC a whole bunch and still don't know what's stopping it from opening the core when I kill the shoulders. Only thing that's working is it does open if I don't change the camera while UANMC is throwing a fit. This is very important for an L rank run because shoulders+core only give you 300 exp (head+neck+core = 500 exp), meaning you can kill 2 of Eve's clones instead of 1 without losing the rank.

Anyway, I'm free now so I'll finish with the comments a little later.

yeah, i was just wondering because in nightmare mode, you have enough exp because it requires less experience to revive spells in that mode.

i was gonna comment on your bowman boss fight. i noticed that you used no necrosis for example, which is pretty useful. plasma would also be useful to keep the shield down, but maybe you have a better way to do it.

Quote:

probably if the UANMC is attacking (like in your fail run, he attacked with the red laser) or preparing to attack at the moment when you destroy the last shoulder prevents the core from opening.
So I was doing some testing for Eve and had a fight where she died after taking only 6300-6400 damage, which is roughly half of her HP (12,500). I was using grenades and the first one already blew up her lower body O_o My broadband's already capped but I'll upload the fight in 1 or 2 weeks.

I don't know if this was a one off thing or if it was some amazing glitch. It's right up there with hitting the Super Horse twice with one Airburst grenade or hitting No.9 at Akropolis three times with a single Pyro.

Anyway, I tested Energyshot 2 fights for Giant Bowman. It's pretty much as fast as an Energyshot 3 fight, but the Fatty fight before it will take 4 seconds longer because I'm no longer recharging my MP and can't spare the 16 MP for 2 Pyros. So both fights are evened out.

Energy 2 Bowman fight +slower Fatty = Energyshot 3 Bowman fight +upgrading Energyshot -faster Fatty
Quote from sshplur:

yeah, i think that has happened to me too when i used grenades on her.
Still haven't figured out why Eve's HP is all over the place. After how many fights her HP has gone from 6000, to 9000, to 10,000, to 12,500. This is all in New Game, 2 files: one where I got 100% kills and the other a speed run file. These fights were all with the Grenade Pistol as well, her HP was always 12,500 when I used the Mongoose.
I have some files saved at UANMC, all in New Game, and things are getting weird. Remember how the UANMC might not open the core after you kill the shoulders? In certain save files the core never opened, no matter how many times I tried, but it did for the other saves... Does this mean it's decided from the start?

If the core doesn't open again in an SS I can just blow off the damn shoulders with Pyro, so it's not that big of a time loss. In an L rank run though this is completely fucked because you'll have to kill the head and then hope Eve doesn't create any clones.
Ok, UANMC problem solved. ^__^ Seriously, I'm cheering because the fat fucker's no longer a problem.

I still don't know why Eve's HP is jumping all over the place, though, so I'm still on the fence on about using Grenades on her instead of Magnum bullets. I could run out of grenades, or get killed, or end up with a ridiculously slow fight if she's at max HP. 32 grenades sounds like a lot until you run out.

With the Giant Bowman strat I have to heal before fighting it. When you're Beserkered, you're PE shares your HP bar instead of MP until it wears off and they're also worth double the amount. I'm gonna be half dead after the fight, so I'll always have 55 HP left, which is enough to take anything on the way to the Garage.

This extra healing is a huge relief because not only is this faster, it's safe since it's after the Pill Bugs. 105 HP should be enough to take anything that goes wrong from Cannon Mouth, to the end of Neo Ark.

doesn't parasite eve always die much faster if you use grenades on it? maybe the hp only jumps all over the place if you use different weapons than grenades.

VIOLENce!
Hey, guys. I discovered a new trick while playing on Nightmare Mode. It may be possible to defeat the Ultimate Being before opening the core. Try aiming fragmentation grenades directly below its head. Here's a demo video:

Edit: Hmmm... I tried this a bit more and I think I spoke too soon. It seems that it not easy to execute reliably at all. Still, if someone can use the video to find a better way...
You don't shoot people in the dick. That is NOT COOL, Butters.

It looks more like a vagina to me, but whatever. XD
Still, it's not cool. And doesn't finish the run any faster.

Would it not be faster to just load only its face full of lead anyway?  I mean, you can endure all of its attacks and still win with enough healing.

If you can find a sweet spot to stand, where you can hit him constantly in the core, then I think you can take him down much more quickly this way. After the head is gone, aim for the neck. If he is still around after the core appears, it will already be damaged considerably.

Now, I was under the impression that it is constantly, slowly slithering towards you, and you can stand on the highest point until it gets too close, then maneuver to where its back was to remain on higher ground, but it will be so far away that it cannot slap you and cannot blow you to smithereens with its core until it inches close enough.

Are you implying that it is possible to find one surefire spot where you will never take damage?  I always just take the blast to the face and heal a little health to take another blast since it only takes you down to 1 HP, if I remember correctly.

The current strategy of taking hits while blowing away the body could be modified into taking hits while blowing away the unexposed core. Getting hit is definitely unavoidable for speed.

Good.  In that case, I am curious as to what parasite energies you will be investing in.  Energyshot is a definite must, correct?
