I just compared our segments. He's 20 seconds ahead of me regardless because he's playing on the PS2 (I'm on PS1), though I'm not sure where he's gaining. I mean, my PS1 loaded rooms faster than his PS2 early on... The segment's in the bin anyway because I'm redoing it.
I came up with a strategy for No.9 that saves 5 seconds (15 seconds total on Luciano alone). Hard as HELL to pull off, in practice I only got it once every 20 minutes. It's not any less random, either. Any criticals before the pipe, or a critical at the last hit, or any of No.9's dicking around, and it's all fucked. I'll probably go mental before I get pass this brick wall.
I know, I meant to finish this in June, a year since I started running this. >_> If I keep finding new strats like the one for No.9 before, it's gonna take even longer to finish. It's pretty annoying when it happens because it means, 'Stop everything, practice this new thing first'.
I lost motivation and was burnt out after that last failed attempt, where I died at the UANMC. I took bit of a long break after adding Luciano's stuff to my route, but I'm back into it now. More importantly I don't want to rush this but take my time and give it everything I got. I really want to optimise this as much as I can, perhaps to Zeno and Trevor's standards (did I really say that?). And I'm a really, really slow worker :p
what's the difference between any% and low%? low% is when you go as fast as possible, right? and any% is a run where you can choose how many percent of the game you want to do. it can be anything between 0 and 100%. for example 69.666%. personally i think any% is a pretty weird category.
http://files.filefront.com/PE2+1+sshplurmp4/;12087819;/fileinfo.html I got a segment 1 with 6 minutes at Dryfield In real time, I'm 5 seconds ahead of Luciano This is a good sign, I never beat 7 minutes before. There were 6 seconds of mistakes, half of which were lost at the rats by the blue key (I don't know how Luciano didn't trigger the fight. It might be luck because it can also happen when you come in from the other side).
I shouldn't have cast Pyro at No.9, it made the fight half a second slower; I completely forgot that 2 criticals happened because I was really nervous. I almost reset after the first critical because I thought the plan was ruined but I decided to try to improvise. Not only did the fight work out, it was even faster than my best :O
it is possible to reupload it in other server like rapidshare? i'm more than 15 minutes trying to dowload it here and always get messages like "Your download has failed. There were no available download servers." i think this server doesn't like me lol i never sucessfully downloaded something there lol
I'm gonna redo segment 1, as much as I don't want to >:(. I can get through the whole game without healing, so this means I didn't have to take the Recovery 2 or drop the Tonfa and GPS in Aya's car, all I needed was the 4 grenades. The only healing items I'll be picking up are for the Eve fight and the Recovery 2 I already have is reserved for the UANMC.
Chances of getting another 53 second No.9 fight are slim, so I'll probably stick with 55 seconds. The worst that can happen is 57 seconds, where there's no criticals and I'll have to cast a Pyro before he can kill me, which defeats the whole purpose of redoing the segment in the first place. Shit...
When I used to have this game i used to do personal speedruns all the time. I think my all time best is around 1:35 or so. I used to have know all the best strategies for each enemy & boss. It's a shame I dont have PE2 anymore or I'd submit a run of my own...if I knew how, that is.
It took 2.66 seconds to take the Recovery 2 and drop the Tonfa+GPS in Aya's car, so I have to beat No.9 in 53 seconds anyway. This will only affect attaching and equipping stuff because items will be in a different order; the run will look exactly the same even if I did drop/take stuff in Aya's car. We'll see if those 2.66 seconds end up being lost later on.
Anyway, therefore 9 seconds can be saved but 2-3 could still be lost at the rats by the blue key... I'll continue with the other save while redoing segment 1 on the side. >__>
Right, finally got done testing and I'm definitely gonna redo segment 1. I've also figured out how to avoid the rats at Akropolis.
Take = GPS+Tonfa taken. Drop = GPS+Tonfa dropped into Aya's car.
Below is how attaching is affected by the 2 routes. equip Grenade Pistol, attach Grenades, attach Eau de Toilette Take: 2 inputs 3 inputs 3 inputs Drop: 0 inputs 2 inputs 4 inputs
After equipping the Mongoose, the Grenade Pistol shifts everything below it down one slot. It sits in slot 8 for Take, and sits in slot 1 for Drop. attach Eau de Toilette, 0.44 Maeda SP, Recovery 3, Ringers Solution Take: 5 inputs 6 inputs 3 inputs 4 inputs Drop: 5 inputs 6 inputs 2 inputs 4 inputs
With the 'Take' route I have to cancel 2 items drops to make room for the Madea SP, Mongoose and 0.44 Magnum bullets. After Cannon Mouth no one drops 2 or more items without something I need, and it's not worth cherry picking from them. So my only options are 2 of 3: Vacuum 2, Generator 1 and the Fatty before Giant Bowman. Taking all this into account, Take is 1.9 seconds faster than Drop.
I heard that there's a glitch where Motel room 6 is unlocked before you're supposed to get the key from Douglas in the garage. I'll still have to do the garage puzzle but this glitch means I just have to do it later, after the Water Tower fight. So far I haven't figured out to do it yet but this should save 15+ seconds. Awesome :3
And it turns out avoiding the bloody rats is random afterall
I'm back to the half way mark for the segmented run. I was going to upload it when I figured out a way to get a faster UANMC fight. Before, I just copied Luciano because I couldn't figure out a way to reload and heal before the core opened while killing his shoulders, so the faster fight back fired. Luciano killed the head+neck, which gives you the perfect oppurtunity 100%, but they have more HP. I also noticed an embarassing mistake in the Super Horse segment. I love fighting the Super Horse. Rainbows and sunshine
I did a segment 1 run for no reason and got a whopping 3 minutes at the hotel room. It wasn't any different from the one I uploaded before, except my PS locked up a couple of times for about 7 seconds and also had a really bad No.9 finish: last hit was a Pyro, so I had to watch him stagger before the fight ended. I didn't have enough time to reload before his one-hit kill :(.
I'm guessing this is why the clock got so fucked up before. This is a heads up in case anyone notices a funny time from a slow segment.
Haven't posted anything in ages because I figured there's no point in saying anything unless I had a whole run or atleast a segment to show. Now my computer recently got completely fucked and I lost all my vids, so I have to start over.
The basic rundown is I can save time over Luciano in every segment. I'm a whole minute ahead of him by the time I reach Cannon Mouth, for example. The only bosses I can't improve on atm is Giant Bowman (that's as fast as it gets), UANMC and Eve.
There's also an extra segment, right before Cannon Mouth, to avoid changing discs to save 9 seconds. This also allows me to try a million times to get a no damage fight, 2 of the fastest fights I know of.
The other fastest fight is deliberately getting hit immediately after firing a grenade to cancel the recoil and reload straight away, but this is totally dependant on necro's poison, which is a random fucker that gives me nightmares (What's up Duke and Carci :p).
That's that. I'll start posting vids again as they're done, probably on youtube or something.

How much time have you spent on this thing already? I got bored with it after about a week and you're still working on it after all this time?:-p
