About the timer: I read somewhere that it overcompensates if you're playing the PAL version. It was adjusted to compensate for the slower gameplay, but it actually records a better time than it should. Can anyone confirm that?

I'm sorry Half, I'm not entirely sure on the whole PAL/NTSC (Thats correct, right?) differences, so I couldn't even begin to know that :\

Mystery - Sorry :\ I always keep my sound on balanced, so I never noticed. I'm guessing its because the VCR I use to display the image onto a tv only uses a single sound port for input and output. Sorry but considering the audio works and sounds perfectly fine (at least in the sense that its not all scratchy and distorted) I'm not majorly concerned about it, but considering I've never been big on sound, should I be?
It is rather annoying. I would be glad if it's fixed, but don't put it on your priority list!
A working run and new segments to watch is more important, if you ask me.
Honestly I wouldn't be able to fix it at this time :P, I may have a way, but that could also just mess up everything, I'll see what I can do.

As for the extra segments they could take awhile, Koopa Bros fortress loves to give me trouble, and after that is what could be the longest segment I have planned (which means I have plenty of time to make stupid errors).  Even in those segments I still found the time for stupid little errors. I'm hoping they don't take long, but its very possible they will (I mean look at the  5 minute segment, it had 48 resets to get it like that).

If my "fix" works I'll record it like that and you can tell me if I did good or not, otherwise uh... sorry ^.^
I suppose I could easily fix that issue with a little audacity magic. Would take a few minutes at most. But don't worry.

@Raiker Z: Regarding the post you made on the 24th, I have a couple things to add:

For starters, you are correct about Crystal King's defense, it is 2. However, it is important to mention that Bowser in fact has 1 defense in the first round, and 2 defense in the second where Kammy powers him up. Bow's Fan Smack is totally useless on final Bowser.

Also, regarding All or Nothing, from my experience I tend to be able to get the last hit in during a Power Bounce. 8+7+0 would only occur if you actually press the A button at the wrong time. If you don't hit the A button at all, All or Nothing doesn't count it against you and you do the last 6 damage. It's essentially the same sort of difference that is used to distinguish between a strike and a ball in baseball(See next post). I would appreciate it if someone could double-check this.

Ultimately, before deciding how high you need your attack power to be for a power bounce, take into consideration whether doing a few power bounces with high attack power (e.g. 7+6+5+4) is faster than doing a lot with lower attack power (e.g. 3+2+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1+1). I would imagine that the former is both easier and faster (though it requires more BP), but if anyone wants to test that, be my guest.

EDIT: Qwerty, thank you for pointing out how All or Nothing actually affects power bounce. It never occurred to me that the game determines whether you do damage based on a margin of error, but it retroactively makes perfect sense.

All or Nothing

BP Cost: 4

Effects:
- Mario's attack power goes up by 1. However, if the action command for a

Hmmm I think I'll have to test that, but it also calls to question now, whats the difference between small and large, to escape the extra bounce  you'd need a small margin, but to purposely miss. Thanks for that though, I've always had the fail hit a 0, I've never had it do damage (But I'll also admit I'm a ton more fond of the hammer, sadly its rather useless in a speed run because of its action command.)


I have a 4th segment but I'm rather annoyed by it, mostly because the two "mistakes" are programming errors over me lol. (1 was bombette was to far away from me when I tried using her bomb special, and I did it multiple times, so she came within range, but still glitched out, and 2 was a door...)

Honestly, doors are so messed up in Koopa Bros fortress, the tricks that apply in Bowswer's castle and the Crystal palace don't apply in Koopa Bros Fortress, sigh... I'll be willing to accept a "The door was being stupid" mess up, but nothing that kills to much time. Mostly other then that I only mess up regularly on stairs (they all seem to need full jumps) a parakoopa dodge, a koopa dodge (because he likes to get blown up by bombette) and the bullet bill sequence (I'm ignoring the honey syrup because I think I ended with an extra somewhere in there. Worst case I'll need a herb)

I have also noticed that for some odd reason the doors in Koopa Bros. Fortress do behave differently from those in Bowser's Castle and Crystal Palace. You have to approach the door after the lock falls off, since the "!" icon goes away.

I'm in agreement with Flip here. If you want to see results faster, you can do a number of different things to make it happen. Possibly among some other options, you could attempt to do a run yourself; you could help someone plan a run; you could post a bounty; or you could verify (which means you get to see the run before a lot of other people in some cases). If you cannot do any of these things, being patient and polite is probably the biggest favor you could do for us. I know what it's like not being able to do these things most of the time, and it can be frustrating to not see quick results, but it is definitely worth waiting, especially since an optimal run takes time and much practice. Keep in mind that some of the fastest runs take the longest to complete, and that many of these people have lives outside of their speedrunning.
you're the one who kept demanding someone to make a tp 100% speed run and told everyone that they were dumb for not attempting a run!
13013 - Sorry, I'm not working on it right now, besides distractions, I have 2 finals left to finish, and one of them is to design a website. After those finals I'll begin working on it again, I do have a 4th segment, but I think I could do better, its ugly in places that I think I could smooth out, and a few tricks I picked up during my speed test have made this castle much easier then it used to be, I don't think it will take to many more tries, but I could be wrong. Also, remember some people don't log in all the time, my internet hasn't been working so I haven't logged in for a few days, but I still come onto the site quite often, that guest could be anyone. Check out silly's post, he's right, I got my recorder a few weeks before finals, of course I won't be doing Paper Mario when I'm concerned with keeping a 4.0 :\ guess which one is more important to me.

Anti- I have no clue if your talking to 13013 or silly here, or what the post is about, can I ask for you to elaborate.

As our guest mentioned, be patient I haven't quit (and I'm sure someone else could be working behind the scenes here) the run will get published, but it will take a long time, these are the "easy" segments, and look how many resets I had for segment two.

P.S. Segments 2 and 3 I didn't plan to post untill after I finished segment 4, the only reason you know I've finished them is because I know I'll have 50 coins now (should be 53, but it could go +- 2 either way depending on drops) if I wasn't so lucky before finals you could still be waiting for segment 2.

Anti was responding to 13013 probably (esp. since (s)he is apparently against 13013); a while ago there was a fuss over the lack of progress in TP runs and 13013 got into an argument with several other forum members over whether the quality or quantity of runs produced is more important (and by consensus, the winner of the debate was obvious). With that said, it would be best if we just dropped the subject and moved on. No more bumping this 'til something interesting and relevant happens.
Ok, update time! I finished my final that I was stressing about last post (got a 96 whoo) and today I got a segment 4 I'm relativly happy with. I have a segment 5 that I'm pretty happy with too, but I have one part that I think I can improve, so I'm gonna give it a few more tries to see if I can. Either way tomorrow I hope to get both of those up on youtube and I'll post here when they are set. The time to beat is in the 54 range, so if you read my segment plans I'm 3 minutes ahead of my goal after chapter 1. I thought I'd mention this for those who are either excited for a new one, or anyone who just wants to see how I'm doing. Sorry that they aren't going up tonight, but the I'm still recording.

Something to not for anyone doing a low% (I think there is someone) After chapter 1, I think if you go through the garden you can skip the badge salesman cutting you off. It only works for the low% since you cant get speedy spin (ew). Not 100% sure if it works, or if the person planning the low% has thought of that, but its a good couple of seconds you can cut out.

Segment 5 should be up later, I'll post, but it may be tomorrow, I've done a few tries today, but the only run of note got messed up because of java trying to update during recording (turned the screen black and messed up a really good run, easily on par with the one that has one mistake that annoys me). Oh well, either way I still have a segment 5, but I'm convinced I can redo it with the same quality, minus the annoying mistake (I accidentally spun into a star piece, resulting in completing the spin, its something I'd like to avoid if possible)
