Yeah, I have some SS fetish. It would require endurance but less than a week ago my cousin and I went through wind waker and prime 1 and 2 with only one rest for food in 24 hours..

A SS 100% Mario Paint speedrun...I'd watch it
hey hey hey!!
what do you think of my route so far?
i've made a huge mistake
Why are you doing Chuck Quizmo so early? He appears all the way up through Shiver City, so you shouldn't do that until after Chapter 7. That way you can run in to him while going around doing deliveries/favors/etc. It seems like a giant waste of time to do it in the middle of the run. After Chapter 7 you have no choice but to search for him endlessly though.

Also, about the badges Peach finds in the castle that you can put in the magic chest... Is it enough to just get them as Peach, or do you need to put them in there and pick them  up as Mario?

LOL. I would too. Someone needs to do it. Grin

Yeah, that's what I figured was going to happen from the start. In my run I run right past him quite a few times in basically every city, so you can get some of them done on the way without having to run around in search of him all in one clump, much less all the times you have to backtrack through towns to do all the other stuff. Chuck needs to be after Chapter 7.

Well, earlier things were determined as 100% or not if it "gave a benefit to the character" or something like that. I think that's what threw out the useless items (Diploma, Dictionary, etc.) and optional bosses. Since badges have no potential benefit to Mario unless they're in his inventory, my guess would be that you would have to actually get them out. That's just my guess though.
hey hey hey!!
ya, i kind of realized the chuck quizmo thing after i wrote it, but i was too lazy to change it up.
It might be feasible to collect a bunch (but not all) of Chuck Quizmo's star pieces early on.  One of Koopa Koot's favours involves going into Murluvlee's house twice.  This is before the final time we enter her house to spend all remaining star pieces (as we must beat all of Koopa Koot's favours to get all star pieces).

So we might want to buy some badges from Merlow on one of those earlier trips, and the extra star pieces from Chuck might be enough to get some helpful badges.  I'm thinking about the Pay-Off & Money Money badges....

Also, forget about collecting badges as Peach.  Wouldn't it be much faster to have Mario just manually pick them up himself when he reaches Peach's Castle at the end of the game?  None of the badges would help in a speedrun anyways (Power Rush doesn't stack with Mega Rush in this game).
hey hey hey!!
i've gotta be honest, i really haven't worked on this since school started.  i'm just so busy all of the sudden, still in the summer mood i guess.  but i'll get this done eventually.  i'm having trouble with the route, so it's taking a while....
@_@
Any updates on this?
i've made a huge mistake
Abandoned already?  Tongue

Still up for this Pyro? If I could get my hands on a DvD recorder I'd be making a competing run myself, this is a run I would really love to do... but the odds of that are pretty terrible.

So good luck again if you're still going pyro.

It would be pretty sad if this were already abandoned... Sad
hey hey hey!!
ya it would be.  im taking a break.  got a lot on my mind because of homecoming, gettting back in shape, and a ton of homework.  i really have to focus on grades more
I'm still pondering on the fastest way to raise the 2300+ coins needed before Chapter 8.  Unless we force the runner to keep restarting segments until s/he literally wins the lottery twice.

- Whacka bumps sell for 64 coins apiece at the Shroom Grocery.  That's 512 coins right there.
- Jammin' Jellies & Ultra Shrooms sell for 50 coins, but Jelly Supers & Maple Ultras sell for 100 coins each.  Jelly Ultras only go for 150 coins each (200 each at Boo's Mansion, but that's quite a detour).
- Of course, the Refund Badge is to be always equipped (earn 75% of standard selling price when using item mid-battle).  For this reason, it's probably worth it to take slightly longer battles by replacing Spook with the item+Power Bomb combos I had in my earlier any% route plan.  Also, instead of, say, eating a Jammin' Jelly out-of-battle, it may be faster to enter a random encounter, eat it & get the 38 coins, then run away (probably with Dizzy Shell or Outta Sight to prevent HP loss).
- I'm pretty sure most battle items that Harry doesn't stock sell well at his store, so there will go all the Stone Caps & Repel Gels.

On an unrelated note, it may be worth it to defeat Buzzar, as we'll need to pass by her 3 times in a 100% (backtracking for star pieces).  A Dizzy Dial would greatly speed up the fight -- are there any to be found by the start of Chapter 2?

I don't think we need to go past Kent C. Koopa when backtracking for star pieces, but he does grant 18-20 coins & some nice star points....

Also, hopefully we can have both Money Money & Pay-Off by the time we take out Anti-Guy in Shy Guy's Toybox, so that we can get some coins off of him.
@_@
I've never done much with farming money in this game in normal playthroughs, so I'm not sure what the quickest way would be. You know more about it than I do.

As far as I'm aware there aren't any Dizzy Dials you can pick up before Chapter 2. The first Dizzy Dial you can grab that I know of is on the way to Tubba's castle (using Kooper).

Repel Gels sell for 30 coins at Harry's as opposed to 15 everywhere else, but Stone Caps sell for 15 coins everywhere iirc. I'm not sure about the significance, but I scrounged up that Stopwatches sell for 20 coins at Harry's as opposed to the standard 10 and Shooting Stars also sell for 20 coins at Harry's, slightly over the standard 15. It's not much, but five coins is five coins?

Without a Dizzy Dial to speed up Buzzar, might it be better to just skip her all three times? Skipping her battle takes about 21 seconds (timed from my run), and you have to spend that 21 seconds the first encounter in order to get into the battle anyway. If you pass by her two times after that, you'd have to defeat her in less than 42 seconds in order for it to save any time. If it can be done then it obviously should, and if not then it's just faster to skip all three times.
hey hey hey!!
when i first beat the game, i just used amayzee dayzees a lot with money money on,because i wanted to get up to a high level anyway.  but that wouldn't work for a run.
hey hey hey!!
now that is spring break and almost the end of the school year, i was thinking about coming back to this run.  does anyone care about it enough anymore?
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
I do.  I truly want to see you collect anything of value within a record time.  If anything, it will add more to this site.
@_@
Of course I still care. It's been a while now since I've done the run, some more Paper Mario goodness is way overdue.
hey hey hey!!
i'm glad people are still interested. =P did i ever post segment 17 because i can't seem to find it....

I don't see it in this thread anywhere.

hey hey hey!!
you know the block that you have to hit like 50 times to get the ultra shroom or whatever in the dry dry area, should i do it for the extra coins? if you know what i'm talking about.

Segment 17
----------

-peach/twink (get power rush badge)
-as Mario, go down, left, down, left and hit lone block 10 times for super shroom (maybe 100 depending on time and amount of money for ultra shroom)
-on way back, get wacka’s bump and super block (hit metal block)
-save next to train
@_@
Hmm.. honestly, I haven't touched or really even thought much about the game since I did the run. With the work I've been (and still plan to be) doing on MNSG I would have to basically completely relearn a lot about Paper Mario before I could be any help at all strategy-wise.

All I can tell you right now about that block is it may be a possibility depending on the availability of coins in other places. It's one zone above Kolorado, but you have to hit the block 100 times to get an ultra shroom, super shroom, and mushroom. Mushrooms sell for 2 coins at all shops, Super Shrooms sell for 7 coins at all shops, and ultra shrooms sell for 50 coins. You may consider giving the Ultra Shroom to Tayce T. to sell as Maple or Honey Ultra for 100 coins. Interesting also to note that a Jelly Ultra will sell for 200 coins at Boo's shop. I dunno, money management will be a large part of the planning process and I'm not entirely prepared to go really far into it right now.
hey hey hey!!
i don't blame you for not wanting to go do in depth with it. =P but i do like your idea for making better items for more coins.
I won't be able to contribute much but I just wanted to say that I'm still really interested in this run.
@_@
It's really too bad that max winning the Jump Game in the Casino is way too much luck manipulation.

In a 9-hit challenge, hitting the four 1-coin blocks and the three 5-coin blocks (19), then the two 5x multipliers (475), and then getting the 2x for completing the challenge will net you a total of 940 coins after subtracting the 10 coin fee. If it was possible to do that just a few times then your money problems would literally be completely negligible.

Unfortunately hitting the blocks in exactly that order is pretty much humanly impossible in terms of luck. (about 0.05%)

It's truly regrettable. Sad
