Shut up and go back to another earth
Oh god, I follow this topic since the beginning and I just realised that there was something very curious I should tell. At least if you already know that, you'll tell me how it is possible.

When the game came out on PC a lot of Youtubers "let's played" it. My friend TimmyAkmed and I were trying to find tricks, glitches, anything who could help for a speedrun (Timmy is the one who found the ladder-trick in the sewers if I do not make a mistake) and, as we know that sometimes players find stuff without even trying to, we watched some youtubers videos.

Timmy found a let's play with a very strange detail on it. At the female ward in the corridor that you can see at 34:38 in the video just above this post (the corridor where the priest tell you to cross from the upper floor), the youtuber checked the door to the right side of the corridor, the one who is actually closed forever. The sec after that, he IS on the upper floor ready to make the big jump to reach the priest spot. At the beginning Timmy and I just thought that the youtuber cutted the whole part in his video, but the thing is: his camera is not broken as if he never lost it during the play.

Timmy sent a mail to this guy, asking how he did it during the removed part of the video. The guy just answered that he did not edit the video at all, without giving any extra information. Of course we thought it was a big lie, I can't imagine a game who simply teleports you when you do nothing else that checking a regular door, but that does not explain the fact that the camera was intact. If there is a way to skip the whole "find the camera" part, it'll be an huge improvement.

I can't give you the link of the video yet because I lost it, I'll post it here as soon as I'll find it (or TimmyAkmed'll give me the link when he will be online on skype x) ), probably tonight.

Edit: Oh, after a quick check it seems that sometimes the camera just does not have any hurt when you get it back. Is it true ? If it is, this little mystery is solved and I'll be very disappointed u_u
Yeah, I would definitely love to see that vid.

One thing to note, Wrongwarped accidentally found a trick with the explosion loadbuffer trick, aka the Kitty Pryde trick, where you can actually load buffer into the floor of the second floor prison instead of dropping to the first floor which allows you to skip about 30+ seconds. Unfortunately, we have not been able to recreate that scenario.

I watched the last LuigEzz speedrun of the game and saw that the camera did not break on it, so maybe this guy BIBIX just had the same thing. There is a difference though. LuigEzz dies later on the speedrun and the camera is still intact when he comes back to life, wich seems kind of logical considering that the camera did not break in the script of the game. In BIBIX's case, the breaking screen shows up after a death.

Or maybe LuigEzz desactivated some graphical options who cancels the screen split ? But it does not explain why BIBIX does not have it when he reaches the priest spot. Like I said I really think he lied by saying that he did not cut anything on the video and you'll probably think the same when you'll watcth the video but this whole split thing is strange !

I'm going to have to say that is not a legitimate glitch. There is a clear break in game play as it goes from him changing batteries on the 2nd floor, to fullscreen face cam that blocks any game play, to him suddenly checking the stairway door to the 3rd floor. Without seeing what exactly happened in the period of time that is missing, there is no way to tell what happened. And though I do not speak French, his lack of both expression and reaction tells me nothing actually happened and the clip was cut in that time frame. And this isn't even taking in consideration the fact that you can't even check the door on the second floor as there is a hospital bed in the way...

More than likely his stream or whatever cut out as he was recording and he didn't notice until later after he had already reached the 3rd floor and just edited it for sake of putting it on YouTube.

I'm no expert on this, but I agree with Connor on this one. It's a clear (and admittedly elegant) transition for the sake of the video.

P.S. First post HYPE!

More advancement to the load buffer explosion glitch, aka the Kitty Pryde: http://www.twitch.tv/saintconnor/c/3976526

This was first accidentally found by Wrongwarped and at first we thought it was because differences in loading times because his setup isn't as good as mine and Albinohat's. I spent about 2hrs yesterday messing with it until I got it and this is the result. Some more tweeking needs to be done to a) make sure it is consistent, and b) find visual cues to ensure it can happen quickly.

There are some interesting interactions with the hallway wall in the floor below. If you can get stuck in a specific position that pins you between the lockers in the shower room and the hallway wall, you can crouch below it and fall onto a very small ledge just out of bounds. From this position it may be possible to make a jump into the bathroom that is blocked off by rubble just outside the hole room that drops into the sewer. I only hit it one time in my times of trying it and didn't realize exactly what had happened until I had already fell out of it, but could be worth looking into further and would save even more time.
Can someone explain how the vent glitch is performed? Specifically the one at the explosion?

Basically what is going on is similar to how ledge jumps work except on a much smaller scale with a little something extra. There are 2 things going on. One is a small lip on the sides of the opening of the vent that if you hit it as a certain angle, you can crawl across it. The second is the game acts a certain way when you fall out of the vent because it's such a small space. It's expecting you to fall, so when you don't it tries to push you, but if your angle is correct, it will boost you acrossthe vent instead of down.

So with ledge jumps, you angle yourself so the game doesn't push you off. For vents, you angle yourself so it pushes you across. You just have to keep messing with it. You'll get it eventually.

I am making this post to gauge interest on some ideas.

Idea #1. I am thinking of setting up a website for the Outlast community. No promises on a delivery date, but I am currently learning Ruby on Rails and having a project in mind will make that a lot more fun.

Idea #2: With or without a website, we might want to start setting up some kind of leaderboard just so people have an idea of who is where (or when since we deal in times here. :P)

Idea #3: I was thinking that if we do have leaderboards that we separate the runs out by console since our routes are quite different.

Idea #4. For racing, maybe we could find some route that is both fun (glitchless is OUT (maybe)) and that also works on PS4 and PC to help bridge the gap between the two platforms.

I really am enjoying seeing the community grow and a lot of that is thanks to the PS4 release of the game. It's be really awesome if we can come together as a single, larger community. Smiley

Thanks for your time.

Hello,

I've made a thread on the newer consoles on Outlast for the PS4, but since it doesn't seem to get much attention, i'll bring some new findings here, some of which (may) also work on pc. I myself have been doing Insane difficulty runs exclusively, my current best time is 45:54, which as far as I know is the WR for insane mode. PS4 any% WR is 39:07 by Oram77. Here's my run:

Last couple of days there's been big new finds on the ps4, including way to do the doctor skip on ps4 and a new glitch I found, that let's you skip the fuse and key part at female ward. Both of those can be seen on my run. The fuse skip doesn't seem to work on pc (with same strat), because the level loads faster. Here's another way I found that might work on pc version, since you shorten the distance to the wall. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1421810181402357&l=7482283071492855899. Worth at least a try.

Yesterday a way to do the explosion skip was also found for ps4 (credits to Its_Larmy, who also found doctor skip). This glitch also works on pc, and happens to be faster as well. https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1421728018077240&l=7018518460119970890. I found further improvement on that glitch, because the door can be glitch opening from either side. Door glitch works on all doors in the game, but I haven't found any other place where it's useful for speedruns. It could've been useful on insane mode at the priest death scene, because you can get past the door and brothers, but there's invisible wall blocking your way to the vent until the scene ends, and you can't climb back from the window you come from, even if you glitch the door to that room, so doesn't save any time there. Also at the beginning when Chris Walker comes to the room with surveillance monitors, you can glitch the door before the scene, but it's fixed after the cut scene for some reason.

Thanks for the info, Finath! I intend to play with the fuse skip strat now that I am home from work. Also, if anyone complains about his PS4 posts here, that's on me for asking him to do it earlier today. I forgot that the forum is broken up by platform as well as game.
Hi all, I added an entry to track the world records for Outlast in a wiki I installed.  You can find it here: http://www.videogamerecords.org/wiki/Outlast

I separated both the PC and PS4 ports as they have different loading times.  Note that some of the info is missing, specially some names, countries, and dates.  Also, there is a run where I have heard claims of it been glitchless for the PC but I need someone to watch some of it and let me know if it is indeed glitchless.  If it isn't I'll remove it.

Lastly, I would like to add, or someone can do it, a section for Glitches.  And of course, I would like to add a section explaining what the requirements are for each category so it is clearly specified.  I don't think that criteria is specified clearly anywhere.  Anyone can edit the wiki so feel free to make corrections or add information as new records are achieved  Smiley
Awesome Kasht! You rock! I know Albino has been wanting to do a tutorial for Any%, but there's still new things being found on a pretty regular basis, so he's held off. I'll definitely give the wiki a thorough look when I get some time away from work this weekend.

I may as well make on large post...

1. Kasht is the man. I saw that default corner image and immediately fell in love. MediaWiki is so great! This is certainly an efficient way to get set up! Now I'm interested in the set up. WAMP + MediaWiki = The laziest wiki on Earth for Windows folks. <3

2. We are currently setting up a document to keep track of everything strat related in Outlast and we can definitely port it into the wiki. More on that: Anyone who runs Outlast is welcome regardless of platform to join us in compiling this list. We are looking for everything including old, outdated strats and skips so we can eventually come up with new routes and maybe something like Bingo as you see in OoT.

3. Last but certainly not least, sub 30 Any% is officially possible! I found two new skips last night which have changed the routes of both Male Ward and Female Ward

New Doctor/Sprinkler Skip
http://www.twitch.tv/albinohat/c/4036727

New Female Ward Skip
http://www.twitch.tv/albinohat/c/4036796
I updated the wiki with some rules for each run.  Please review the rules to make sure I didn't miss anything and that they are accurate and accepted by the Outlast community.  Smiley
I got my ps4 insane mode WR back with 41:00.

The run wasn't perfect, but I'm quite happy with it. Just getting a finished run on insane is just so difficult with all the things that can go wrong. When you also have the ps4 record feature acting up, it really can get frustrating. Sub 40 is definitely possible on insane. Too bad the new sprinkler skip doesn't work on insane, the courtyard won't load on ps4 without the loading screen, so you must die to make it load.

Copypasta-ing my post from the PS4 thread.

Congrats on taking back that record, Finath! The king of insane has taken back his throne!

Here is the new strat that was found last night. I'll be playing with it more to see if we can skip all isolation black.

I recently re-purchased Outlast on PS4(after having played through it a couple of times on PC) and it sparked my interest in this topic. Once I finished the game for the first time (back when it was released in September) I started watching walkthroughs of it, there were a couple of huge things I noticed that were different from my experience.. The main thing being that I NEVER lost my camera. I don't know what exactly I did, but I never had to go through the part with the fuses and the part with the camera being lost until my second playthrough. Being privvy to speed running n' what not I think you guys should put a bit more research into this, because there's definitely a part in the game that dictates whether or not you lose the camera/have to find the fuses.

I just realized something rewatching this. You said 39.4 or something, but that was the difference in your split time (your gold time), not the actual split. Actual split time was 48.50. I just did a couple of runs with normal kitty pride and making the ledge jump (without gut check) puts us at the stairs at about the same time. I was getting 50-51s. So, in reality, its a more difficult way of gaining only a few seconds. When we were testing, I was focused on my time and wasn't watching your stream and didn't realize this until now :(.

I will say, however, I've been messing with Wrongwarped's accidental find more and think it may not so much be about how it's done, but when it's done. I think the way WW found it may be the most frame perfect way of optimally doing it, but there is a decent sized window of when you can hit the pause to load yourself between floors, then make the jump into the 2nd floor. I got it about 5 times last night and came close several more. All at different angles and approaches.

I believe that skip happened to you, but without further details it's pretty impossible to try to find a way to repeat it. I imagine whatever happened, it was on the corridor where you turn left to go to the fuse part and see the priest at the end with his flashlight. Somehow you managed to warp one floor up and to the corridor that leads to the jump after camera retrieval. I tried to screw around there, but without clue where to look exactly, couldn't find anything.

There is however a new glitch I found yesterday, or rather I figured out the glitch that happened before by accident. On the explosion skip you can get straight to the 2nd floor on prison block, skipping the annoying rail jump, and can save upto 10s if done quickly. Here's a link to a video of the glitch:

https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=1425011637748878&l=2901601399040105133

I've managed to do the glitch almost 20 times now, so it is somewhat consistent, but you have to jump far enough and pause buffer at right time, which makes it quite difficult. I've tried adding extra jump up without moving to your side when you're on the invisible platform, this seems to give you more height if you pause buffer again, making the last jump easier. I've been more successful with the side hop at the end for some reason, although I've also managed to do it facing forward.

1. Thanks for fixing the mistake, Connor. I'll still consider that skip since it is a little bit faster. I would rather do that than the ledge jump in prison, lol.

2. Finath is consistently doing what we originally intended to do on PC, Connor. He lands on the roof and jumps up to have the second floor get loaded around him. He seems to be having a better time of it than we did. Smiley

3. I'm close to a possible skip into shower room due to lots of grinding yesterday. As long as I feel like Outlasting today, I will be grinding it again tonight.  I won't be posting footage until I have some conclusive evidence, though.    The gist of it is that you vent hover, jump across security room, land on top of the automatic door's door frame, land in a pocket between all the walls (side hopping at an angle to the downish-rightist direction), walk up onto the wall between shower and isolation ward, jump (super annoying jump BTW) to the wall between showers and the stairwell leading down into shower and then I want to play with it from there. I've gotten that far twice and both times I got my dumb self stuck in geometry when falling into shower room because the room blinks.
Anyone know if the priest skip works on ps4? I can get up on the shelves but keep failing the jump.
The Vent glitch for the doctor skip is completely possible on ps4, its just done differently. You have to slide past the vent hole you enter then stick to the right of the vent until you can stand. then follow the line on the left (you will have to crouch in a couple areas including right after you first stand up) until you can go left again. then sprint and jump. heres a vid:

The priest skip does work on ps4, you just have to do it little differently. You can find some videos on youtube. At least this run has it

That doctor skip has been known for couple of weeks now, and has actually evolved into doctor and sprinkler skip since you can get straight to the kitchen. Neither of those are on my run though, because you have to die on both, and I play insane mode.

You shouldn't put WR in your titles, Finath. World Records are made to be broken. :3
