It's mostly uncomfortable to check after the run as there is no NG+ and you can't look at the entire map making sure there are no sparkly bits. No ability or experience orbs means you can just look at the save and you're good.

That's very true KOKO.  Now how about this question. When do we start and stop times? i was thinking at file select and when ori feathers at the end of the volcano run when the supersonic achievement is earned.
Or we just use IGT. There's a reason that thing exists. :F
I can confirm you can enter Mount Horu without Forlorn Caverns , you need to get the Wallclimb upgrade in Misty Woods , then do the Sorrow's Pass sequence break.

Onin : There are no fragment door anymore after this , no use for them then ... That's a great trick though.
You can at least gather 2 easy ones and skip 2 of the hard ones in the million spikes room, that'll save a bit of time.

HeyGuys, I'm finally here. If IGT isn't accurate, I'll just make a LiveSplit IGT AutoSplitter.

I've hacked around a bit, found that if you manage to get the Sunstone and enter Mount Horu, or glitch into there, you can complete the game (providing you are able to make it past everything). Basically if we can find skips, we won't need to complete the other sections of the game.

I also found bash infinite jump, works on any slow moving projectile it seems:

Reminder to set your game to never update, as it appears that the devs will be patching things. I propose we stay on release version.

Mirellie it might be a bit of a hassle but for me the game ends on the last input, and that's when you move Naru to pick up Ori.

When I ran it pre-release my final split name was: Fat Lady Sings. : 3

BTW I'm shocked the Sorrow Pass skip works. I personally remember testing that out in previous builds (it's kinda obvious) and it didn't work, now it does. Guess they unfixed it.

@Abahbob - I'm not telling the devs anything from now on, but if they find anything that they wanna patch they'll let me know and we can discuss it. They want to work with the running community and not screw us over with anything annoying. In fact they might even help us with some stuff. Lets try and work together IN JOLLY CO-OPERATION!
More updates: Glitching the lava flow cutscenes in Horu will softlock. Seems like my last shot at a skip is the Kuro cutscene skip. Hopes are high.
short little 10 second skip in the Ginso Tree i noticed. sorry for crap quality, i dont make youtube videos.

Penultimate update: The very bottom right lava cutscene can in fact be save glitched. In doing so, Ori will spawn in the main hall during the cutscene. SAVE AGAIN HERE. And you'll get a neat time saver. The bottom left one doesn't seem to be skipable.

Final update: You're not allowed to create a save point in the room where you enter the flame thing. No skipping this cutscene it seems.
More crap quality, but here is a video version of Onin's early climb.  side note. can anyone recomment free software that i can use to make these videos better?
You could do a local recording with OBS.
Alright, so there's a bunch of small level-specific strats I could list off, but how about a general route:

1. Get Sein. Pick up the experience globe on the way and the experience from the rhino thing, so you can level up on a frog and use the damage to kill the others.
2. Get the first life upgrade, get the first map fragment. Make a save before the spirit tree get wall jump, get the energy upgrade, use the save point to level up (2x damage). Get the second map fragment (damage boosts woo), proceed to the tree.
3. Get charge flame. Pull the lever. Possibly backtrack to the tree, go to Valley of Winds, kill everything and get the experience orb. This gives 3 levels of experience. Spend it on magnet and the save point buffs.
4. Do iceless.
5. Continue through the grotto as intended, the skips aren't worth doing. Get double jump, do the wall jump skip on the way back, get the water element.

6. Just before the tree, find the spot where Gumo's cutscene triggers. Save glitch this cutscene, and while it plays, enter the tree.
7. Proceed through the tree as intended. Do cool dash things.
8. Save glitch upon activating the water element. Saves a little time and takes away all of the difficulty, allowing free easy experience pickups.
9. Go through the under-water part, you shouldn't have to waste time, you got barely enough breath. Get the smash upgrade.
10. Proceed to the Valley of Wind. Pick up all four (or five?) ability points on the way. When exiting the cave where you do iceless, find the trigger location and skip Kuro's cutscene (and figure out how the blind movement works; you can't get hurt by off-screen enemies but collision works as normal).
11. Harass Kuro as normal, proceed to Misty Woods, clear it as normal.
12. Do the sequence break to get Climb early. Getting out of the woods now probably requires completing it as intended, sadly. Do it anyway.

13. By this time you should have enough experience to have triple jump. If you don't, take the long way around and get more experience. If you do, Climb up the mountain.
14. Do the Sorrow Dash. (it involves dashing, and sorrow.)
15. Get the closest two fragments, then sequence break Sorrow Pass. Complete the rest as usual, aside from skipping the right side of the spike room.
16. Get the fire element. Get a snack while cutscenes are unskipable.

17. Get to Mount Horu.
18. Finish the first six rooms as intended. Or not entirely as intended.
19. Still needs testing: Is there a difference between taking bottom left or bottom right first? Either way, save glitch the lava cutscene in the bottom right room, then save again during the cutscene.
20. Flip Kuro off, finish the game.
How far up do you up do you need to get the birds into the passage in sorrows pass? (The dashing with the birds+damage boost to skip forlorn caverns)

A visual cue would be cool so i can see how close i am to getting it.

Onin: 2015-03-13 03:44:08 pm
You need to get a bird into the bottom right corner of the spikes, then use him to dash upward, hit the spikes on the left and damage boost off them. Basically the higher the bird gets the better, but it's always kinda finicky.

I'll see whether I can get it recorded later.
Ok that actually helps alot, i'm alot closer than i thought, i might have a *semi* reliable setup. Thanks.

----

That's a better setup than what I'd been using. Nice.
Just one small thing that nobodies mentioned. The very first keydoor has the short cutscene explaining how it works; it can be skipped by placing the keys in the door as you're falling down from the ledge above.
Hey Onin, are you able to just give a quick step-by-step guide of how to do the save glitch to move during certain cutscenes? Thanks!
Edit history:
Onin: 2015-03-13 04:44:28 pm
1. Find the position where the cutscene triggers.
2. Put a save point just in front of it.
3. Hold E to rekindle the save while running into the trigger.
4. Quit and reload the save.
For cutscenes triggered by pressing a button, press it halfway through holding E to rekindle instead.

I'd offer a recording but it'd be at 10 fps. Feels bad man.
does the sorrow dash require triple jump or is it possible to do without it?
Impossible without.
so if you dont get triple jump before that part, your probably losing what, 20 minutes if not more?
Edit history:
Onin: 2015-03-13 07:00:37 pm
I'm not sure how much you save for skipping Forlorn, but a ballpark of 10-15 minutes isn't unfeasible.

If you don't manage to get triple jump, just gather more experience to get it. There's a whole bunch of experience orbs nearby forlorn caverns that are worth a lot. And perhaps we just have to skip one or both damage upgrades, and rely solely on smash for killing things.

By the way, I'm 90% sure the deathless leaderboard times are just segmented. If you copy every save you make, then re-copy and reload whenever you die, you can easily get a deathless run with an amazing time. So, take everything on the leaderboards with a pinch of salt. Doesn't mean IGT isn't a good measurement, but full video proof is obviously required for any run to be confirmed single-segment and legitimate.
