Hey I'm starting to get into speedrunning and really focusing on optimizing individual sections for tiny time savers. Found a little time saver in Ginso tree. Timed the normal way to climb using bash off of the second shooter and this saves about a second. If i can keep finding little timesavers like this it will eventually add up. Apart from that Hi guys glad to be part of this community as my first speedrunning game.
Also found this room 1 strat in Ginso Tree to be the best and safest as like in the sub 1hr run by Raven had happen to him this avoids the spiker completely so there's no 1 or 2 seconds time loss by getting hit or trying to kill it. I don't know if it actually saves any time if you were to avoid the spiker damage however it adds safety to the mix so can'y go wrong with that.
Another second saver i just found then. Instead of wall jumping up the right side to get high enough to charge blast the rock and drop the spider web blob as i like to call it you can charge a blast and upon reaching the top of the spider blob hold up to focus the camera on the rock then you can reach it with a jump to destroy it. This saves about a second overall and avoids the chance of getting hit by the spider shot.
I just finished the first ever Climbless/Chargeless run. Clocked in at around 1:23, with 10 minutes wasted on Sorrow Bash and Frog Juggle. Mount Horu is really difficult without Charge Jump, it's a massive time waster unless you execute absolutely perfectly.

Using my experience route, I have enough to get 2 attack upgrades, magnet, and triple jump before Kuro. I think you could get away with only taking 1 attack upgrade and just skipping the ability point above the Kuro cutscene, as that one takes the longest, but that's honestly up to personal preference at this stage.

I actually recorded it (in the lowest possible resolution :D) so I'll post it as soon as it's done encoding.

I feel like I've fallen so far behind! I haven't had the chance to even start running yet ;-; DAMN YOU WORK AND SCHOOL! I'm going to start practicing runs today around 5pm pacific time if anyone wants to join in \m/ o \m/
Chill, eagle; I'm in the same boat; Work getting in the way.
Except I'm trying to beat my PB in another game one last time, too. So, will still be a few days before I actually start running this.

^ When you wall jump over the very first energy ball you should be able to get a really good cycle and combined with good walljumps you can clear this area pretty fast.
I am not sure if the ball RNG is always the same when you enter this area or if it is random, this needs further checking.

^ Here you can utilise some wall jumps in the first 2 rooms of Ginso Tree for faster climbing.

Did you see 2nd ginso room trick by climbing teleport walls? It's rough trick to get any time save out of it, but it really let's you skip half of that room in much less time without needing to be on good cycle.

Oh yeah forgot about that. Spent a few minutes practising it just now, looks like it's not that hard to do consistently if you get the hang of it.

You got this! What game are you working on beating your pb for?

Some Misty Woods skips, after Climb.
You need Triple Jump for the first one. Not needed for the second one. Both save a couple of seconds, nothing major but I haven't seen people use these in their runs yet.

The second one is pretty clever. I already managed to cut the sequence a bit during my casual playthrough but this is even better Smiley
I haven't seen anyone else mention this small skip, but it was one of the first ones I found.  Also could be added to the tips and tricks section, but can't do that on my smartphone.

When going through the teleporting walls in the Ginso Tree, it resets your double jump, so you can double jump both before and after you teleport horizontally.  Might not work for the vertical ones?  Need to check, think I've seen that.

So in the long vertical room where the entire walls are all teleporting walls (we really need names for every room a la Super Metroid) I was able to get a consistent jump skip all the way up to the top left floating block from the lower right corner of the room.  You just get right to the edge of the room and double jump then barely tap right and go through to the other side, then double jump and tap left, then rinse and repeat and you climb really quickly.  Saves a few seconds off climbing the blocks and dodging dudes.

I thought at first it might not be speedrun safe, but after practicing a bit I could get it consistently.  Needs someone to double check if this works for all the teleporters or not.
shyre, the teleporting wall room is what me and Nagshell were talking about just a few replies back. The video itself is somewhere in this thread, I forget which page. It's a good skip though, after some practise you get the hang of it quite quickly and is a bit faster than just climbing.
Cool, just saw that.  Sorry for the repeat.

I've been doing the 2nd strat in my runs earlier today, wasn't aware of the first one though, good find.

Also can we please stop posting the same strats for Ginso over and over? Think I've seen like 3 different videos of the first room all showcasing the exact same strat. I'm glad you're eager to find stuff, but please read what other people are posting as well (it's even in the google doc)

There is a video of this as well under the name Teleport Climb.

Also looking forward to seeing mount Horu in your run Onin.
Seeing all this improvements is really cool. I just finished my casual playthrough watched a bunch of runs and now I am curios if someone got a map with the current routing. It get's a bit frustrating loosing track every now and then atm.
I've got a map showing all the ability cells, life cells and energy cells I pick up if you want that, but that's about it. Just play it through a bunch (potentially with someone else's run on the side) and it'll stick in no time don't worry Wink
I was thinking of creating a map of Raven's latest route last night. I was tracing it on the big map as he played, but one color is not as useful as it could be. There's so much crossover we would need to change the color over time and I don't know the best way to do that. At work now, so will need to wait until late tonight.
I've been playing the game once again with the video on the side and replicating it step-by-step.
But I think the only way it will stick is if you just start grinding the route and not worry about messing up the first few times.
I agree. It would mostly be for fun. I think it could be a really interesting map. Could also be used as reference for people just starting to run (like me)
Small jump that once mastered will save us a few seconds for skip the rock. (Level of difficulty: medium)

You might need to kill the guy that waits for you at the top of the platform though. Because of that, you may spend the same amount of time in this place.
I was going to take a break for a day but this game is proving far too much fun (and I have the time right now). I decided I'm going to grab the ability cell to the right of the Ginso Tree and take a damage upgrade. Also, I noticed Vulajin did iceless last night so I need to start practicing that trick as that saves a minute or so. Not really looking forward to it. Any tips Vulajin?
Another Optimized room. Since a lot of speedrunners tend to overlook strats for every room there is a lot of time wasted and inconsistency in a lot of overlooked rooms. Based on what I usually see speedrunners do in this room having to jump on the top right platform to be safe this saves about 1.5 - 2 seconds. This strat adds complete consistency to the room and ensures a fast clear.

6 wall jumps on first wall, 3 wall jumps then 3 wall jumps
