Not sure if this one's been done either, nice alternative to "Sunken Glades mushroom platform skip #2"

Ori and the Blind Forest - Any Percent in 59:53

http://www.twitch.tv/whitewingedraven/c/6338958

The one hour barrier has fallen. Still tons of optimization to be done but the ability cell route is much better now.

The cake is a lie
I was learning the route with your previous PB video, guess I'll have to watch this one now Tongue
Congrats!

I was waiting for sub 1h to show the devs a full run. This is it Smiley

And suddenly, all the skips are fixed :3

No worries they already know of everything in the run and we're gonna be fine with patches.

I should note they found everything themselves. You know the internets? : 3

Dude nice Smiley
Nice job Raven! I just got a 1:14:13 offline (b'w')b http://puu.sh/gDSu7/15b99754f3.png
Also, yea these splits just show how much of a trainwreck it was.
Hi, I am beginning to learn this speedrun (it is my first game) and I learned the first 20 minutes of the route (still a long way to go).

I can do the cutscene skips where you save before the cutscene and just run and hold B to save.
However, I am struggling to do the cutscene skips where you need to press X before saving and reloading.
I get it about 5% of the time but the speedrunners I have watched seem to have no trouble with it at all and manage to get it 100% of the time.
Does anyone have any tips for this trick to make it easy to do consistantly? I just don't understand the timing of it.

It's easier than it sounds. You just have to activate the cutscene and then save. The save point should stay active while the cutscene starts, so you actually have plenty leeway. You can only do it too early.

So I activate the cutscene while standing on the save point and THEN hold B (for a second or two?) and then exit and reload ?
That should work, yes.

I've tried like 50 times, it still doesn't work, all i'm getting is the ability screen and not saving the game after starting the cutscene.
What am I doing wrong Cry

I didn't get a recording of this but if you are pulling a rock and get an orb for the first time IE. energy or health you can clip into the rock and and go out the other end no clue what that could implement but i thought it was funny enough to share.
The attached pic is where i did it off of a rng drop from the slime.

i should add that in trying to recreate it the rng was not kind. So it's not consistent at all unless there is a way to manipulate it.

Then either you're not holding the button long enough... Or you're not doing it on the right cutscenes. Spirit tree cutscenes require spending an ability point to glitch. Others like the tree door and the water escape just need holding.
Am I getting this part right: there is absolutely no B input before pressing X to start the cutscene ?
All you need is for the save to happen during the cutscene. You can start the cutscene and then save, or you can start holding B, then start the cutscene, then let the save resolve. It makes no difference.
You are rekindling a save point, right? Not making a new one?

I think the main problem was that I wasn't spending an ability point on a skill, if that is required for the save glitch.

The first 2 spirit trees you won't have rekindle so you have to nail it on the first try, right?

I actually finally got it a few times now by starting to hold B, then pressing X slightly before the first save point is created, then pressing B again to spend an ability point and then reloading.

Like I said, for spirit trees you're forced to spend an ability point, the rekindling method doesn't work. The act of spending an ability point saves the game, so you reload from that.

Oh you were talking about the other cutscene skips, where you run and rekindle? I have no trouble with those.

I only have trouble with the Spirit Tree saves, especially the first two, because they require holding X.

Wait... the ability point spending saves the game ? Not the actual first save point itself ?

Onin: 2015-03-17 06:59:27 am
Yes, the act of spending an ability point saves the game. That's why that method works for spirit trees. Other methods of saving are disabled while that cutscene plays, for some reason. This fact only applies to spirit tree cutscenes (at least as far as the speedrun is concerned), for the others rekindling works fine.

Wow... I have been beating myself over this Spirit Tree skip thinking that it was some intricate timing involving pressing X and B at the correct times, but it turns out it is actually that simple, I finally get it now Cheesy
Thanks for the help Onin.

grats raven. figured it would be you to break the sub 1h mark. ive been pretty sick the past few days and havent even gotten sub 1:40 in any run ive done if ive been able to get to the ginso tree at all.

Some Misty Woods skips, after Climb.
You need Triple Jump for the first one. Not needed for the second one. Both save a couple of seconds, nothing major but I haven't seen people use these in their runs yet.
