I didn't know about the cone head glitch, do we have any idea what triggers it? From looking around random YouTube videos, just about all of them say it happened during combat, but no one seems to have a video of the glitch actually happening or having something more concrete about how to do it. I'd definitely look into it if I knew how to do it, but I've never had that happen to me before.

Also, I lol'd at this video.

I don't recall seeing a video of the glitch being triggered either. It's still definitely worth looking into since I've seen a video where a guy after talking to a npc in, I think (the video quality was horrible), af got warped to a random glitchy cutscene then right to cc. Also, somewhere on gamefaqs I've read that someone could just walk through blockhead in tr during the glitch.
Hey guys. I'm going to be joining Paraxade in trying to Speed run this gem. :3 I just need to figure out exactly how to execute the KT jump in NG+ ... Trying it in the tutorial stage, can't get it to work. I'll keep lurking on the game and through the thread and see if I can't get it to work. What I'm doing: Jump, change KT, try to jump or dash.
You'll want to dash after changing KTs, then jump. You have a very very small window to do it though, like at most two or three frames.
Quote from BlueGlass:
[Wii](as a side note, I never figured out how to charge it[glaive] as a sub-weapon)
Seeing as I just figured out how to do this today...

If you're standing still charging a primary glaive (you must be rearing up in the pose), hold C- this will start charging your sub-glaive. This works whether you have brown rage or not.
Otherwise, such as when you don't have a glaive primary-equipped, hit Z while holding C (or just press them together, C slightly later if you don't want to accidentally Golden Fury or Brown Rage, though this probably will not be necessary for speedruns) and you charge up. Releasing Z does nothing. Releasing C releases the attack.

Though you probably already know, if you release the primary charge while mid-attack on the secondary, it dissipates to no effect, just like in Megaman Zero. Also, glaives, like rosaries, have different secondary attacks for different weapons- there's a launch and a lunge for the ground attacks.

More confusing than having to use C to fire non-initial rapidfire rosary sub-shots was, definitely...

[Wii still] I can't seem to get KT glitch to work, though. Alas.
Yep yep yep!
Thanks for the explanation.  Wii controls are terrible.
I hear that people seem to have trouble with Whirlwind, of all things. Z-button straightlines help- any length, so long as they don't cross and are vaguely horizontal; if you're holding Z it forces the interpreter to believe you drew a straight line, even if it's just a dot. Moving before starting to actually draw also helps.
Lightning-anywhere seems to be easiest-drawn N or И, as the other hard one I've heard, rather than having a horizontal mid-line. (Don't use Z-button as it won't let you turn.)

Any tips for getting KTG-Wii? I can get it to work now about 1/10, though sometimes streak well or poorly; best is currently a KTG^3. That second or so after fan closes before it unpauses means it's hard to find a good movement cue for me.

Yes, you can KTG over water with the tablet, if anyone was curious.
Sorry about double-posting, but don't forget you can bloom multiple things at once, if you line them up for the camera that they all be within the circle. Probably helpful for a NG run, and I didn't see it mentioned, and groobo's run didn't seem to take advantage of this and ran out of ink a lot pre-Konohana Shuffle.
I don't really have any advice for it beyond what I've already said. If you want to increase consistency at the cost of speed, try holding your thumb over the + button and hit it immediately after you swing. That way if you miss it you'll be able to react quicker so you don't lose as much height.
Just throwing it out there...think it's possible to get Kamui early by using the waterfall-Lilypad OOB and some number of KT-glitches? You can use bloom without lightning, from what I read here. Or is lightning needed for the ninetails refight anyway? Hmm.
Yep yep yep!
Yeah, you'd need lightning for the refight, unfortunately.  Stupid refights; if it weren't for those, NG+ could skip almost the whole game.

As for blooming multiple trees at once, I honestly thought it too obvious to be needing a mention, and while it wouldn't be used in NG any%, 100% could certainly make use of it.

There are two methods that I know of for getting into kamui early, but as mentioned before, it's a dead end. Unless someone finds a way of getting the upgraded lightning skill without going through oni island. IIRC you can get level two galestorm without having galestorm and it works on CH during the refight, but sadly you can't activate the entrance to the dragon palace with it. The main reason we enter any dungeon at all is mostly because of the aoy refights. Also, eternaljwh, which of my runs are you referring to? I used that blooming technique in each and every ng+ run I did.
Yep yep yep!
Most likely the NG run, as I'm pretty sure that's the only one on Archive.
Yeah, the one on archive.

I didn't see it mentioned in-topic, and it's probably not important (as it was mentioned flat-inking is just as long a delay to Mushi's Mom, and doesn't cost any ink to boot), but I just noticed that you don't need to know Bloom to be able to Bloom people- you can access it, NG or NG+, as soon as you have people to Bloom-i.e. after Sunrise.

Blooming multiple trees not used in any% because it'll skip Konohana-Shuffle visit too, now? There is one point it might still be useful regardless- vs. Darkness-head of Orochi, as I THINK you can get it to work there, should the buds land/be positioned right. I seem to recall doing so last time I fought him, anyway...what's the NG run going to be skipping, then? I guess it just can skip Lilypad as that's only 'needed' for...Agata and RC Dojo? which both have "strange corner that makes you hop out" sans KT skips? Hmm, a wiki page would help...

What, exactly, is a 'slope' KT? I'm amazed at how precise the Sasa loading zone, Agata early, and CC bridgeskip are (have only managed the former two with multiple KTs, haven't made it across river yet...and too late on this save to get Lilypad to compensate.). If it's the secret to how you manage to KT-tackle and go UP a slope rather than sitting in place/bouncing off, then I haven't yet seen a description of how to pull it off.

Kind of hilarious how the chains of dependency work here in the skips, that.
I believe the two main skips in NG are the spirit gate and Lilypad.

A slope KT is a KT glitch done by switcing KTs while touching a steep slope. It makes Ammy stand on the slope which gives you an enormous window to do another jump, which makes the glitch pathetically easy. The most effective way to do it that I've found is to dash into the slope so that Ammy would normally bounce off it, then right as you hit it, switch KTs. Then after you unpause, do another ground dash and jump.

Yeah, blooming both buds in one go works great when fighting orochi's darkness head.

What about minor skips in a NG run? The sunken ship skip, activating the dragon orb early, the oni island blockhead skip, the drawing through walls trick, using cherry bomb instead of rolling the damn ball, avoiding fight triggers, skipping the unskippable cutscene in TR - just to name a few. There are plenty of those, someone should really keep track of all this.
Someone uploaded a vid of them getting what looks like the headless ammy glitch. I think it happens at like 12 seconds in, though it's hard to tell what triggered it. The flowers from the first dead enemy covered the head and then he attacked the 2nd enemy with the beads so that may be worth trying?

Question, is there a consistent way to cross to Taka Pass? It should be easy in theory since it's just a single water KT, but for some reason I always, in every single run, end up having a ridiculous amount of trouble with it and lose a couple minutes.

Also, I'm playing Okami in the Speedrun Spooktacular this Friday. [edit: no I'm not]

Don't rely on your vision for that jump, and learn the timing by heart. At least that's what I did. Either that or pause buffer.

Good luck with the run!
Was streaming today and looking for stuff and found that you can leave Ark Of Yamato and Oni Island. Their exits are just a bit oob so you can kt to there and leave. Neither seems to be useful sadly. Oni island would have been great and saved a few minutes but Issun keeps you stuck in North Ryoshima and I can't for the life of me think of how to escape. Here are some vids (I used cheats to speed this up):

Knew about the oni escape; too bad it doesn't lead to anything useful. As for the aoy escape -- that's how I imagine you can actually break into oni island before the water dragon part. Too bad I'm not crazy enough to go through every inch of that area to check whether the trigger is simply misplaced or isn't there at all. Fingers crossed for nrc not being a crappy-coding case scenario, as in I hope the oni entrance and pre-oni one aren't two separate levels -- which would mean the latter most definitely doesn't have the oni island entrance trigger.

Maybe you can navigate over to Catcall Tower, climb up to the top and use the mermaid spring up there >.> I seriously doubt it'd be any faster than just finishing Oni Island by that point though. (I assume Issun doesn't let you use the NRC one.)
I tried to go into Catcall Tower and Issun doesn't let you go in. I also tried going oob and getting into the house of the area which was 500000 miles away oob and then hoping that exiting it would put be back into the normal nrc but all it did was put me back in the oni island state. I'm not sure if anything can come out of either of these tbh, but idk we'll see.
Just finished Okami HD any% playthrough, nothing is patched except the Ryoshima Coast Camera trick for the water. KT glitch also works, and menus are SOOO FAST. Awesome version Smiley I can get KT's more consistently already.
Hello Okami runners,

I'm not a speed runner (yet), but I found something you guys might find interesting.  I was just playing through Okami HD casually the other day and ran into a glitch which allowed me to skip a small dialogue cutscene as well as teleport a short distance.  Not sure if anyone has found this yet.  After using the key in minified Emperor's Palace, I used bomb on the ground crack then power slashed nearby while the bomb was still out.  This cut the rope on the mist jar and teleported me over to the corresponding cutscene. The cherry bomb probably had nothing to do with it, but haven't gotten to do any testing either.  Luckily, I was streaming when it happened so here's a link.

After looking through this thread a bit, it looks like this isn't helpful in a NG+ run where it seems this entire section is skipped (can't find a video of the run for the life of me), but I thought it was interesting nonetheless and could be useful in other types of runs.  Can't wait to beat this so I can try out the NG+ skips.
