Well good luck with that.  At worst this was a practice run.

I've seen some of your videos, and there are enough things that I know you do really really well so that your run should have a chance in verification.

I'm guessing you got through with a very small amount of praise?  Then again, I bet some of the big hauls of praise late in the game would be worth getting.

I've used my praise for a pourse upgrade along with some ink upgrades. I had like 80 praise left at the fight with Rao so I've used it when I was low on health.
No health upgreades?
boss
Just one, only because I was low on health at that point (upgrading health regenerates it fully) and I didn't have enough praise to upgrade ink.

Quick question: Does the glitched graphics in your game detract any from the visual experience?

The glitched graphics at shinshu field that last for like 20 seconds? No, not at all.
Oh. The comments made me think they were there for a while.
boss
My PS2 gave up on me, it won't read any DVDs any more :(. It'll probably take some time before it gets fixed. Anyway, here are the only segments that I've managed to record (MQ vids):

segment 1 - http://files.filefront.com/ng+part1+MQavi/;8390951;;/fileinfo.html
segment 2 - http://files.filefront.com/ng+part2+MQavi/;8391007;;/fileinfo.html
Groobo makes the sequence breaks like the one at the beginning of segment 2 look easy, but believe me, they're not  Shocked

Plus everything else is so smooth; it's fun to watch Groobo play Okami.  This is the Okami run to watch (well along with the SS if Groobo ever decides to submit one of those), though 97% of the marathon one already up is very good too.
Hmm... pie?
My bad about last post, I should have checked if the site had it already...
boss
Here's some progress:

segment 3
segment 4
segment 5
segment 6 part1
segment 6 part2
segment 7

The next portion of vids will come when I get to oni island and that'll be it with the public updates.
Hey, just wanted to say that this improved New Game+ run is looking pretty awesome. I also saw most of the original 2:50 one, and that was really good as well. How on earth do you pull off the Karmic transformer glitch so easily though? Using it to climb steep slopes is easy enough, but I can never consistently do the mid-air version to climb up walls.

You can't do it consistently. It just takes a shit load of attempts.
Well...yeah. Most of those segments must be really frustrating then. I've been trying to figure out a way to do it consistently by timing the jumps or dashes or whatever, and at one point I thought I had something, but in different areas it wouldn't work at all. I'm thinking it might have more to do with when you press square.

Also, I've been looking at that route for Oni Island. If it's the same as the one in the original run, wouldn't you be able to save some time by going around the island, directly to the thunderstorm area, and continuing from there?

The kt glitch works like this: if you press square at the first frame you get back to the game after closing the menu, you dash. So you can't learn the timing and there's no way to do it consistently because the delay between closing the menu and getting back to the game is random. You can't even do it consistently with an autofire controller, hell, for me it's easier to do it the normal way, mashing square.

And as for oni island, you can't get into the castle in any other way than the main gate at the bottom area. Don't worry, shit like that was already tested :P.

edit: There aren't much people watching, but here's the last portion of public updates for the ones who will.

segment 8
segment 9
segment 10
segment 11
segment 12
segment 13

I hope to finish the run by the end of the year.

give me your eyes!!!
I've never played the game but I watched the entirety of Tom Batchelor's storyline inclusive run, so I've been anticipating a speedrun since. The applications of that glitch are incredible, even a first time viewer would know that some serious breaks are going on. Hearing you say how random it is then watching you do it three times in a row to scale a wall is extremely impressive. Everything else is tight too; planning obviously went into everything from jumping to brushstrokes. Can't wait for the rest!

Ok, I have some bad news...

I had this run done, the last thing for me was to upload the videos and submit it. Some days ago I lent a friend my ps2 together with my memory card. In the process I decided to redo the last segment when I get my ps2 back, so I erased the video. And of course, yesterday I got my ps2 back, with my memory card missing... I won't stand even looking at this game if it won't get found...

edit: Since oob glitches are allowed now, there's some hope for me to finish a decent ng+ run after all. I'll still be looking for some oob solutions for most parts of the game, but in case I won't find anything new I'll be shooting for sub 1:50. Yeah, more than 40 minutes will be shaved from the run I "finished" lately. Oh and I bought two memory cards this time, so that I can backup my progress...
I know I'm bumping a month old topic, but Okami for the Wii is coming out soon and I'm really excited about the run you're doing right now.
boss
Well, maybe not right now, but I'll get to it in the can't-say-near future.
Okay, I own the Wii version, and I must say that from being able to skip all cutscenes alone, a good hour might be cut off your time.

Wait, are you saying that you can skip the scenes in the Wii version without new game plus? If this is what your saying, a good few hours can be taken off the NG time, not like it matters now since no one will probably go back to that with NG+ out there.
boss
The wii version fresh new game would go down to about 4:30 with the sequence breaks that don't need any karmic transformers. I'm taking my run down as soon as I complete my NG+ which will beat the crap out of all the other categories since an out of the box run isn't needed anymore.
Bah!  I really want to watch the filefront vids, but I can't seem to get to them correctly via the links.  Help?
