6 months later, wow its been a long time. I was wondering if anybody still wanted to see a run of this? I have a fairly solid route planned for the entire game with boss strats and saving in mind(Trust me its way more in depth than anything that has been brought up so far). If a few people show some commenting interest I will happily pick this up. Needs verifiers, Grin go buy a used copy of it and try it its a great game, if you like JRPGs I am fairly certain you will like it.

The first segment I shot of this was about 4 months ago(I don't have it I could do it again). It was supposed to be casual, but I end up being too picky and it gets to be the real deal. It was 20 mins flat of me flawlessly running to Madril and saving immediately. I couldn't get the time any lower. I saved there because the boss fight was somewhat luck reliant and a 40 min segment didn't sit right with me at all. The thought of doing Ari's house again scared the s%$# out of me. Undecided

I actually ordered a copy of this to see if id be interested in running it SS two days ago.  I would definitely be interested in seeing a run of it.

SS? Really?

I was going for a segmented run and I still have no idea what the time is going to be like. I found ways to kill bosses extremely quickly but its very very risky definitely would not be worth it in a SS. Also heads up this is a very difficult RPG, main character dies, you lose and he is fairly frail. The bosses can kill you instantly if you are not topped off. Its not like a Final Fantasy. To do this in a SS you would need to not actually worry about being overleveled, but overgeared. The leveling up doesn't do that much and the EXP is handled very very strangely compared to other games.

Why do you think I want to run it?  I like a good challenge.  I would definitely look for safer strats then what would be used in a segmented run ill start working on it when my copy comes (Hopefully before AGDQ)

Cool i didn't mean to sound rude. I would use Linda then, my final run was coming down to Big Bull, Kisling, Ari. You'll see later. Linda is a far more defensive character and gains an ability at level 40 to heal all chars. Definitely your best bet for later in the run I just used her shes very good for removing luck reliant parts and controlling the battlefield, I don't use her so I can reset the game a few dozen times and try to cheat it. :-P

You have got me very interested in this SS I never considered it, If I find anything I will tell you. I am still trying to figure out where the saves are going to take place in my run. Probably the most annoying part in this game is moving around the interiors of buildings. You can move for 1.5 secs in the next area, before it actually loads the next area which makes for some annoying dexterity challenges. I don't think they will mean much in a SS though, they collisions don't waste a lot of time but if you are trying to be perfect it sucks.

There are 7 bosses and one final boss, according to SDA timing these days I don't even know where to stop in a SS. Every boss except the final boss has 5 adds that range from harmless to very deadly. The hardest parts of the boss fights are the beginning but you can think it out because its not real time. The bosses themselves get "deadlier" when at low health. The good news is that the game is linear AND there are no "random" encounters, instead you can dodge the ghosts that come to you, if hey hit you, you enter a random battle, the longer you dodge them the faster they get. Fleeing costs LP, a partywide MP pool that changes depending on each characters MP stat in the party. Sorry helpin you get started. Tongue
Lord Of The Beards
Cool no random encounters makes me happy.  I'm pretty sure SDA timing would end at the last time we have any form of control.

Some things I was thinking about, probably not the whole story but shows some alternatives once you got me thinking:

I think SS is going to be focused around one thing, not dying, and not relying on random dungeon encounters to level up they can be full of notoriously strong enemies. Its all about being better prepared through items/gear, the leveling is obsolete and strange, a SS level and Seg level would be the same for the most part.

Okay I now present to you something this site probably hasn't seen before, footage of the beta run for this game. This isn't the final run, I want to go through the game and determine the final time first. For the mean time I will be periodically uploading segments and they will have minor mistakes in them for now. This segment took about 20 tries to perform, with practice I had done 2 months ago. It was enjoyable to watch for me so I kept it to show, after the beta run I will do the real speedrun. This one is good but of course the final thing will be much more polished I am just blocking it in and wanted to show some progress.

Sub 20:00(in game timer) may damn well be impossible. This segment had about 30 seconds of errors? Tons of very small things that are barely noticeable that added up significantly. I am using a hardware backwards compatible PS3, on the PS2, it took 21 minutes(in game timer) as opposed to 20 minutes with the same methods.

Big Errors:
-Hitting the fence after after talking to the little kid. I don't think I needed to talk to the short guy after that error either. You must show stan off to everybody before you can get in town.

-The one error I was most unhappy with was one I couldn't avoid, it cost me 10 seconds when Stan decided to quiz me, and as far as I know that's luck reliant. You can answer his 3-part questionnaire and he will kill everything for you if you get it right but its not needed.

-There were some pretty undetectable movement errors, they don't waste a lot of time and I don't plan to eliminate 100% of them in the final run. You may have noticed how awkward I am moving around in chapter 2, that's to avoid the "random" encounters, cutting corners like other games will get you MORE random encounters, so staying in the middle of the path allows me to dodge them. Only getting 1 encounter on the way to Madril is uncommon.

For the beta run I am just going to cheese the boss fights a little, just by using a tad bit more recovery. In the real thing I already know its going to take several weeks to get a segment like this correct and I am willing to spend that time. For now I will definitely reset if somebody dies or I am forced into a several minute circle of healing which happens.

Time before the boss in my attempts is usually 29-30 minutes, counting the speech right before the boss starts. The bosses are much more skill reliant than I realized...I have figured out the best way to do the first boss and have gotten several attempts on him in which I have succeeded.

The odds of Rosalyns burst killing all adds is about 5%, pretty freaking low. I can do better on this boss but there were no true errors, just things that could have gone faster that really had no penalty. The bosses are not at all troublesome once the adds die, and when they do it's no longer a luck reliant fight but much more on micro management to deal massive damage very quickly which involves a bit of strategy if you are to not be interrupted by healing.

Time so far ~33 minutes. On chapter 3 where I get Kisling. This guy beats people to death with books...very hardcore party member.

Second Boss complete- Time is about 0:59 at the end of this segment though I did not upload the dungeon, not bad only working on this dungeon for 2 hours. I really need to get better at managing my stuff faster, it stops the entire fight since its not in real time. Still in the beta run.

It may seem simple and easy to wipe all the adds out, its not trust me, took me like 15 attempts on this boss, and probably close to 30 failed attempts counting urn resets.

I have discovered there will be as few as ~10 random encounters in this run.

Something rarely talked about are compatibility gifts, the game rewards you later on for having a good relationship with someone, the reward changes depending on who it is. Marlene's is by far the best as it gives Ari's ultimate armor, but Rosalyn's hardly wastes any time to grab, and her affinity for me seems to happen automatically just choosing the top options, something to look into as it turns her into a destructive machine. I have been reading FAQs for this game a lot, they have been helpful but don't tell me boss Hp.

Escapeless Abyss is done, the boss is dead but I am redoing him to get some better attempts in, unlike the last boss, there's going to be some luck reliant damage splitting in this one. The last 2 attempts that worked were a bunch of bum rushes with too many missed hits. Time is about 1:50 so far.

On my many tries on Chairmen Evil King I seem to have stumbled on a fairly safe method for a SS. You must use powerless on this fight on the adds, then use frost 5 times on them to kill them all,  have Ari kill the boss the entire time, if all goes well they die at the same time, if you use the bountiful nut you can kill him easily and swiftly this way, 6-7 turns the fight should end.

Unlike the last dungeon, this one is linear. 11 urns to kill and though these ones do less damage in spikes, they still force me to heal after every fight due to their "Flame" aoe ability. The boss is nowhere near as difficult as the last, though his HP seems to be well over 2000. It is the first damage intense fight in the game, its there to make sure you are optimizing everything, because if you take too long, there will be casualties due to how hard the boss hits and how often he crits. This is a long fight, the 3rd longest in the game.
This is looking good. is this latest boss the third longest becuse they just gave him a bunch of HP or becuse you can't exploit him.

By the way, how many levels do you think you need to grind throughout the durration of this game.

HP is mainly the reason. His is much higher than most of the other bosses, even the later ones have less HP than him(so it seems). Depends what you mean by exploit?

Again I am not quite sure what your definition of grinding is, you mean killing stuff that isn't mandatory for the run?

This boss fight is giving me a very hard time, mainly because of the adds, they have a lot of HP and have a silence spell which the game calls "Quiet." Initially when it is placed on a character it does nothing. The status ailment is called "Lock," and status ailments get worse if you don't cleanse them off somehow. The 1st stage is no LP spells can be used, the 2nd is no HP spells either(including overdrive), and the 3rd means I can't use items either. This boss is the most luck reliant I have seen so far, and he hits very very hard, any party member below 50% HP will likely die the next move.

He's dead, fight lasted less than 5 mins but it was a risky as hell strategy, to save anyone reading this the trouble, the adds die within the first minute of battle. The adds: Burly Bullx4 have 225HP each, while the boss, as I suspected has around ~2625HP. Kisling is lucky to survive this fight, in fact all attempts that were successful ended in him dying. If this were any other RPG that would be catastrophic due to the EXP loss, but not in Okage. I think I am just going to let Kisling die there, he only has 88 HP, while everyone else has close to 140, and the boss hits people for 97-125 with melee. I am not going to reset the fight a million times just to be that perfect in the real thing. Especially not when I am doing the entire dungeon before it. At least I have the strat figured out for this insanely hazardous boss.

The next dungeon is so easy because the urns cannot hit me, they die from bum rushing in 1 wave of attacks. As luck would have it I am right in front of the save diary anyway from trekking back to the start to get the battlefront coat at the start. Its Kisling's 2nd best piece of armor, and at least if I don't need it it  sells for a very high amount. So I really saw no reason not to waste 25 seconds grabbing it, plus its an excuse to save. For experimentation purposes I will try using him in a bit, I'd have to see the HP of the "Milky Urns" in Deep Grave Pit and if he can replace Big Bull later, as crazy as that sounds.

And Linda's down now. This fight had to be the easiest fight in the entire game ffs. No recovery required whatsoever even after having Ari use overdrive twice. One thing is for certain, the entire party gets poisoned badly no matter what. The fight lasted about 2:45, that's actually a very short fight compared to the other bosses, it may even be shorter than Sewer Evil King. The main issue is not survival for once, its not letting the boss with her annoying movepool stall you and waste several minutes.

She has the most annoying movepool out of any boss, the movepool includes Heavy Load(Slows a party member), LP Downer(Drains LP or mana equivalent from entire party), Midnight(This is what she can use to stunlock your team for 3 minutes straight, puts your entire team to sleep), and of course her regular melee attacks that aren't threatening at all. The adds die in 2 turns, no burst required. To counter her from stunlocking my team, I have Rosalyn use Parasol Amulet so she can't be poisoned or put to sleep, so even if the other 2 party members get locked down, she can still hit her.

Saving at the Madril Sewer entrance on the return trip well, to avoid spoilers. The beta run is currently at 2 hours 41 minutes, which means we could see a 5 hour speed run? I am not sure its definitely not going to be over 6 hours I can tell you that.
