I don't think dying on GnG is a problem, considering I think it's an achievement getting past the title screen in that game. I can at least do the first level in Battletoads.
I'd race someone at Final Fantasy VI; don't know how interesting that would be, though.
I'd take that challenge
On topic: When and how long shouldn't be an issue for me save for needing to be picked up / dropped off at the nearest airport / train station. Activities aren't a big issue either (last get-together I went to (ScoreHero) was based around Six Flags and a night of Karaoke).
Andrew and Frezy can do Super Mario Bros. 3. Yeah, yeah, restarts, but I can dream can't I?
deaths are ok in live competition!
I'd definately be up for that. Knowing my luck, I'd actually beat my speedrun record live (without recording it) That's the kind of thing I'm always worried about when doing speedruns somewhere where I can't record.
And Kareshi, I'd be up for a Jaws speedrun competition. I really hope I can make it.
If I know I can go, I'm going to try and make pre-speedrun competition plans if people are up to it. ( I kind of doubt I'll be able to go though. :/) I'd be willing to speedrun against anyone on almost any game (not RPGS though ;))
The only games I could possibly speedrun live are Guardian Heroes and MMX4 (the latter because it's so easy). MMX is possible I guess, but I would have to practice again
Zhegan, if you're actually present the TSS tourney would end in 2 hours
Speedrun competitions is awsome. I have done that a lot actually. Me and Tompa had competitions for Super mario world in many hours. it was quite fantastic I have also wathed him playing Donkey kong country for hours. From my point of view. Live speedruns can be very entertaining. The event will probably ending up in a lots of multi player gaming for all kind of games too.
Also for Super mario 3 and it works kind of well. and is very fun. For all kind of speedrun competitions avoidning risk is very important. without being nervous from watchers My chance for a 10:55-12:30 run would be 95 % ( it feels like that now anyway ). The boring part is the hands off course. Its a hole miute in differences between if you get past all of them or if you are taken of all three. I guess some players have lost a lots of skills for games during the time that have passed after the record where made. Ninja gaiden 3, Duck tales 2, Mega man 4,5 and X2 is good example from my side. I havent touched Mega man X2 after I did that run. The same goes for Ninja gaiden 3. I dont remember well how to speedrun that game. I did just played the game for pretty much one period.
On the other hand Im still very sharp in games like SMB3, Contra, Mega man 3. Games that I have played hardcore in many periods. I think specially Contra is a good game for live competitions and for a show. For example, If I am warmed up and not nervous for eventually watchers my chance for finish it under 10:40 can probably be over 50 %. Maybe even higher then that.
This event could also be awsome for CO-OP runs. I would love to run Contra together with someone. Stanski or Croc doc!?
Im kind of stooked about how many guys that mean that you will show up or Maybe. To meet guys like Uyama, stanski, andrewG ( you have to show up, hehe. ), Croc doc, Nate, dragonarch, Trevor, VGmr, Liger, Kareshi, satoryu, empteye, Tiki
Whatever all names are. I would appriciate if you show up. Enhasa, you can add me as a "definite".
I can speak from experience and say that mostly, live speedruns suck. I'm so used to restarting that when I screw up, it really bugs me and its very hard to recover. People can still be impressed, but yea its not that great ot watch. I don't think i could beat sonic 2 under 21 minutes consistently lol.
But could you beat it in under 22 minutes consistently.:-p
The real problem for live speedruns is for the speedrunner not to be too hard on themselves (we're our own worst critics).:-p
Anyways it doesn't look like I'll attend as if neither MT nor Trevor is going to go I don't have much desire to go either.:-(
CT is about 5 hours away from MD if we're meeting up at Mike's place. He only said "might go if it's in reasonable driving distance", correct? Or did he tell you personally it's a definite "no"? <_<
Clarification: I'm definitely going to MAGFest, so if this were held there, I'd obviously go. Otherwise, it becomes a lot harder for me to make it; pending the definite decision of a location/time, "Probably" is a bit optimistic for me.
As for why MAGFest is when it is, it's essentially because that's when the con gets cheap rates from the hotel.
And I still think this is proof that live speedruns can work, but then I'm sort of biased in that regard.

He said he'd consider if it was within 3 hours or so; it would actually take him close to 6 (and me close to 7) hours in order to get to Virginia. I think both Trevor and I would be more interested in going to Japan anyways to meet Zeno and Shin.:-p Not sure if that'll ever happen but who knows...in a few years time.......

That's pretty cool. When did you guys get together to do this?
Emptyeye, things are looking great for you. And the reason is, Mike's house is literally 15 minutes away from MAGFest. So whether or not we're "officially" at MAGFest, we will definitely be in the area at least.

Shit, if it was the same distance, I'd rather meet Zeno and Shin as well.
