SDA is awesome, and meeting people you know from SDA would be even more awesome. Right now, we are planning a get-together over winter break (any sooner would be infeasible at this point), on the US east coast (probably mid-atlantic). The reason for this is selfish but clear: most of staff live in the eastern US. For the Europeans, you guys could hold a parallel meeting in Europe, unless somehow you wouldn't mind traveling to the US.

Your job right now is simple. Post how likely you would be to attend, so that we can figure how big of a get-together we'd be looking at. If it's big enough, we might want to "attach" to some sort of other event (we can't all stay at Mike's house, after all), but I don't know what that'd be. I don't really care about the game music scene or whatever, but in terms of being 1) related to gaming, 2) winter, 3) east coast US, MAGFest fits those criteria. Emptyeye loves it, and Mike thought it was ok, and those are the only SDA opinions I know about that.

Feel free to suggest anything you can think of, including other possible events to base this around, if you'd rather this be informal and stand-alone, or whatever. The benefit of an event like MAGFest is we could make a formal appearance and gain some publicity I suppose.

Quote from Enhasa:
About people not knowing if they can afford to make it or dunno if they'll have time, that's why we're planning this such in advance, so you can get ready. You don't have to drive, you could take the greyhound or amtrak or (gasp) even fly. Also, school won't be a problem, we're not going to schedule this when anyone would be in school.

These people live in the area and could possibly host you on a FCFS or "they don't hate you" or "you bribe them" basis, so please ask:

mikwuyma (invite only, doh!)
Arkarian (lives 90 mins away but is commuting every day HARDCORE... if you are m2k2 he'll probably accept you)
tjp7154

Otherwise MAGFest has a special rate ($100/night), get ready to share your room with lots of hopefully nonsmelly gamers for discount multiplier!

Unless I'm hit by an economic miracle sometime in the next 6 months, no way. Wink

E: Which is a shame, I'd love to attend, but a trip to the US would cost a bit too much, even with the dollar as worthless as it is.

I'll invent a teleporter so I can bypass the 16-hour drive.
Hi! I'm andrewg!
"(we can't all stay at Mike's house, after all)"

That's what YOU think.  Wink

I MIGHT be able to go to this. I'm thinking more towards no than yes currently though. That could change in a few months though. of course I'd love to go.

Are you still from Colorado-adjacent?

I might have a driver's license by then, and I'd try to go.  50% odds maybe?  It's too awesome to not consider.  Even if Kibumbi would be there Tongue
While I'd love to attend something like this (Mike isn't even that far away from me, by the way), I basically lack the ability to get there at the moment (short of asking for a ride). If I can get a job and/or my own vehicle by that point though, it should be safe to put me on the "will attend" list.

Hey, if Bsidwell comes, then he can finally punch me like he's always wanted to! Huzzah! Tongue

If this turns out to actually become something real, I don't exactly plan to bring the IRC fight with me. You'll discover a completely different side of me Grin
100% runs=great to watch
Unknown as to attendance on my end totally, but might I suggest a concurrent webcamming of sorts along with a parallel meetup in the land of the Euro?  This would be the next best step to everybody being on the same plot of land in the same part of the world, would add faces, more voices, and more hijinks to the SDA crowd.
I'd want to come, but something tells me my parents won't let me Undecided
Visually Appealing
it really depends on location. i'm not up to leaving the New York City area, physically or financially.
Wow, SDA single-handedly fueling the oil crisis.  Wink

Seriously though, I guess my likeliness to attend would be based around if there's anyone in the Manitoba / North Dakota Area who'd want to carpool there and back and help pay for gas / share the driving load.  I think it'd be about 5-6 tanks for both ways (assuming I'm looking at the right Uyama on 411 locate), which with today's prices puts it at about $400+ for transport alone.  It'd be really interesting to meet all of you in person, but its bloody expensive.

So, I guess for me likeliness (L), on a scale of [0,1], with N being the number of people to go with is:

L = 0.1 + (0.27 * N)

Complete. Global. Saturation.
I'd love to go, if I had a car. Maybe Liger can drive me or something. Hell, I'd even pitch in for the booze fund (or the lemonade fund for those that don't drink the hops stuff).

Yep.  If you take Interstate 70, you'll drive right by me.  It is indeed too awesome not to consider.

Most of yall here wouldn't know me, as I'm much more involved over at m2k2, but I live in Maryland (forty minutes north of DC) and would definitely attend, especially since there's talk of getting an m2k2 subgroup together as well.
I want off the ride....
Living in florida, I could attempt to come. Depending on when it is and how it lines up with my classes, i could probably arrange for an appearance.. though that means little to a lot of people..
wise fwom yo gwave
I'll probably be in maryland if i'm still together with my girlfriend over christmas, so i'm in. will have to practice up on sonic 2 so i can show off!

of a speedrunning meeting will be an awful idea though, we will all look like we suck at the games we are playing and no one will understand why anyone is restarting... speaking from experience and watching uyama play contra 3 live heh.
yeah, i'll see you there. basically i'm in west texas and i will drive to the location if there are enough people on the way to pick up. we'll need to split gas/hotels (i can't make it in a single day, especially if i am making detours to pick people up) but my car (honda civic) gets 40 mpg so don't worry too much about that. also if you can't possibly pay then don't worry about it and i'll cover the cost.

i've also announced this at m2k2 and some people from there have already said they are coming. i'll try to introduce everyone but please bear with me as i've never met most of you irl before. hopefully other people from both sites can help with that.
everybody wanna tell you the meaning of music
Heh we wouldn't do too much speedrunning for others to see, although we could if we pick the right games or runners. Messing up and only beating kinda fast would still look good to lots of people, just don't die haha. Anyway it would be more like showing some runs like PAX only we would actually be there, and maybe we would give a talk or something, who knows.

oh yeah, depending on mike or whoever's connection, i can definitely broadcast some stuff through an sda server so people who can't make it can sort of get a mediocre quasi-experience as well.
Despite actually living on the East Coast, I'll have to pass this one up.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!

I would consider going if one of you poor souls could play train pickup and dropoff duty.
I will probably be able to attend.
