Yeah, I'm sure some people are sick of OoT, but I decided to start this topic for some crazy reason. Insanity...

Basically, this would be a "low %" run, or trying to collect the least amount of items possible in the run. It would basically be a harder version of the 3-heart challenge, as I would be collecting no Heart Containers.

I think these are the minimum items needed to complete OoT (please correct me if I'm wrong):

Equipment: Kokiri Sword, Deku Shield, Master Sword, Mirror Shield, Kokiri Tunic, Goron Tunic, Kokiri Boots, Iron Boots, Hover Boots

Items: Deku Stick, Deku Slingshot, Fairy Ocarina, Weird Egg/Cucco, Zelda's Letter, Bomb, Boomerang, Ocarina of Time, Hookshot, Megaton Hammer, Fairy Bow, Longshot, Din's Fire, Bombchu, Light Arrows

Important Items: All Jewels, All Medallions, Gerudo's Card, Goron Bracelets, Silver Gauntlets

I know it's possible to skip the Goron Tunic and the Bolero of Fire cutscene; however, as I would only have three hearts, I would need three or four fairies to defeat Volvagia, and I think the amount of bottles needed would outweigh not getting the Goron Tunic.

The run would be slower than the 4:57 run without having Farore's Wind to warp faster and skip key(s) in the Water/Shadow Temple.

Some questions for this run:
1) Is it possible to abuse the Crouch stab glitch without a shield? I'd be going through the first part of adult Link without the Hylian Shield, so I need to know.
2) Any suggestions for survival?
3) Is there an efficient way for skipping the Goron Tunic?

Uh, post away, I guess.

IDK about the crouch stab. Try the following:
get eaten by likelike, or be kid link and have fire keese hit you. Then just test it out. I will tonight though in case you aren't in that position.
No the Quail is not riding the Q
wha? crouch stab without the shield...
I think you should try that before even thinking about doing a run of this...

Playing the game without taking any damage is a great start...

No way, take damage. Just know where any "set" hearts are, that way you can always get more.

Well, I have to take damage, if I want to abuse damage boosts in the Spirit and Shadow Temples.

K, I'm going to try out the crouch stab now.

Just on the one thing in the spirit temple...and sadly rolling into the fire would do no good because after you receive the boss key you get burned anyway...

I've done this; it's not THAT hard.  remember that you do get one bottle, and I suggest you use it.  Practice Ganondorf and Ganon a LOT.  they both do 3 hearts of damage in a single blow (this is enough to kill you).  also, I think you'll need the Zora tunic.  otherwise, good luck lowering the water in Water Temple in 24 seconds.

And I think you'll need a shield to crouch stab.

Oh, shit... I forgot about Water Temple.

Um... my route will need some revisions... any ideas? Should I bring Blue Flame for King Zora, or just buy one as a kid? (I'm thinking the King.)

EDIT: What's the longest time I'll have to stay underwater? With a fairy in the bottle, I could stay under for 48 seconds, so I may not need the Zora Tunic. Will I have to stay under for 24 seconds multiple times?

Is The Hylia site running? Every time I go there, I can't get linked to the strategies under individual games.

you'll have to do the king.  you need the Giant's Wallet otherwise, and I don't think that would fit with a minimalist run.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
All right, I forgot how much it cost. King Zora it is if I need the Tunic.

Also, I edited post above, people; please reply.

I have no idea.  also, a good strategy for Dark Link would probably be good.  the only one I know is to use Din's Fire (3 hits and he's dead), but there's probably a better one.

There's always smacking him with the Megaton Hammer...

Brown Bomber if you want I'll of course provide any footage needed for you.
As long as you make an effort, I'll help out with the difficult parts.

Though I don't know for sure there is the bad news...
with no Goron Tunic, three hearts & one fairy I'm almost certain it is impossible to beat volvagia

Anyway...
The Goron Tunic should not be skipped according to my fastest completion route...so I guess you are going to have to climb death mountain to skip it....
No Zora Tunic, no matter what.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
: ( I'm sad with no Zora Tunic.  Well, I'll see how long I have to stay underwater in the Water Temple at certain parts.

No crouch stab without a shield; Link merely waves his sword around, kind of like in TSA's sig. Should I go for the Hylian Shield, or just suck it up and go for a bit of longer boss battles?

I guess I'll be going for the Goron Tunic after all... meh... I guess...
No the Quail is not riding the Q
Well the odd thing is that it is either get more heart containers or an item....
By getting the item (Goron's Tunic) you make this run the same as fastest completion just without Farore's Wind Shocked (No Hylian Sheild as well  Sad )
With a few more heart containers (least amount needed to survive the boss) you can skip the the tunic and atleast make the run intresting with something new.
"PAINNNNN"
I would just like to say it be nice to send my proof video in the form of two vhs tapes of a min. run of oot to this site, but I'm mailing it to TG tommorow morning which gives me 2nd place and a time of 6:19:08(under my timing), although the referee might time it to be off by a few seconds, that's up to his judgement until then my next oot run will be with skipping the lens and blue tunic which should give me at least 5:39(NTSC) if not better according to some mental math ive been doing as well as taking away the major mistakes in my current run. It'll take six heart containers minimum to defeat Volvagia with one fairy. If I collect all of the heart containers to that point, it should be enough. I'll also have to collect one more later in the run to survive the fire room in Ganon's castle.

How much time would skipping the Bolero of Fire cost? It would cost the ability to run to Kakariko Village and learn the Nocturne of Shadow quickly. I could always play the Minuet of Forest and warp to Goron Village from the Lost Woods; however, how much time would that waste?

To make things interesting, I'll trade in the three-heart aspect for skipping the tunic and Bolero of Fire. Should I use the Hylian Shield for boss fights that are a bit quicker, or just screw it and try it without it?

Okay, somebody clear this up.

If the timer runs out in the Fire Temple with no Fire Tunic, you get a GAME OVER, right?  If you have a fairy, you revive, right?  You get more time?

How much time do you get with 3 hearts?  Is it possible to beat Volvagia with only 3 hearts and 1 fairy?

If not...then there are multiple paths to "minimalist".

You either need:
- Extra HCs
- An Extra Bottle with Fairy
- Fire Tunic.

Am I right?

I see you need 6 hearts for Volvagia...

Then I'm sorry, more than 1 HC is not minimalist.  I would say you need an extra bottle or the Fire Tunic.

you get 2 seconds for every 1/4 heart.  that means that you get 48 seconds with 1 fairy and 3 heart containers. (assuming the clock starts as soon as you enter volvagia's room, and not counting his entrance scene).  Is that enough time?  if not, each additional heart container is 16 more seconds.  an extra bottle is 24 more seconds.

so, what's the fastest you can beat volvagia in?

also, note that the same formula applies for underwater.  so what's the longest one must stay underwater in the water temple (without Farore's wind)

Also, how would "percentage" be figured?  would heart containers, items, equipment, and upgrades be equal in value, or would some get weighted more heavily than others (equal would make more sense, though, as that's how Metroid does it).

The Water Temple I know a way to bypass the timer.  Alternate between taking the Iron Boots on and off at the right time, you will delay the start of the timer.

Fire Temple - Watch my Volvagia video on 4:57 or 5:04.  They can't be too far off from optimized speed.

It feels like this subject has been gone over at least twice. Well, does losing items decrease percentage? (having a Like Like take care of the shield and tunic)

In v1.0, you can glitch the timer to stop the "it's hot in here" timer from coming up by having another timer running. This lets you breath underwater or muck around in Volvagia's chamber for as long as you like. The problem is that it requires a little bit of preparation to trigger it and it will cost you some time. But it's the only way to get a "truly" minimal run, since you probably are against dirty tricks such as using Like Likes. For details, scroll half-way down http://speeddemosarchive.com/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=consoles_newer;action=display;num=1126007628;start=60

I don't know what implications there are for turning up to Ganon's castle's fire barrier with 3 hearts and no tunic, but this glitch will probably work here as well.

I think you should try for a no-damage run. Do it in segments to maintain your sanity (you'll accidentally get hit eventually, wouldn't want that to happen 5hrs into the run). Don't do damage boosts... why would you? You're already doing a slower route, what's a 1 second boost going to help you?

Well, I pretty much figured out I would need the Fire Tunic after some calculations. So, with the timer reset in Water Temple, I could make it with three hearts. I could still skip the Bolero of Fire, though.

Here's my basic route for skipping Bolero...any improvements?

Get Zora Sapphire - Go to Hyrule Field, get OoT - Get Din's Fire - Go to Temple of Time - Become Adult - Go to Hyrule Field - Kakariko Village, get Hookshot - Death Mountain Trail - Goron Village, get Goron Tunic - Death Mountain Trail - K. Village - Hyrule Field - Hyrule River - Zora's Domain - Ice Cavern, learn Serenade of Water - Warp to Lake Hylia, learn Scarecrow's Song - Go to Zora's River, take shortcut to Lost Woods, learn Minuet of Forest, get Fairy Bow - Warp to Lake Hylia - Go to Water Temple, get Longshot - Warp to Sacred Forest Meadow, take shortcut to Goron Village - Death Mountain Trail - Death Mountain Crater, skip Bolero using scarecrow and Longshot - Clear Fire Temple - Warp with Minuet of Forest, clear Forest Temple - Warp with Serenade of Water, complete Water Temple - go to Gerudo Fortress from there

EDIT: Oh... I JUST re-read the last post. Shit, that trick works, and I can get a 1.0 cart. All right... I think I'll need some serious re-thinking of my route...

As for no damage.... uh, maybe, but I doubt it. Three hearts without a shield for about half the game is enough for now.
