good segments. cucco collecting could have been a few seconds faster, but I guess you made up for it by lucking out with the first one.

Okay, I've tried hovering on a console. After it takes me like 8 tries to get ISG, I try the hover and nothing happens.

I put the sword away, backflip, shield drop a bombchu while still holding my shield out, and Link just falls.

I've tried with and without hover boots as adult link so far. No luck at all.

Also, I tried running as far as I've gotten so far today. I used up my deku nuts on the keese in the grave and then I couldn't do the skulltula clip. I need to figure out a way to kill them that doesn't involve waiting for them to dive.
Are you sure your timing is correct and that you're not ending up too close to the ground (resulting in Link falling)?
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
adult link has some weird timing. you should try different methods to find the best way to hover.
the time between which button presses should be variable?

I'm pressing Z-DOWN-A-C-R basically just one after another, or as fast as I can before Link hits the ground. I wasn't aware there's variable timing involved.

The more variables there are to consider, the less likely I'll be to finish the run. I can't really perfect things like timing except in rhythm games, so it will be shocking to me if I get to where I can hover 9 / 10 times.

Hovering and ISG becomes doable without much thought at all eventually. It sounds like you are trying to chu hover where you would have to first staircase hover. Are you backflipping off a ledge or on somewhat level ground. In oot after the first hover if you are not off the ground enough you will drop back down. This rule can be sidestepped with soem advanced stuff, but for now think of it as you can't get off the ground and stay up there when hovering on ~level ground with chus...

Oh, I thought that was only kid link, hence the slingshot thing.

No, I was trying in the middle of Hyrule field. I was going to try inside Ganon's tower, off a ledge, but I couldn't successfully ISG a bomb. It's weird, cause I've done it before, without really even thinking about it, but now I just can't seem to pull it off.

Well, my adaptoid arrived, so I'll practice a little more on the emulator with a controller, finally, before I go back to console.

Oh, and with my new controller, I can finally quickspin. It's pretty cool; I could never do it before.
I'm not your buddy, guay!
You read the bomb hover page right? You can't just start a hover on level ground with chus in the middle of hyrule field. Try it off a ledge somewhere.

Check out this video too:
The one thing I can't figure out, is what the heck is the "Down A" glitch?

For example, on http://zeldaspeedrun.dreamhosters.com/oot/tech/hovering.php there's a section called Down A / Slippery slopes. Here's the description:

If you try hovering over a surface that if you walk it you will slide, you will be stuck in place. You cannot backflip or sidehop and only occasionaly roll. You will need to draw your sword or use a bomb or chu to blow you out of the hover. However if you have the Down A glitch activated while hovering this will not happen because Down A can walk on slippery slopes normally.

However, I never have seen anywhere else on that site that Down A is even mentioned. Anyone care to shed some light on the situation?
Hey, I haven't really payed attention to many of the newer pages, so I have a few questions:

1) Is the new forest escape being put into the any%?

2) Whats ESS and how is it used?

Also I've been experimenting with the new forest escape, though I probably haven't found anything you guys haven't yet:

-The best new rupee route would probably be like this:
Segment 2:
Get 5R from behind house, 5R from jumping stones, 5R from inside Shop, buy deku nuts
Segment 3:
Get sword, crawl through hole (navi should be ready by now), escape forest, then the next stuff

-I did some timing, and compared Runnerguys run time up to Hyrule field entrance with a short run I did with the new forest escape:
Runnerguy's time = 3:39
New forest escape time = 3:57 I didnt really make any mistakes, and my forest escape was about 8 seconds faster than in Runnerguys vid

-Using Ocarina instead of OI saves almost exactly 10 seconds each time

hi samoth

so much stuff has been discovered since you were last here. nice to see you back

most of new stuff is on this channels:
http://www.youtube.com/user/Acryte
http://www.youtube.com/user/MrGrunz

ESS means endless superslide. I've discovered the HISS a while back for MM, an endless superslide with superslide speed and acryte discovered how to do it in OoT afterwards.

if you use the new forest escape, you have no shield to superslide, so it is slower Wink

The new forest escape is going to be used in Cs1987's any% SS. He is going to get the shield too.

^ Yeah, definitely. My current 55 rupee route is:

- Get to sword, making sure to get all 3 lots of 5 rupees on the way (should have at least 18 by now)
- Chop sign (23)
- Jump across platforms (28)
- Mido's house (38)
- Behind Mido's house (43)
- Two rupees between Mido's house and platforms (45)
- Jump across platforms again (50)
- Kokiri shop (55)

Any suggestions?

I will also definitely use the following in my run that I didn't use in my test run: Slightly better cucco route, jump over potion shop, Deku stick power crouch stabs on Dead Hand, crouch stabs on Stalfos and Ganondorf, jumping to Ganondorf's platform early, Runnerguy's method against Lizalfos and more superslides. These tricks alone, plus faster bombchus early, should easily be enough to beat 1:40.

Also, I don't know what the Down A glitch is either.

For the rupee route you should have 21 rupees after leaving the kokiri sword area.  You should also slash some bushes before slashing the sign in case you get lucky and get some rupees so you can skip 1 of the blue rupee chests in midos house.

You will also be including the staircase hover method of trial skip right?  Its too fast to leave out.

Down A.
I'm not your buddy, guay!
Yes, you should have 21 after coming back through the hole and backflipping. I'd then do this:
- chop sign (26)
- two rupees next to Mido's house (28)
- blue rupee behind Mido's house (33)
- blue rupees in his house (43)
- two rupees next to Mido's house again (45) They come back after entering and exiting his house
- Cross platform (50)
- Shop (55)

If you want to slash the bushes and try and get 2 rupees, then you can cut out the first group of two near his house and just go right into his house to save some time.

And I'd still do the jumpslash method for the trials. It's only 10 seconds slower but is pretty much impossible to mess up. After 1:20+ into a SS run, where your hands are probably a bit worn and your focus is probably not the best, and if it were a good run so far and you were nervous, I would not be looking to do a staircase hover. Plus it costs 3 bombs, which could mean an extra bomb drop somewhere.
I love YaBB 1G - SP1!
Even though this is not part of a speed run, can someone link me to a place that teaches crooked cartage videos.

1. How to get out of kokiri forest without using the lost woods.
2. Any temple of time methods?

Or just link me to a bunch of different videos.
Did not have much luck on youtube except for a few.

I completely agree, and I seriously doubt that anyone will convince me to do the staircase hover trials skip. It does require a fairly precise angle and position (I've done it enough times to know), so I wouldn't want to rush it - that would almost certainly result in an error. Because of that I'm pretty sure I couldn't consistently do it in under 20 seconds after entering the trials room, even if I could do the staircase hover first attempt every time (which I don't think anyone could rely on over an hour into an SS). On the other hand I can pretty consistently do the old trials skip in under 30 seconds using a new method I've worked on over the past week. So the new trials skip probably saves about 9 seconds, or 3 seconds per bomb. There are plenty of much easier bomb tricks earlier in the run that save more than 3 seconds per bomb, so it's not as if the new trials skip is one of the more important time saving tricks in the run.

Also, unless I'm very lucky with bomb drops after stealing the rod or don't do enough superslides (which would be stupid, since superslides are better time savers than the new trials skip), I will probably have five or less bombs in Ganon's Castle, which means I absolutely have to do it on the first attempt. That is not the kind of run breaker I would want at the end of a very hard, 1:30 plus run (well, very hard to get SDA quality anyway), especially when it only saves a few seconds.

I apoligize if it's been answered already, but why is it that we have to wait for a newer version of mupen(or whatever the reason was for the TAS not being done yet) for the rest of the OoT RBA TAS to be finished? Didn't the OoT MST TAS Get finished after the child link part of the RBA one?

I just want to see a new OoT TAS so bad lol

Not what he meant at all, neither of those videos have anything to do with crooked cartridge...

I like the first video link though, but yes that is not what I meant.
After reading through the glitch list about cut scene diving.
I have a feeling you can probably get into the well as a child like this.
Instead of an enemy, can you use a bomb?
If not, then the chicken attack maybe?

No to both.  It needs to be a spesific type of damage.
I've been testing stuff out, and do you think could we possibly do the vine glitch when we are fighting ganon to go out of bounds and magically appear at the castle collapse squence?

Also, is it possible to do the boss door skip with jumpslash+hovering on doors with bars over them? I dont know how to do it and i'd like to try it on the barred doors in the ganon fighting room.
To your first point - Vine glitch only works as child, due to his grabbing animation pushing him through the wall a bit. Even if it did work as adult, I highly doubt it would skip light arrows, as I assume the game is programmed to only end the fight when ganondorf takes his final hit. Maybe making him dissapear by falling out of bounds would work, but if it doesn't work on other bosses I doubt it'd work here.

To your second point - The boss door skips rely on the fact that the loading zone can be accessed from oob. Barred doors lack a loading zone, so thus no way to skip them by going out of bounds.

Also, back a few posts to the OoT TAS question - You need either reset, hover boots, or warp song to skip dot from master sword side as adult. That means we need to wait for a version with legitimate resetting.
