Wasn't there some other way to get in without a boundary glitch? I remember reading it somewhere...
Everybody loves Hypnotoad!
I'm sorry; I meant that there was no SDA legal way in.  I thought that that boundary glitch wasn't allowed.

Speed is the key.
There's no way (that I know of) to enter the water temple without the hookshot without leaving the game world. Radix didn't allow the "Domain --> Lake" glitch, so he certainly wouldn't allow the laboratory glitch.

I think I should stick with AA's route, I don't want to change the route after I've started running, it's so complex so changing it could easily ruin something under the surface. That's the reason why I played though the route before I started running; to see if everything worked out.
Well, the modified route was to skip the hookshot. Since you can't do so without breaking sda boundary rules, i guess it doesn't matter.  Wink

Segment 9

Sorry about the sound, I don't know what I did wrong. Angry

Got the cucco jump on my third attempt, spent almost no time aligning, though. I didn't have to wait for the guards to move, either. Smiley

What bothers me is that I couldn't find a consistent way to do the jump. Sometimes I get it, sometimes I don't, even though I'm doing exactly the same thing. Too much randomness for my taste.

I have to move on with the run.

Edit: I finished a very good segment 10... it has something like 3 seconds of mistakes but otherwise almost perfect. I lost those 3 seconds when going for the skulltula in the rock structure.

I think it's more important for me to work on the next segment that's really hard, than spending time trying to shave off those seconds.

What do you guys think?
Segment 9: Except for 3 attempts at the jump, it was a very good segment. The sound was a bit low, yea, but i just put the speakers loud and it was okay (until someone signed into msn and i nearly fell off my chair  ::))

As for segment 10, i don't think 3 seconds is something you should really loose sleep over. I'd just go on with the run.

What I do to get the jump everytime is I go align myself with the right side of the triangle pole (facing it) then I walk forward to the very tip of it, then I turn around 180 degrees.  You should be at the very tip of the pole and lined up with the guard infront of the fence.  Then all you do is tilt the analog stick diagonal right.

Should work everytime.

Note:  You can reach the skulltula that's on the hill thing in Desert Collosus by seam walking up the side of the hill.

ah i see

but you can overwrite Golden Gauntlets if you pick them before SG and then pick SG. that happened to me years ago when i used a gameshark to mess with OoT.

It would take long to align like that, since you can't go into first person view when holding a cucco. I'll stick with the segment I got.

Anyway...

Segment 10

The next segment will be hell. I will have big trouble staying alive and keeping my shield from burning up. This will be harder than the cucco jump segment.

I can do it super fast.  Just practice it.  It's easy.

Segment 10 was awesome.  Only mistake that I could find was you had to go into first person to line up before you back walked across the quicksand.  You should be able to just run up, turn around, and backwalk.

Tip for Spirit Temple child:  When you get to the room with the Stalfos and the green skull thing, I find it easy to use a Deku Nut to stun the Stalfos as soon as I enter, then go to the side and use Slingshot on the switch.  If you aim the Deku Nut a little to the right of the Stalfos, sometimes you can nmb both of the enemies.

This helps prevent the Stalfos from hitting you while aiming for the switch.  Cheesy
Hardcore.  I know it's a bit sad that there were those errors with the jump, but it's one of the hardest tricks in the run.  The rest of the reaching child spirit early went really well.  Child spirit itself could be pretty tricky, but I'm sure it will work out, and after that you have easier segments up until Dampe's Gravedigging Tour.
Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Comments:

You can see all the errors in segment 9 easily.

Segment 10:

-You used the slow sidehop method for the gate skip. If you just hold Z (L on Gamecube) while jumping off the ladder and then move back and to the right on the cliff and sidehop, you'll get to the right area quicker.

-The lineup for the quicksand backwalk was a tad slow, but the actual backwalk was fast with the sidehop.

-You were a bit slow throwing the boomerang.

-The planting and Skulltula retrieval were well-done.

It doesn't really matter when I reach that area, I still have to travel the same distance. It might very well be faster though, because of other reasons.

Yeah, still, it's a minor thing.

I know and it's totally inexcusable. I have no idea why I turned around there... Sad

Doin' my best. Smiley

Fluffy Kitten: I know that you can seamwalk to that skulltula, but I have other (faster) plans for it. Wink

So... I did Segment 11...

Everything went smooth except when I was about to climb to the last small key chest, where I got hit. The aiming at the last skulltula was actually very slow, but it was something like a precaution. Sometimes when I aim too fast, I can fire a volley of slingshot bullets without even thinking. I need better self control. Roll Eyes

Phew, I've now done three of the child dungeons. Only two to go (if you count the Bottom of the Well)! Cheesy

fuck you i wont do what you tell me
Just a couple of general questions...

-Are there any N64 glitches that dont work on the GCN version?

-Is Crooked Cartridge allowed?

-How did you know your way through the desert on segment 10? o_O
Speed is the key.

There are some version specific glitches that only work on the 1.0/1.1 N64 version, but those glitches are banned at SDA. Everything that works in the 1.2 N64 version works in the GCN version.

Nope.

Very good. It was a great segment, and the mistakes in it are very minor. Well done Smiley
very good segment 10 and 11 i want to see more =D

Wow, segment 11 was awesome.  Only thing I could find to criticize about it is that I noticed you're a below average aimer (like you said).

I liked the bombchu part alot.

Not really.

I can aim twice as fast, but it's very risky to do in a such intense (also pretty long) segment. It ruined so many segments because I always did hit the target, but I spent too many deku seeds. As you could probably see, I ended the segment with only two shots left. Also, the spirit temple involves more slingshot shooting than any other child dungeon.

The Nabooru dialogue at the start of each segment isn't fun, either. I'd rather be a second slower at aiming than lose the entire segment.
I was really impressed with that last segment (and of course all of them).

Keep it up, this is turning out very good.

Speaking of which, is there any way to cancel the ability to speak to people, but still be able to do other actions?  If so, I wonder if it's possible to walk past Nabooru and go right into the tunnel...

I know that as an adult, if you do the Swordless Link glitch then get on then off Epona using a Deku Nut or the Ocarina you can walk through rocks, trees, and people.  Maybe something similar can be done as a child with the Swordless Link glitch?

Thanks for your comments everyone.

I went ahead and did Segment 12 too. It's nothing fancy, just the trip to Dodongo's Cavern. I swing by the Mask Shop, too.

Now, when I do Dodongo's... I guess I have to pull of Acryte's Bomb Bag early trick. I'll settle for 4 bombchus (I have 5 to spend), because doing it with 3 bombchus seems to be extremely hard.

Any instructions on how to do that stuff with the slingshot/bombchu/sword glitch is appreciated. For example; Where do I activate the sword glitch?

Yes, a cucco riding the ground.
Segment 11 was very nice. I'll watch segment 12.

Segment 12 was also good. I've always wondered, though-how do you quickspin without having your sword out?
Both segments were quite good, but is slingshot ammo going to be a problem?  You could do the target practice minigame in segment 12 if you need an easy refill.  It's been a while since I've looked at the contents of the pots in DC; I hope an accessible one gives you some ammo.

IIRC, Deku Seeds are very scarce in Dodongo's Cavern.
