If I'm not mistaking it's the same with a sword (one thing I'm sure of is that it's not as easy as people say). Either way, getting a stick costs more time than it actually saves so the discussion is pointless.
Groobo is right first of all.... and second it is dam near impossible to do the trick non-TAS even with the deku stick because link slashes with the kokiri sword.... it looks easy in the video because the guy is using the Biggorons sword and megaton hammer which dont slash when you pull them out
Do you need deku stick to do the trick? What about something maybe quicker to get like deku nut, idk. It skips two owls? You sure it doesn't save time? What about not skipping first owl, then getting deku stick or something that's quicker to get after but before the next owl?
Are you sure getting the 40R off chains in segment 4 is fastest? It seems like quite a delay when you could go from market to ToT. What about getting the 20R when you go to dampe's grave, I heard this is very little delay, and then 20R in the castle bridge room when your leaving in segment 5, 6 or 7? If that doesn't work is there not any quick 20R secrets in segment 5 6 or 7?
This statue's one-eyed gaze pierces into your mind

correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the owl drop you right in front of the chains?
Has anyone tried to find a way to get fishing pond without getting the scarecrow? Wouldn't that save a lot of time? I'm thinking something like the way you can get to shadow as child without anything but shield. ie super slide of enemy and warp up somewhere. And what about the superslide downhill that takes you into the ground, maybe swim up to fishing pond after getting in the wall? And there's that spin attack jump/warp trick, acute angle stuff, and you have a hookshot. It seems like there's a lot strange glitches to take advantage of in this game.

You need something that you can pull out and there is no convenient place to get deku sticks that could save time

There are ways, but they require explosives or a bean, both of which require you to go out of the way in this route. Also the water is too low to swim up to the pond, and if your refering to Kazooies warp spin trick, that required crooked cartridge which is illegal
He's referring to Samoht's new Shadow Early trick.
He was referring to both actually and it's a no-go for both. As for the owl skips: the deku stick introduction text is 15s alone, then you have to gather rupees for it which means AT LEAST 20 more seconds, you also loose like 5 extra seconds because of the extra shop text and having to equip the stick and then having to break it. The first owl skip would save 24s, the second and third ones are worth 12,5s each, so the only way for all of this to save time is to skip all three and considering that the input has to be nearly frame perfect for each and every swap and you have to do it like 20 times in a row just to skip the first one, I say it's tas only.
Yeah I can also easily do it like five times, but that's not enough to skip a single owl. And you'd have to skip all three of them to save any time at all, two would mean that you just wasted time.

I can't remember how long the texts are, but when I TASed the rupee route I found that overall getting the stick costed an extra 20 seconds. There is very little chance of seeing the owl skips being implemented in any run given that at best the net gain would be 25 seconds.
Those aren't estimates, I've just timed everything myself. Dunno how you got only 20s as it's almost the stick introduction text alone. One way or another the result is the same: not going to happen.
2) The reason why it doesn't work to get to the fishing pond without the Bean/Scarecrow is that it's too far away to get too with the Air Warp. Also if you Air Warp into the water under the ground and go over to the fishing pond the water doesn't go high enough to reach the fishing pond land
3) It's only used in a SS run to get onto the upper part of Death Mountain, but not to enter Great Fairy without bombs or anything like that since that's slower to do than just blowing up the rock wall.
4) You wouldn't get Hover Boots at all in a TAS, which means you can't pull off the trick to get up to Death Mountain. You only get Hover Boots in Single Segement.
