That's right. I tried every option. Switching from Pal to NTSC only changes the tone of the horrible noise. Sounds like i got a dud. That is a bit disappointing.
well if you're working on something for sda then just pm me your mailing address and i will send you a good one next shipment i get.
No worries. I am just dabbling in speedrunning. Also, i believe i can exchange it for a new one from the seller.
problem is that there are probably at least five different "easycaps," all designed to work only with the bundled drivers (which are invariably shit), and i have no motivation to make norichan work with more than one of them because i can just deploy known good ones to anyone who asks (who is doing something that i care about).
Sounds like a task and a half. Good luck anyways.

Weird, in my case the NTSC composite and s-video quality in norichan are identical as far my eyes can tell.  With the original Easycap drivers s-video was noticeably sharper and cleaner, but it wasn't useable because the colors were overly bright and washed out.  I had composite capture working fine with VirtualDub so I was anxious to get s-video with norichan but alas.

Also I ordered my Easycap from Amazon and it is one with good audio and works with norichan, but I bought it over a year ago so their stock must be different now.

guess i should think about putting in brightness/contrast/tint/saturation controls. trying to get out of doing it because people have a tendency to abuse them.

edit: ok nm, there is no sharpness control on the hardware. just those four. so they must be doing it in software. so you can just capture and then use a sharpness filter for avisynth if you don't like how it looks.

main difference between composite and svideo for ntsc is no rainbows/dots with svideo.

okay got my usb extension 1m and i cant tell any difference. the quality isnt worser and the preview dosent lag more.

you probably knew this already, but i wanted to share it Wink
cool. yeah, they don't hurt for some people, but for some people they break capture entirely. Angry

Oh wow, this is awesome.  I have a need for an inexpensive alternative to my webcam for streaming.  I am using a Mac, and I am sure you need more testers for that.  What device do I need to buy so I can get started with this?

i also used an USB cable extension when i did my capture test and had no problems.
USB cables use digital signals, and for the most part either the signal gets there, or it doesn't, so you don't really have to worry about an extension cable reducing image quality. However, I know for a fact that long USB cables can cause some pretty weird effects with the easycap. I was using a 3 meter cable for a while, and that caused all kinds of weird anomalies and made consistent capture impossible. I'm using a shorter, 2 meter cable now, and I don't have any problems. How long a cable you can use tends to vary on what device you use, as my printer is hooked up to a 20ft usb extension cable, and it works just fine. USB extension cables can also have bad connections that can cause problems, like the short extension cable that came with my easycap.

If you are having problems with your device, it would be a good idea to plug it in directly to reduce the potential points of failure.

unfortunately the only place i know of to get them right now has a minimum order quantity of 5. so if you want one i will probably have to send you one. just pm me your full mailing address and i'll send one out to you asap.

Let the music play!
My easycap has arrived today, so I can begin testing with it. I'll download the lastest version of nori, and see how things go. Initial tests look promising though

EDIT: So, I did a few recordings, in both PAL 50 and PAL 60 format. While the videos look fine, on the preview window in nori things look a little jumpy in PAL 60, and very jumpy in PAL 50. Interesting problem is that xsplit doesn't recognise this easycap as a capture device, even though it picks up the DC 116 I have fine.
i'm trying to figure out a better way of displaying the preview.

my driver isn't compatible with directshow which is why no other program can see the easycap.
ok, turns out i screwed up interlacing (the stride has to be divided by the luma:chroma ratio for interlacing the chroma planes) so i uploaded b7 with the fix. before b7 there will be something like chroma ghosting in the output video so please upgrade asap.

Nate, I know you talked to me earlier about sending me one of the high quality easycaps. I don't think there's any sense in sending it all the way out here, but if you sent a few to the marathon site I'm sure I wouldn't be the only one interested.

okay upgraded to b7 and uhm.. i dont have any issues.

the picture looks more "stable" than i remember it though.

ill get back to you if i have anything to comment on

ah, good idea. i'll actually send them to other mike a week or so early to make sure there are no lol postal delays getting in the way of this good idea.

btw australia is one of the harder-to-reach parts of the world, but i have no problem sending these there, or anywhere else for that matter. if the number i send to mike is not enough then people just need to pm me and i will send them.

thanks.

i actually had an idea just now on how to "fix" the green frame problem so i will be releasing b8 soon with that.

arent you gonna be at the marathon nate, so you wont have to send them?

anyway, i recorded a quick bit of oot and hmm i saw something weird but im not sure if its the game or the recording.
its probably my cartridge/n64 that is bad because it seemed to have a "crooked cartridge" kind of effect (sound going weird and only link dissapearing)... i cant remember if this happened to me while i played (eventhough it was only like 1 min ago)....

ill get back to you on this

i'm not going to the marathon physically this year.

haha, wow. safe to say norichan didn't cause that.

how did you encode that video though? like what settings? i ask because it has chroma ghosting and i supposedly just fixed that with b7.

*see attachment*

also, sad you arent going to the marathon. your metroid prime run last year was really entertaining.

i wonder why it did that. can you send me the original? you can just cut that part out in vdub and direct stream copy.
