I'm interested in doing a Pokemon Sapphire speedrun but I do not have a Gamecube to record gameplay from it. The only other way to get decent quality footage that I can think of is using an emulator (but that's not allowed on these forums). Is there an alternative to the Gameboy Player and is there absolutely no way that emulators can be used?

DS Fat with the video out mod is the only one I can think of.
Waiting hurts my soul...
Pretty sure that's more expensive than buying a Game Cube and Game Boy Player, or at least equivalent.
Professional Shaq Fu Speedrunner
Technically there is Datel Advance Game Port which plugs into the Gamecube Memory Card slot, so it does work with Wii's that have those slots, but its a famiclone in that it while it does play the actual GBA cartridges, it uses software to emulate the hardware and thus isn't allowed on SDA either. Plus I've heard the thing is a piece of crap so take that for what you will.

I am/was recently in your boots NoEsFake, but i buckled up and bought a GameboyPlayer + GC for about ~$230. For us GBA Capturers the solution is never cheap (Oh, and don't forget to buy an easycap or dazzle so you can capture the video from the tv as well)

Well, he asked for alternatives, not cheaper alternatives. There really aren't any cheaper ones that I'm aware of.
I also have a DS Lite and a Wii (if that gives me any more options).

the cheapest way is to get a gamecube with game boy player.  It's the best solution

Unfortunately I don't think the DS Lite supports the video mod, and the DSi (if it does support the mod, but I don't think so) doesn't play GBA games anyway.
I didn't think there would be an alternative (another option would be recording the GBA/DS screen itself but that would have terrible quality). Anyway, thanks for all the quick responses. I'll probably look into finding a Gamecube and Gameboy Player somewhere.
Fucking Weeaboo
Options for GBA recording:

1. Game Boy Player + Gamecube. Definitely the simplest way to record. Probably the most expensive, but depends on if you can get a cube for cheap. Will work with GB/GBC/GBA games.
2. DS Phat + Loopy's mod. Not quite as simple, but probably the best quality. Will only work with GBA, not GB/GBC. You can purchase a combo straight from his site.
3. GBA Direct video output. This device is quite hard to find, but not too hard to install. Quality is the worst of the 3, but the best method for games that use a tilt sensor. Works with GB/GBC/GBA games and has an advantage over #1 for games that use Tilt Sensor. You will need a tri-wing screwdriver to install it, since you remove the back of the GBA. I don't have a link offhand, but probably ebay is the best place to look. I did a video about the device:
Stand: Devil's Call in your Heart
^i have one of those unistalled because the quality wasn't that good and there was no reason to have it set up if i had the GBP set up already. my original intent was to replace the GBP and free up space in my room but video quality won over that.

i still have the device boxed and complete and could sell it for $80 + shipping if interested since i won't be using it.

Game Cube + Game Boy Player, $75 right now, includes shipping: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Nintendo-gamecube-gameboy-player-/111079405591?pt=Video_Games&hash=item19dcd93817, just need a new power cord.
