Hello there,
I've been recording on my Desktop-PC with an Easycap and Amarec for almost a year now without any troubles. A few weeks ago though, the problem I'm gonna describe here started to occur, and I still wasn't able to fix it. I would really appreciate any kind of input towards the matter. Anyways, what happens is:
I start Amarec and get immediately greeted by this error message:
"return:HRESULT=80040217 (FAILED) No Combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection. code: mpFilterGraph-> Connect( mpConnectPinOut, mpConnectPinIn )"

Now, what I know so far is:
1. My capture card is not the problem. It works flawlessy on my Laptop (with the exact same AmaRec setting, just copied the folder to it), I also have a Dazzle that I get the same result with.
2. The problem isn't exclusive to Amarec, it's just the only prog that shows an actual error-message. Virtual Dub just stays black when I try to capture through it, and OBS gives me this http://gyazo.com/b540e079f43c770d11274c5a7e4e510f red screen whenever I add my cap-device. I used to be able to do both of these things without any troubles.

This makes me think that my problem is codec related, that I'm somehow missing a codec needed to actually capture from a USB-card? I obviously went ahead and installed codec-packs, but then again, most of them seem to be laid out towards watching videos, rather than capturing them. Needless to say it didn't fix it. The error-code from the error-message points towards a DirectShow-error on http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/windows/desktop/dd375623%28v=vs.85%29.aspx:

VFW_E_CANNOT_CONNECT
0x80040217
No combination of intermediate filters could be found to make the connection.

So, maybe DirectShow-filters got somehow removed or damaged? I looked for ways to "reset" my DirectShow, but didn't find anything useful. My knowledge about codecs and filters is really limited though, so I'm not really surprised about that. Anyways, that's all I could figure out so far, if anybody knows anything about the problem, feel free to chime in, I would be very thankful for any kind of help Smiley

Thread title:
Installing codec packs is a bad decision in most cases, unless it is CCCP or KCP which list exactly what they install.

Things to try:
1. Open your Easycap in VLC (ctr-c)
2. Switch from NTSC to PAL and back in the driver settings in AmarecTV.
3. If that doesn't fix it, go to the Windows Device Manager, select your Easycap and uninstall it. Select "delete the driver software", then rescan for hardware changes. If it installs the Easycap with an older driver version repeat the process. After that install it like a new device.
Thank you very much, I tried all of your suggestions:
1. The card shows up in VLC, but all i get after selecting it is this: http://i.gyazo.com/75f7ae1896bf82ec7453862a1600a884.png Streaming directly to a file from within VLC creates an empty video-file.
2. Didn't fix it.
3. Went through this exactly as you described, but also deleting the drivers and installing it as a completely new device didn't do the trick. I'm afraid the problem remains Sad
Sorry, I'm out of ideas. You could reset your system to an older System Restore Point, but that's the sledgehammer approach and can lead to even more problems.

Yeah... I think I will just end up reformatting my PC, even though I really wanted to avoid that. Since I can't properly stream from my laptop, there's probably no way around it. Thanks again for the help.

Two things to try after looking at the Jap wiki and the AmaRec blog.

1. Change the video filter from NTSC_M to NTSC_M_J and then back.
2. They really seem to think it's something to do with the audio (PCM mostly). Try setting the audio to different frequencies in the Graph 1 tab (i.e if it's at 48,000 then try 44,100 etc).

This is like last thing I can think of. When I used to use an EzCAP it used to have crappy sound that bugged out. The below fixed it and might help in this situation.

Open up Device Manager then go to Sound, video and game controllers. Locate the USB EMP Audio Device. Right click and go to Update Driver software. Select browse my computer for driver software then let me pick from a list. Click the top option (USB Audio Device) and then Next. It should install and maybe fixes something. If that fails, sorry. Sad
Hey TheThrillness,
the first suggestion I read about before in an older SDA-thread about the problem, unfortunately it didn't help me. I just changed the audio frequency in AmaRec and yeah... it didn't fix it either Sad
Oh well, thanks a lot again for your guys' time. I'm fairly sure I'll be able to capture again after a reformat Smiley
