I think it'd be a good idea to test it a couple of times to see if it works better for you. Always worth a try Smiley

I never have to mash except for in SotN, so I never put the controller down for that. Not really a good idea for that game.

Very clean run dxtr! It actually felt like you went ten seconds faster than mine when watching it. I do not remember seeing any really bad mistakes in your run, either.

I have a question for all the mashers out there. I still use my leg to stabilize the controller when mashing, but I am wondering if I should use my chair or even a small table instead. What do you guys use for controller stabilization these days?

I went from using my legs to the table. and improved my mashing quite much. So i would go for something solid.

And if you can nail the same Demon Statue as i do. Youre going to be the champ when this is all over.

I use my leg since the table my tv is on is rather high.
Is PJ
I use Exo's leg, too.

I am more proficient with leg, but only because I practiced that way for a long time. I have recently adopted the much more efficient (but inconsistent for me) chair technique. Lets put it this way, I had never killed the heart in three jumps before the chair mash. I am going to keep working with the chair mash in my not so serious (pacifist) runs until I can do it consistently.

EDIT:

@dxtr: when I was watching your vid, by 5-2 I was thinking "How the hell is this gonna be a 12:07??" I think it is almost ironic that both you and Arcus had the weirdest little mistakes in your PB's but both of you took care of business when it mattered most, thus the low times. Keep pushin' guys, you two are both so close to cutting the Hotarubi!!

@Arcus: I will probably not be improving my NG I time very soon, I am just too inconsistent at the game. You and dxtr can just pull off such consistent runs all the time, for me the stars need to align just to get what you guys consider a crap time.
For mashing, I'm gonna have to go with on the chair, between the legs.  With my arm straightened out a bit more, I think it feels more natural, and grants more speed and control.

I've also been toying with killing the heart in 3-4 jumps by jumping into the tail and jumping up to attack while briefly invulnerable.  I think I have like a 1/3 success rate on that.

@Sinister: Yea, i know. I was about to reset after A4, but thought "I have to play through this game at least once every 50 reset". Cheesy

He figured it out independently a while ago Exo. I told him that you did that strat too but found it too risky/inconsistent in the end.

Yeh I didn't wanna do it for emu runs since I knew that those wouldn't be my final runs.

True, and you still had bad luck with the heart strat Tongue

For anyone interested I created a thread for NES Ninja Gaiden games in casual speedrunning so please go post your times!

16:01 NG3 low% - it's better than the original weapons run that was on SDA (by Frezy, no less), and it still has two deaths in it

new pb: 12:05

Im guessing that this one puts me in the same corner as Hotarubi. 1.8s improvment over my 12:07.

The most obvious mistakes are:
2-1 jump failure. 0.5s
4-2 bridge. 0.5-1s
5-2d 0.5-1s
5-3 secondary bird boost. 1.5-2s
6-3c missed the cancel-slash and got trolled hard. 2-2.5s

= 6s-ish lost.

And my wallclip on 4-3 look so beautiful.
I watched it dxtr, it's one of the best NG runs I've ever seen, if not the best. You kept your mistakes small and there were not too many of them. You also finished with the perfect boss fights.
You might actually have the console WR for this game now. I'm not sure how low you plan to go, but this 12:05 is definitely worthy of submission.

Very nice, dxtr!

Does anyone know if there are any differences (timing or otherwise) between the NES and Wii VC versions of Ninja Gaiden II?  I'm thinking about switching to the VC version because the Classic Controller's D-pad might be easier on the old left thumb.

Congrats dxtr, you keep getting lower and lower! Please don't stop now when you are so close to the ultimate!

@UA: way to go man! You keep getting better and better in the Ninja Gaiden that everyone is scared of. What is the goal time for a submittable run??
Grats man! You deserve it Wink

I'll have a better idea once I actually manage to clear the game without dying, but if I add up all my best segments I get a 15:10 right now, so probably 15:2x at most.

Also, nice job on NG1, dxtr.
